Hi all!

Miserable unable to shift my weight 😔

3 kids from 2020-2024 (2 sections) so I have a lot of weight/over hang on tummy) arms and legs are super slim so I cover my body with oversized jumpers! All friends and family are like you're not big!! Bla bla but they don't know what's hiding under the jumpers 🤣

I also have hypothyroidism which makes it a little harder for me to lose weight (despite being on medication)

Totally know everyone is different and some can lose weight easier than others etc and carry weight in different areas, however, just curious... which lifestyle change worked best for you to finally lose weight and feel good?

My usual attitude is to go hard (exercise wise) that I burn myself out and end up giving up after a month or so despite seeing results! So frustrating. However, food wise is so so hard as I have a humongous sweet tooth.

Would love to know which lifestyle change finally helped you to shift weight! Any tips to keeping motivated and not giving up so soon.

Thanks !!

Hi, I’ve lost over 30kg after I got to my biggest weight in years following an operation.

I got more active but not over doing it. Got a smartwatch, set myself some goals. Enjoyed walking. Stopped drinking alcohol. I have stuck to calorie counting for over 2 years I quite like it. I’m quite close to my goal now so I still calorie count and make considered decisions about what I am going to eat. I don’t really crave sugary foods anymore and processed foods can taste a bit shit tbh, you start to be able to taste the chemicals or they just taste sweet but have no flavour. I treated myself to some sugar on my fresh strawberries today and it was lovely and I enjoyed it but didn’t need to keep eating afterwards. It’s not the sugar that’s the problem on its own. I have to avoid UPF’s as they are almost impossible to stop eating. I don’t eat junk food or take outs or anything like that. I haven’t eaten a Mcdonalds or a dominos in 2 years and I don’t miss them. If I do have something off plan I will have only half of it (like a cake, I will eat half or a small portion). Greasy, chemically food is no longer as appealing once you enjoy more whole foods.

My motivation was my health. I am not getting younger and I took my health for granted for too long. I think I could have avoided surgery had I lost weight maybe, as my condition got worse as I gained weight and was hormone related. I am motivated by my health not necessarily what I look like visually. I am in my 40’s so I will not have a models body, I just want to feel good and confident. I may always have a small over hang but I am fitter and healthier than in my 30’s (apart from my current bought of chronic constipation!)

good luck, you just need to find a reason why you want to do it, my advice is do not just do it for a holiday this year. That’s not long term

Hey thanks for commenting!

Firstly what a fab achievement!!! Did it ever feel impossible to achieve at first? I need to try and focus on small goals then racing ahead for a big result !

That's so great saying that you did it for your health as opposed to the focus mainly being weight/appearance related! I'm trying my best to keep telling myself it's for my kids, so they can play with a fitter/healthier mummy and also look up to me too! My husband is so healthy and into fitness I don't want them to see me as the unhealthy one!

I totally agree with the sugary processed foods tasting awful after a while once you've cut them out. Before kids, I cut out chocolate and then when I had the first cube of chocolate a month later it tasted so oily and gross!

I have just downloaded my fitness pal and will try again with calorie counting! I found it hard last time and gave up (but I usually give up 🫠) really need to not make it such a big deal and add to it rather than doom scrolling on social media!

I'm starting up couch to 5k next week, as I did it after having my second and loved it but then quickly fell pregnant with my third and stopped. Hope I find the passion in it again.
