How much weight can I realistically lose in 3 months

I have a family wedding in July. I was supposed to have got my arse in gear and lost some
weight.

I am 16 stone, size 18. I go to the gym regularly, am fit, but eat too much.

Is 2 stone realistic? Is 3 out of the question.

There’s a dress I really like but ideally would like to be a size smaller.

2 stone would equate to roughly 2 lb per week, so any more than that, you will probably struggle with.

Saying that, a lot of people lose a lot of water weight right at the start of a diet, so you may drop half a stone in the first couple of weeks.

3 months is a long time, so try to make lifestyle changes that you can keep up long term. Make a plan, hide/bin all the junk in your cupboards and fill the fridge full of veg, salad, lean proteins and high fibre foods.

Good luck!

i’ve recently dropped 39lbs in 3 months. Good luck!

HappySheldon · 23/03/2025 14:43

OP- i am going on a family holiday in August and I have a very critical parent. I am also keen to lose weight. 1 stone would be good, but my dream is say 2 stone.

If you want company on your quest I would be up for it. Smile I am a former bulimic though so want to do it safely in a way that does not trigger a relapse.

@unicornsaremagical 39 lbs is amazing- do you mind saying how?

unicornsaremagical · 23/03/2025 14:46

@HappySheldon i bought a walking pad, ab roller and stepper. i do 75 mins a day and cut calories to 1000. I still have another stone to lose though.

outofofficeagain · 23/03/2025 14:56

@unicornsaremagicalthat is fantastic. 1000 calories a day sounds hard!

Op, not for everyone I no that, but I've lost 3 stone in just over 3 months on munjaro xx

If you low carb you could realistically lose 5lbs a week, maybe 3 a week once you have lost some

Noodlesnotstrudels · 23/03/2025 15:20

I lost 12kg in 12weeks in 2023 to get my BMI below the qualifying level for fertility treatment. I did Fast 800 (although I didn't stick religiously to 800kcal - i probably averaged 1000-1200). It was hard at first but once in the swing of things, it worked quite well. The app / website lets you choose recipes and creates shopping lists so straightforward that way. Basically low carb will get you most of the way without buying the app access.

HappySheldon · 23/03/2025 15:20

Do you have a plan @outofofficeagain ?

I am going to the gym twice a week - I cant manage more than that but I sort of think it's better than nothing. I have arthritis in my spine and hips so my gym work is very gentle.

I need to drink less alcohol though- I am under alot of stress right now and have been using it to relax and sleep- quite unhealthy. I do eat well I think-but my portions are way too large.

HappySheldon · 23/03/2025 15:21

x-post @Noodlesnotstrudels !

outofofficeagain · 23/03/2025 15:29

Sugar is my main issue and I think low carb is the only way to go. I can’t do moderation so easier to cut out entirely.

i’m hoping to get back up to running 5k. If I can do that 3 times a week I think that will help. I enjoy swimming but it makes me hungry!

Since mid January I’ve lost 1.5 stone. Starting weight was slightly under yours so I think it’s definitely doable. Just calorie counting and gym for me, I love carbs so couldn’t cut them completely!

I could have written this post. I was invited on Thursday to a very and I mean very swanky party in June. I went on the scales and nearly died. So I am owning this and it’s day 3. I have 2 and a half months. I will follow this post to stay motivated. Good luck

I've lost 13kg (that's about 2 stone I think?) in 12 weeks on Wegovy.

You need to do strength training when you lose weight this quickly or you're going to lose muscle as well as fat. Eat plenty of protein and drink loads of water.

BigDahliaFan · 24/03/2025 06:55

Eat more protein, walk for an hour briskly every day. Cut the treats right down. Weigh portions. That’s the theory!

HappySheldon · 24/03/2025 09:28

Morning!

I have been trying to think about how I ate when I was at my best weight of 10 and a half stone. That's the upper end of my BMI for my height but was the weight I seemed to be able to maintain without real deprivation. 2 stone ago.

I used to eat very small portions but about 5 small meals a day. I am gluten free and detest bread anyway so that's generally fine.

So I plan to have very small portions and to halve alcohol intake with a view to cutting out altogether.

I'll weigh in on Friday but as of today I am 12 stone 8. I am only 5 foot though and a size 16-18. I am apple shaped and have what used to be called 'strong bones'. So 10 and a half stone on someone my height might be large for others but on me is more or less right.

So far I have eaten 3 GF oatcakes with sliced tomato and dried herbs on them. I like the idea of relatively low-carbing and i love poached fish / grilled meats with salads etc.

Good luck everyone!
