Need to lose at least a stone, maybe realistically a stone and half
but be very happy with a stone
want to do this within 3 months

so I need to plan ahead
plan bike ride 3 times this week and power walk the other two

meals
mushroom soup
roast chicken all the veg and cooked of roasts
ham, egg and chips
2 sausage, ok maybe three🧐jacket potatoe, beans
chicken and sweetcorn soup

no sugar cokes
sometimes I have two a day atm

little snack treat for desert
like a chocolate covered marshmallow
rather than say a cornetto

needs badly needed for dessert ideas

more fruit and veg

lunch ideas badly needed too
so far all I can think of is scrambled eggs
soup
ryvita Philadelphia light

not sure if I should follow slimming world or calorie count ?
ot both ?

also want to grow my nails back out
paint my toenails
shave
just try and glow up somehow
hair only coloured a week ago
it should probably book in

just don’t know how to get and keep the motivation and not think fuck it ?

so you think I can lose a stone in 3 months ? Is it doable ?

Oh also I want something to excercise at home while I watch tv, so I’m thinking either mini treadmill
the fold away kind

or one of those step platforms and just step on and off it

what do you think would be more effective for weight loss ?

I did think I could also swing arms and carry dumbbells while doing it and maybe add leg weights ?

Ditch the desserts. If you really need something have a square of dark chocolate or a piece of fruit. Or some yogurt.

Don't have Ryvita. It's basically cardboard. Eat things that give you pleasure - just not full of sugar.

I hear you but I feel lien I need a little dessert

I mean my starting point is pretty dismal in terms of ready meals and sodas and junk

Also is ryvita and light Philadelphia not healthy ? Sometimes things are so misleading

TheDopamineKid · 09/03/2025 23:32

I don't know if it's healthy but it's basically grim. You won't stick to losing weight if it's not enjoyable.

You don't need a dessert. Have a plum!

Exercise is great for fitness and health - but doesn't contribute much to weight loss.
Put your energy in to planning and prepping your food instead.
What's your strategy supposed to be?
Reduced calories/ intermittent fasting/ high protein-low carb??? Decide that first, then start looking up healthy food and recipes. Try and avoid Ultra Processed Foods.
I recommend Fast 800- you can get the books from the public library.

MissyPants · 09/03/2025 23:41

Sorry but I don't think you have done your research. You aren't going to loose weight any time fast eating 3 sausages in one serving and having Philadelphia cheese. All of these things are high in fat content. You're not thinking about it all properly. The meal suggestions are poor.
You need calorie smart meals. Plenty of nice tasty food you can have.
Also I wouldn't invest in an exercise bike/treadmill to use whilst watching tv, the thought is good but it won't last and the novelty will wear off, and you will do what most people do: buy it with good intentions, use it maybe twice, it will gather dust and you will probably sell it. You need a realistic plan, something not too out of the ordinary for you.

Yes I think I’ve thought I can excercise it off in the past and I’ve realised no way you can, today I did a 10 mile bike ride but that’s like 150 calories
maybe 200 at the most

I was planning on doing a bit of all
so fast and eat between 12.30 to what time ? Maybe 8pm ?
8.30 ? that gives a 16 free window I think

low carb

more fruit and veg

less ready meals
no soda

I didn’t do well with 800 calories a day when I did that couple of years ago
but I don’t think I did it properly

ok I’ll only have two sausages then

also I’m all ears and I’m open to ideas

and if I get one of them platform things say 18 quid on amazon
im sure I can do an hour a day steeping in and off
surely that’s gotta do something

I like ice skating and cycling
I like swimming too but struggle with that due to some health reasons
but I enjoy it

I did screen shot the recipe I found on here for 800 Chinese chicken drum sticks that sound good

OP posts:
Kittenswhiskers · 10/03/2025 00:21

are sesame seeds any good ? As o thought bet they’d be nice sprinkled over the chicken drum sticks

I’ve also reactivated my slimming world membership so I can scan things and see the syns

TheDopamineKid · 10/03/2025 07:48

I have done well with low carb in the past. I found that was all I needed. If I wanted to eat I went for low carb and the weight kept dropping. I made sure I had lots of veg, eggs and cheese and I wasn't tempted to eat sugary stuff then.

AsIUnderstandIt · 10/03/2025 08:08

You need a clearer strategy.

