How much weight can I expect to lose on Mounjaro each month / week?

Hello all!

I am strongly considering starting weightless injections (mounjaro) and I am wondering how much weight I can expect to lose per week / month on the medication?

I of course understand that this will vary enormously from person to person. And for context I have a BMI of about 32 so whilst obese I am on the lower level of being obese (unsure If that makes a difference to speed of loss though).
When on the medication I intend to eat relatively healthily, as I am doing so already, don't think I will be doing much exercise though.

Is it realistic to think that I can move to a healthy BMI within 6 months ish?

Thanks for your help!

Hello!

I started at a BMI of 37.3 and my BMI dropped to 26.3 in six months on Mounjaro. So if you’re anything like me, I’d say so.

My BMI has dropped from 32 to 24 (which is a 24% or 22kg loss). I’ve been on Mounjaro for 5 1/2 months. But - I’ve purposely stayed on a lower dose and kept my calories higher than many people, in order to try to have a slow loss.

Didn't you already post this earlier today?

That is interesting. Thank you for answering! DO you mind me asking you what your starting weight was? And approximately what height are you?

Congratulations on your loss!

@InfoSecInTheCity that's amazing. I'm at around 97kg starting weight and can only dream of getting into the 80s. I just wondered whether the weight comes on afterwards?

thornbury · 03/04/2025 06:23

Average loss seems to be 1-2lbs a week.

LivingLaVidaBabyShower · 03/04/2025 06:27

Second months, starting BMI was 33. Lost around 1,4kg each week so far. My goal is 1kg a week.

I’m still actively losing and using MJ and will keep doing do till I’m at at about 22/23 BMI as want to be in the middle of the healthy range. Now 100% sure what my stopping point will be as this is the lowest my weight has been since I was in primary school so I have no reference point for what I as an adult will look like and when it will be too much. I still have a lot of fat on my belly so using that as a guide right now.

I very much hope the weight won’t come back on, my whole lifestyle has changed significantly, my diet obviously but I also exercise at the gym 6-7 days a week. I am slightly different to most on here using MJ though because I’m prescribed it by the NHS for Diabetes, so my long term plan is to reduce down to the lower doses and as long as my sugars stay in control I might just stay on the lower doses forever (currently on 10mg, increased slowly so was on 5mg for 20 weeks before moving up). MJ has been so effective at controlling my sugars I’ve been able to completely stop using the insulin and metformin so gone from 2 x injections and 4 x pills a day to 1 injection a week, so I’m content to just keep doing this long term.

I was/am a slow loser, lost approx 2lb a week even in early days but after 6 months I’m 2.5 stone down , started at 14 st 7 . I’ve never had the huge losses some people report , but I’m 46 and peri menopausal, plus my eating habits haven’t changed massively, obviously they have changed but haven’t done a 360, still enjoy a glass wine and a takeaway

I only take 2.5mg and average 1-2lbs a week. It has enabled me to eat a healthy diet so I’m reluctant to move up. Losing weight faster on a higher dose would mean I wasn’t able to eat enough and that for me is probably more unhealthy than being morbidly obese was

BrunchBarBandit · 03/04/2025 08:12

I seem to be a very slow loser…. I’ve been on it for 8 months and have only lost 24lbs - so it’s less than 1lb per week. I’ve moved up the doses, had 2 months on 7.5 and 2 months on 12.5 and this week will start 15mg. I’ve not experienced much appetite suppression but I eat less per meal with better/healthier choices as I crave healthy food.

On the plus side I have not experienced many side effects.

I’m ok about the slow loss though because it is a loss. It’s coming off at the rate it was going on over the previous couple of years!

I was BMI 34 when I started and am now 30. I’m expecting to stay on mj for another year

SquashPenguin · 03/04/2025 12:06

My starting bmi was 32. In five months I’ve lost three stone and my bmi is now 24.3! I’ve also not had to go any higher than 7.5mg, but appreciate that is different for everyone.
