I’ve had another day with a really good start and then it all went downhill, this pattern is starting to be a real problem.

@Wishihadanalgorithm i’m so sorry to hear you’re not well, are you feeling any better yet? I hope you recover very soon.

@thenewaveragebear1983 you are still doing so well, despite your work difficulties. I’ve no idea how some people keep their jobs. Many years ago at the end of a party when everybody was relaxing and chatting everyone was saying how good they were at their jobs (me included). There were a lot of people in that group and I thought surely all of them can’t be good at their jobs and it made me realise that some people just assume they’re good at it when they’re not. Do be careful though if you’re stressed and overworked because that’s how I ended up with ME. If I’d known then what I know now, I wouldn’t have worked myself into the ground so do listen to me please.

Wishihadanalgorithm · 28/11/2025 07:10

Hello all. Thanks for asking after me. The vile stomach bug seems to have disappeared and I’m back at work (mock exam season - so need to be there if I can) though strangely not at all hungry and even when I am, and do eat, I’m full after a couple of mouthfuls.

I’m not recommending this as a diet plan but it’s made me realise how I don’t need as much food to function.

How is everyone’s weekend plans looking? I’ve got lunch at my sister’s on Sunday so need to navigate that as there will be a lovely roast and then a tonne of chocolate/cake/pud etc.

Happy Friday all!

TalkToTheHand123 · 28/11/2025 13:14

Love to all. Weighed this morning and down the half a stone.
Intended to post the above yesterday. Since then I've probably put it back on but it was due to visiting a bakery I'd w anted to visit for years, so won't be a regular thing.
I've made some soup so going to try use this to help lose weight also.
A bit fed up but going to keep trying.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 28/11/2025 17:22

Glad you feel better @Wishihadanalgorithm

@TalkToTheHand123you may find you don’t regain as much as you think, if you’ve lost half a stone you can’t really regain that in one bakery trip even if the scales say you can

@poorpaws thank you, I do really try to not get burned out and I am a lot more careful than I used to be. It’s hard at work if your job is basically to be the person who sorts out all the crap, or if you’re the person with the integrity to deal with things you come across and not hide them or pass them. I end up dealing with a lot of problem solving and my job is quite brain intensive with lots of data. I always keep my weekends sacred though and never work late.

it was my Christmas do today, it’s a funny old affair, lots of teams who barely know each other except for where we meet on teams and a lot of my core team weren’t there. Chinese buffet and cheap wine, and I just cannot start on shots and gin and tonics at 1.30 in the afternoon, so I had a bit of food and a couple of glasses of wine. Grabbed a hot chocolate for the train home. Now I’m back (it’s still not half five!) and watching old eps of the biggest loser with my doggo, contemplating setting up the Christmas tree.🎄 rock and roll 🤘

The two homemade chicken baguettes have floored floored me tonight. The homemade chicken curry with veg will have to wait until tomorrow to be consumed. I need to learn to buy less quick perishable foods.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 29/11/2025 08:49

Morning all, a grey wet day here so I am putting my Christmas decorations up, I have dentist appointment this afternoon as well. I’ve just sat and written in my journal as I have 3 weeks now til I break up from work, I guess it could go either way really but actually I have no real reason to stop trying just yet, I have one Christmas do next week but it’s a weekday curry with the gym and I will just have a tomatoey balti or similar (and they don’t do gf. Naans so that solves that!) - but otherwise I have no plans that could derail me. So I’m planning a last push for December and I WILL be under 11 stone by 19th December!

today I’m making some sweet potato, butternut and spinach curry to portion out for lunches this week, I need something easy and tasty to grab and I do like it when I don’t have to think about what I’m going to have.

Hi all. Ate a tub of grapes, drinking green tea. Have fruit and soup for later. Tummy size would give Mary Clause a run for her money at the moment so trying to use this to keep me motivated.

poorpaws · 29/11/2025 16:45

It is not going too well here, I ate two mince pies for lunch!

I had to wait in all day today for two parcels so the dogs haven’t been out and I haven’t got any exercise done. I had a bit of a mad day spending yesterday on a new electric toothbrush, a Dyson cordless (the brush head on mine has hardly got any brushes and it needs a new battery so it was as cheap to get a new machine, well nearly) and an iPhone (the delete key on mine hardly works and the voice button keeps sticking).

I’m really struggling with this run up to Christmas, but I’m getting very ready for the New Year. I’ve ordered a cheap Temu diet journal as I work better with pen and paper than apps. I’m very visual and if I see it written down that I’m losing weight it really helps me gather momentum. My Fitbit watch stopped working ages ago so I’m not sure about tracking steps next year but I’m hoping to do longer dog walks so that I get more exercise.

I hope you’re all doing well.