If you are going low carb/ keto, then most sausages are out- they are packed with rusk/ grain/ breadcrumb type filler.
Fruit is out, and lots of veg - like carrots and peas are out. But higher fat foods are in! avocado, certain nuts, oily fish, butter, cheese, avocado, cream (but not milk). (Along with eggs, chicken, other plain meat/ fish/ seafood.)

Though if you are purely calorie counting, most of these higher fat foods are high in calories, so not the best choices.

You need to do your research, choose an approach and stick with it. One diet or another but you can't pick the nicest/ easiest parts / the best foods of 2 different diets.

On the Fast 800, the 800 calories of low carb/ high protein/ good fats and 8 hour eating window is very extreme. It's supposed to be for a big initial weight loss- a kind of jump start and a way to right your blood sugar/ insulin reactions. Then you can move to, say, 1200 calories but your weightloss will obviously be slower, but would still probably get you to your goal on time, if you followed it properly.

Doggymummar · 10/03/2025 08:15

Choose one regime and stick to it. You are ducking and diving all over. Sounds like slimming world is your choice as you are counting syns. Get the books and stick tomit. 3 litres water a day. Eat in a deficit if about 500 cals per day for a pound a week loss and don't make drastic changes with your excercise as you will get inflamed and retain water becoming temporary heavier which can be disheartening. Good luck and have fun.

Ilovelowry · 10/03/2025 08:16

Hi OP. Never eat your exercise calories back. Ever.

User5274959 · 10/03/2025 08:19

A stone to lose isn't much OP. If I were you I'd ditch the dieting mentality, it often leads to people gaining more back!

Yes maybe your onto something here, it’s like you can diet your way into being overweight 🧐🧐 and start thinking about food so much

agree m taking all sorts of advice form everywhere thi
nuti eas just going to follow one thing it’s would have to be calorie counting as be the easiest to stick to long term and it also doenst really restrict anything totally

I’m about to weigh myself in ten mins to see my starting point

OP posts:
Kittenswhiskers · 10/03/2025 09:04

I gained a stone in lockdown
was drinking more and eatting more and not exercising as much as usual

i knew I was gaining but I thought once life goes back to normal
ill go back to normal
and it’s been a bit up and down since then really
i did lose the weight going to the gym and following slimming world
and was back to normal

then I got a bad illness and lost a stone and half and was only just in the healthy weight but bordering on the underweight end
then that health issue improved
then slowly slowly it’s crept back up to where I was after lockdown it’s like I’ve reset my base weight by getting a stone over weight in the first place
if I could go back in time I’d avoid getting overweight during lockdown as it seems to have shifted something in me, but guess I was just trying to get by best I could at that time

also I now don’t drink alcohol at all due to health reasons but I’ve been off that over a year maybe two years

To be honest I think you’re setting yourself up for failure by trying to change too much OP. You’re motivated to put lots of effort and preparation in now, but what will do you when your motivation ends? I think start with small changes that don’t take much effort to maintain and then slowly start to change other things.

Kittenswhiskers · 10/03/2025 09:10

What small changes do you think I should start with then ?
im not even sure how motivated I actually am
other then i don’t want to be a stone over weight in the summer

a big part of me thinks come on, just accept yourself the way you are

OP posts:
Kittenswhiskers · 10/03/2025 09:10

But then I also think for health reasons I don’t want to be a stone overweight

OP posts:
Kittenswhiskers · 10/03/2025 09:11

And getting a stone off would improve my face

It sounds like you have a sweet tooth. Many on here wil say you need no deserts but while some can cope that way, if you are a sweet tooth type person, you are setting yourself up to fail by having no sweet things.

Rather than chocolate covered marshmallows (which granted are lovely), can you get some of the Nordic thick yoghurt that’s naturally fat free (like the skyr stuff). It’s quite high in protein, put your berries or fruit of choice on it to give you the sugar hit.

feels more “pudding” than just fruit.

Other tip, clean your teeth after dinner. Honestly kills my drive for something else to eat. (I found this accidentally when the dcs were younger and were starting to clean their own teeth, I did mine at the same time to give them a guide of how long to brush for etc suddenly found no desire to snack in the evening.)

FancyBiscuitsLevel · 10/03/2025 09:28

I would also suggest you cut out the fizzy drinks completely. I read somewhere that the sugar free stuff is bad for dieting because your body tastes the fake sugar in your mouth and “get ready” for processing a load of sugar. When that doesn’t arrive, you start craving the “missed” sugar, and are more likely to feel hungry/eat more than if you’d just had a glass of water.
