Need to lose at least a stone, maybe realistically a stone and half
but be very happy with a stone
want to do this within 3 months

so I need to plan ahead
plan bike ride 3 times this week and power walk the other two

meals
mushroom soup
roast chicken all the veg and cooked of roasts
ham, egg and chips
2 sausage, ok maybe three🧐jacket potatoe, beans
chicken and sweetcorn soup

no sugar cokes
sometimes I have two a day atm

little snack treat for desert
like a chocolate covered marshmallow
rather than say a cornetto

needs badly needed for dessert ideas

more fruit and veg

lunch ideas badly needed too
so far all I can think of is scrambled eggs
soup
ryvita Philadelphia light

not sure if I should follow slimming world or calorie count ?
ot both ?

also want to grow my nails back out
paint my toenails
shave
just try and glow up somehow
hair only coloured a week ago
it should probably book in

just don’t know how to get and keep the motivation and not think fuck it ?

so you think I can lose a stone in 3 months ? Is it doable ?

I struggle with diets as soon as I'm on a 'diet' i want to eat shit. Program yourself into thinking making healthy lifestyle changes instead. For me this was fasting I only eat between 12.30 and 7.30 I have a sandwich then a meal at dinner time spag bol etc but try have a 'smaller plate' low fat yoghurts with high protein for a pudding healthy low fat snacks but if I really crave il choose a 98 cal curly wurly for pudding instead of a cheesecakes 360 cals plus. I also go the gym 3 times a week i do 20 min exercise bike 15 min cross trainer and walk the dogs as much as possible 30 mins. Also a weights every other day there's lots of free workouts on you tube. I did this by adding one more thing per week. It may work for u or not it did for me as I wasn't calories counting but I eat 1200 or less and dont feel hungry. If I was craving sugar I had a cup of tea with one sugar. Plus drink lots of water ! Good luck op

Hi OP, you sound similar to me. I have always been around 60-63kg but following a very stressful couple of years I lost weight, but then piled it back on and got up to 70kg. I am 5 foot 6 btw. I decided to lose the weight from January. I have lost 4kg (9ish pounds?) so far, and I feel like I’ve fought for every gram! I also love full sugar coke 😥

This is what I’ve done:

  • calorie count. I would say you can eat 3 sausages as long as you maintain a deficit.
  • Really cut down on sugar, this helps with cravings eventually. So cut right down on coke and white bread.
  • However, I do still eat chocolate every day (because I love it). But only a small amount.
  • Drink loads of water/ black tea.
  • I am really careful about breakfast and lunch, and really plan these. I have bran flakes with yoghurt and chia seeds for breakfast, or soda bread made with porridge and some egg whites (breakfast about 200 calories). For lunch I aim for about 400 calories.
  • For dinner, I eat relatively normally but try to eat fewer carbs. So more protein, less carbs.
  • If starving between meals I have a piece of fruit.
  • If I have a big meal, e.g. we had friends visiting and had a takeaway - I eat less during the day and then the day after I don’t eat until lunchtime.
  • Cut out booze for all of Jan but having a bit at the weekends now.
  • I also run three times a week. I think this does help but it’s also hard to make sure you’re fueling enough for runs - sometimes I get suddenly very tired and I’m sure it’s because I haven’t eaten enough. So I do eat more on days I run.
  • Up fibre intake, I find that when I cut calories my digestion likes to grind to a halt. So I was taking fybogel for the first 6 weeks or so but don’t seem to need it now.
Keepthecat · 10/03/2025 10:11

I am losing about 1lb a week using the free NHS Weight Loss app and the Hairy Bikers' Hairy Dieters books.
I think you will struggle to lose weight eating chips, potatoes and anything fried. I am coming up to the two stone mark and losing it gradually means no floppy skin. I joined a local gym and just do a gentle workout to keep everything working and reasonably toned.

Nothing startling, but for the price of some secondhand books and rethinking what I eat, it's working for me. We can get wholemeal and multigrain bread at 60 calories a slice, that really helps. Its something I can keep doing too to maintain my weight once its down😊, not a sprint but a marathon.
Wishing you all the best with your weight loss!

I am 5 foot 6 (168cm). I was aiming for 1200 a day but I was too hungry so probably closer to 1400-1600 now. I’m not counting as strictly as I was at the beginning, as I say I am strict on breakfast and lunch and then just have a sensible dinner. You can look up calculators to see how much you can eat to still lose a certain amount, I think it’s called TDEE calculator. I know that my average daily deficit is about 500 calories from the amount I’ve lost so far. I am in a healthy BMI now but want to get down to around 60kg, I want to lose some more weight from my face and get back into all my clothes!

