Dieting for health a whole mentality shift

Hi everyone, first of all to be completely open I am a male and found mumsnet by looking for weightloss advice online and found this forum in the process. Thanks to everyone who posts as ideas and hearing about others success and struggles too have helped me. So my reason for posting I hope might help one or 2 people aswell. Over the years I've tried to diet to look thinner and failed quickly everytime even after doing well for a few weeks or months. Even though I'm not hugely overweight I have been overweight for about 20 years. A few months back after getting unexplained abdominal pains I had a number of scans and tests and without going into personal details the damage I've done to myself is by being overweight and eating too much processed rubbish for most my adult life.
So the good news is hopefuly but not guarenteed I can reverse a good amount of the damage. This has lead me to change my lifestyle for my health and future rather than looking better. When looked at it this way it so much easier. The doc had an honest chat with me about what fat does to our organs and what processed food does to them when the body tries to deal with it. I feel so much better already and am loosing weight fast. I really believe the key to weight loss for me atleast is focusing on health rather than appearance. It stunned me what the doctor told me about processed foods and I would encourage anyone struggling to stick to a diet to maybe look at it that way. Good luck to everyone else trying to do this!

I can relate to you mate in so many ways, I was in a very similar situation, 8 months ago I started SW but very quickly (within a month) just ignored the SW book and simply started eating healthy. All though it’s focused on a high protein low carb diet I don’t class myself as dieting I’m just eating fresh unprocessed food. Best advice I can give anyone is eat ‘Straight out the ground, straight of the animal, straight of the tree’.