TalkToTheHand123 · 29/11/2025 23:13

Aww I do love a mince pie. I've spend the last few hours battling the desire for a takeaway due to a third party buying one tonight. I thought she was going to share and would have had some but then she had her hands all over it, so it put me off when she later offered. I was then going to order a one all for myself but managed to stop myself. Craving subsiding a bit now fortunately.
I'm secretely competing with her in my mind to help me lose weight. 😉

TalkToTheHand123 · 30/11/2025 09:02

Feeling quite pleased with myself since managing to avoid takeaway last night. Can't wait to get home and get stuck into my chicken curry with veg. Maybe having something like this to look forward to can help me keep on track when out and about. Need to stock up on Green tea as this helps suppress cravings a little. I'll be making some more soup later.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 30/11/2025 20:04

Good evening all. I’ve been so tired and so hungry today, one problem with being gluten free is that there just isn’t always something to grab. I ended up eating a portion of my veg curry from the freezer and a bag of cheese and onion crisps, then we had a roast dinner this evening. However, I also found I ate a lot of ‘bits’- a bit of yoghurt, some mango, an apple. Etc. and these bits all add up I guess although I have had a really calorie heavy weekend anyway even without that.

anyway, enough November moans! It’s December tomorrow and I am going to really try hard for the last few weeks of the year, until I break up for Xmas on 19th. The biggest thing for me is planning my meals and not letting myself get too hungry, and making sure I drink enough. My goal is 4pints of water each day.

I’ve loosely planned my workouts and runs this week but they are weather dependent as I am not risking catching any cold/flu now. They knock me out for weeks. My meals are also planned- leftover roast tomorrow, sausages Tuesday, baked potatoes Weds and I have my 250 cal curry pots for lunches. So no excuses really. And there’s no sweets or rubbish in the house either.

Another gain for me this morning, mostly due to an absolute ton of sugar after my chocolate Home Bargains haul.
sadly I am now just three quarters of a pound from my heaviest weight ever which was three years ago.

i had a rare day out with DD yesterday, we went to a local craft fayre which wasn’t brilliant (I often think people are deluded about their crafting skills). We had a MacDonalds for lunch, which was the best one I’ve ever had, everything freshly cooked and really hot, then we just wandered around a few shops which I very rarely go into, The Range, Dunelm etc.

ive decided to try a low sugar practice for my no sugar new year for the next three weeks. I’ve still got chocolate in the cupboard but I don’t want to pass my heaviest weight ever just before Christmas so I’m going to be very cautious for the next three weeks. I’m sure I should be able to lose 3 lbs which is a drop in the diet ocean but a start.

im really getting into the zone for new year though. I keep imagining a rocky start, then really going for it (despite the family moving in for a month). I also keep fast forwarding to Easter (beginning of April this year) and feeling so much slimmer and healthier. I usually keep my diet plans quiet but this time I’m telling people which will make me want to keep going, and definitely not fail because I will feel awful if I do when I have to admit it to people.

December today so I hope you have a good one.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 01/12/2025 20:45

i had a bit of a manic day today, just a busy one at work. No time for a run today plus it’s wet, cold and blustery out there so I didn’t force myself. I ate really well though, I had 2 boiled eggs, a portion of my lentil veg curry and a portion of leftover chicken roast. A few bits of fruit and a rhubarb yoghurt 😋 I could have happily eaten a lot of chocolate though @poorpaws but my strategy is to have absolutely nothing in the house at all to tempt me. I went to Aldi to buy coffee beans and ended up in something of a minor panic because I have not bought anything at all yet for Christmas food. However, I know I can get what I need and to be honest I am happy at the moment not to have temptation around.

tomorrow I absolutely must stop for a proper lunch break, I’m going to bake some potatoes and have tuna jacket, then for dinner we have sausages.

I’ve had a good day too, no chocolate has passed my lips. It’s been incredibly bad weather today, torrential rain all day so we didn’t get out. I think I’ve said before on here that I am vile when it’s raining constantly and DP just sits around, annoying me.

instead of being annoyed, we got busy and moved all of the Christmas stuff out of the attic and started putting some of it up. I also went through most of the house with my new vacuum cleaner and oh my goodness you would not believe what was in the canister and how many times I had to empty it.

i’m starting to get hungry now, so I’m going to have an apple instead of my usual multiple chocolate bars.

Tomorrow, if it’s not torrential rain all day, we’re going to walk into town because I need to go to the bank, that’s about a mile there in a mile back. If it does rain all day, we’ll continue with the Christmas decorations although I’m not lighting them up until next week because for me, it’s too early yet.

I hope everyone is doing well and we’ll see how December goes.

poorpaws · 03/12/2025 12:49

We walked into town yesterday at lunchtime, which was a big mistake because we were very hungry. We stopped at our favourite fish and chip shop for chips which were lovely but calorific. I didn’t have any things sweet though all day.