How many should you be eatting a day
i Googled what you said and worked out and it said to eat 1600 kcal a day to lose 1lb a week

so today so far, I’ve only eaten 1082
but I might have a banana later and that will be 100 calories

so I’ve had, and I know it’s not great and there’s room for improvement
which I’m all ears for suggestions, but
I’ve had

weetabix
100ml milk
crisps
pineapple juice 100ml

Albert Bartlett fries 100g
2 eggs
2 and half slices of ham
mushrooms
peas
sweetcorn

mellow and marsh raspberry bar

maybe a banana later

food window 1pm till well depends if I have a banana

This is unlikely to work OP. Yes you will lose weight in a calorie deficit but it is more difficult to stick to your TDEE if you are eating crisps, fries, pineapple juice and a marshmallow bar in a single day. Your body will process all the sugar and want some more when you crash.

If you want to progress from here, think about swapping out one of those things for fruit or a crunchy veg, or a sparkling water, herbal tea etc.

I've lost 1.5kg a week for the past month. Lots and lots of veg cooked with a lot of flavour, black coffee, apples, healthy protein.

Kittenswhiskers · 11/03/2025 01:20

I did have crisp sometimes if I fancy them I don't limit my self but I choose healthier and the more I do it the more I choose less. I think about food still and would still have a curry or takeaway everyday if I could but tbh im sick of being miserable stuck in the same loop of diet eating crap diet loosing puttin more back onn so now I changed to being more healthy and touch wood it's working x good luck !

SleepDeprivedButAlive · 11/03/2025 15:34

If I have ever seen anyone in my life more in need of weighing everything and calorie counting it's you.

You won't stick to this because it's too restrictive. You can't be without dessert. So don't.

Weigh your food. Calorie count every morsel that goes into your mouth. You can eat the sweets as long as the maths works out.

Sunshineandgrapefruit · 11/03/2025 18:18

You need to look more at what food you are eating rather than the calories. So for example eat full fat rather than 'lighter' versions which are often not as healthy. Semi skimmed milk is fine. If you are having sugar then own it. Don't eat diet versions. Just have a small portion of the real stuff. Cook from scratch. Don't eat UPF'S. Eat a wide variety of fruit and veg. Eat square meals so don't avoid fats and carbs ( just make sure your food ratios are right). Portion control. Weigh stuff so you don't over eat. If you do this the weight will drop off.

Kittenswhiskers · 11/03/2025 23:21

Ok bit if a better day today
40g weetabix
100ml semi skimmed milk
monster munch

roast chicken
one potatoe roasted, sprayed with oil then air fried
sweetcorn cob half
carrots Brussels broccoli
gravy Bisto chicken

marshmallow bar

activia strawberry yogurt

3 hour bike ride and
8k steps
that’s only when I’ve been out
doenst count steps inside

You might be alright if you're just counting calories, but nutrition-wise, you're eating a lot of crap.
The soup sounds good but the rest?
Yoghurt and granola- if the yoghurt is full fat unsweetened plain greek yoghurt- with a small amount of granola.... maybe ok. But granola is really just sugary carbs, and if the yoghurt is sweetened too?? Then, not a great choice.

Similarly the lite yoghurt. Not a great choice nutrition wise. Prob full of emulsifiers and sweeteners.

Garlic bread- again mainly white carbs. If supermarket bought, may be full of crap oils and additives. If you made up some grass-fed butter with chopped garlic, then that would be better.

Chocolate buttons and marshmallow on top of that. It's very, very high sugar, high carb. There's little protein or fibre overall- the chicken and sweetcorn being good sources.

OP posts:
Rozbos · 13/03/2025 13:32

I think a previous poster has mentioned it but if you track accurately you can eat what you want in moderation.

I personally use my fitness pal and track everything. You need to weight everything that goes into your mouth but it really highlights the things you may think are ok and really aren’t! Use a tdee calculator and work out how many calories you should be eating to lose say 1-2lbs/week and eat to those calories.

TheLadyIsAVamp · 13/03/2025 13:41

You're very unlikely to be prescribed the injections as you need to have a BMI over 30 or over 27 with at least one weight-related comorbidity. Which app are you using to count your calories? Are you remembering to count oil when cooking? You don't need huge drastic changes just switch to lower calorie options eg you mention sausages, switch to something like Heck chicken sausages which are 66 calories for 2 grilled chipolatas. I often just have soup for lunch, I go for one with beans/lentils etc and don't have bread with it. My favourite shop bought one if I'm feeling lazy is an Asda Mexican bean one which is 180 cal for the whole can, if I feel I want something else with it I'll have a couple of rice cakes which are 30 calories each and maybe some fruit.
As someone mentioned earlier make sure you weigh absolutely everything, when I started calorie counting I was so shocked at how many were in things and how big my portions actually were.