I’ve got a recipe for cake which contains no sugar, so I’m going to make that in the New Year and see what it tastes like. It looked nice on the video and could be useful on our no sugar escapade.

i’ve got my hand x-ray early evening and we’ve been waiting for parcels all day so we haven’t got the dogs out yet.

i hope you are all having a good Wednesday.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 03/12/2025 17:29

@poorpawsi used to make baked oats with no sugar and sweetened only with fruit, it was nice and cakey enough without it.

OP posts:
TalkToTheHand123 · 03/12/2025 17:32

Hi all. I've been window shopping to waste a couple of hours, passing a few food places along the way. 1/2 trying to be good the other 1/2 can't decide what to eat. 😂

poorpaws · 03/12/2025 18:32

@thenewaveragebear1983 yours must be a similar recipe because this one has oats, apples, banana and a couple of eggs plus raisins. I didn’t think it sounded particularly appetising until I saw how moist it looked. I thought it might just make my sugar cravings easier in the new year. DP liked the idea but then again he’ll eat anything.

its shopping day tomorrow so i might just try it this week.

had my hand X-ray this evening and half way through she stopped, left the room and asked for advice and then took three xrays instead of two. I’m not sure if that’s cause for concern or not.

TalkToTheHand123 · 03/12/2025 19:33

Sounds delicious. I ended up with a couple of small wraps from Asda so not too bad. I may start making my own.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 03/12/2025 21:41

I actually used to make it with oats and crushed up weetabix which sounds gross but it was actually nice, I would make it in a square tin and cut it into 9 squares and freeze them. It was an old slimming world recipe actually!

I’ve had a pretty rubbish day, I have eaten so much sugar! Stupidly i bought some gluten free biscuits yesterday so of course I have eaten loads of those, plus i won a bag of snowballs (best Cadbury chocolate ever, like Christmas mini eggs) at my team meeting. So I ate those too. Then both meals have been sandwiches. So my day has been entirely gluten free bread, biscuits sugar and pork. 😋 I did a dog walk and a tough circuits class outdoors in the cold and dark after work. So not an unmitigated disaster, but that’s enough now and I need to get back on the straight and narrow.

tomorrow, I’m out for a curry for dinner, but with my gym friends and I don’t think I will drink, or be tempted to overdo it as nothing will be gluten free. And it won’t be a late night or a wild one. My plan is to run at lunchtime, eat a light lunch with possibly some veggies rather than just pork, and then have a chicken balti or something tomato based and maybe share a rice.

OP posts:
poorpaws · 03/12/2025 21:54

@thenewaveragebear1983 strange you should mention a square tin just as I was cutting up parchment paper to line my square tin 😁. I’ve decided to make the cake this week and I’ve got a very busy day planned for tomorrow so decided to prepare some of it this evening. The recipe has a smaller tin than mine (although I’ve got hundreds of tins in the attic as I used to make Christmas cakes and iced fruit cakes for DDs school and a few wedding cakes) but I thought maybe a smaller piece would be a good idea. I’m looking forward to tasting it.

ive never heard of weetabix in a cake but then who would think to put carrots in a cake to make one of my favourites. Surely it can’t be too many calories and I might sprinkle almonds on the top as I put almonds and/or coconut in just about everything. I’ll let you know how it goes.

TalkToTheHand123 · 04/12/2025 13:47

I'm wanting to bake a cake now 😂. I'll get some recipes for next shop trip. Really hungry at the moment. Went out with no food this morning. Just a couple of hours to go before I can raid the fridge, freezer and cupboards though.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 04/12/2025 17:14

I had great plans to be super good but I just ended up eating a few gluten free oat biscuits snd a hot chocolate mid afternoon. I have today finished a big headache in my job and can now, finally after nearly 8 weeks, move on to the next stage of my project. It’s been a long old slog! So a little celebration was in order I think. Tonight I am out for a curry and I think I will enjoy a glass of wine to celebrate 🙌

Friday tomorrow, again. These weeks roll round quickly don’t they?

OP posts:
poorpaws · 04/12/2025 21:48

Just a quick update on my hand, it’s been a long hard day and I’m exhausted. X-rays show there is a fracture and I have to have surgery. I felt sure I’d get away with just injections but there’s no way that will work so physio are contacting me tomorrow with more information. I just have to do whatever they recommend.

I hope everyone is okay @thenewaveragebear1983 well done on doing so well in your job and yes absolutely you should celebrate.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 05/12/2025 19:54

Urgh today I was so tired and felt really hungover, muddled my way through work and ate LOADS of sugar/chocolate, I just couldn’t stop myself. Now I feel really overfed and have that sugar headache, it’s horrible. So of course I regret going out last night but 🤷‍♀️ that’s my last social now.

this weekend I need to clean this house, go for a run, and try very hard to not eat rubbish or drink. And I must get some decent sleep, I feel very tired.
we just ate really nice gnocchi (gluten free) with sage butter and Smoked bacon, mushrooms and cheese. Delish but not diet friendly at all
