I had the sane dilemma with out food shopping, I just buy the same meals and I just get so bored of food sometimes. And food is so expensive so the added hassle of feeding kids and trying to save money is just relentless. Anyway, some highlights this week will be gammon egg and pineapple, a toad in the hole on Sunday instead of a roast, baked potatoes, and batch cook a shepherds pie to make some portions for the freezer as well as a meal. I’ve really run the freezer down the last few weeks and I plan to start doing some proper batch cooking to save money and time, plus to cut out some UPF out of convenience foods. Since giving up gluten you realise how much extra stuff is in everything we eat, it’s crazy.

oh I am so glad it’s Friday. My mind is going 100 miles an hour at the moment, it’s good but I am feeling tired and a bit overwhelmed. This weekend I want to get stuck into my sons room, the electrician is coming on Monday so I need to clear his room and relocate him into my daughters room, so that will involve some trips to the tip and a good clear out. I know that sounds like the opposite of a restful weekend but actually to me that is refreshing and fun, I am looking forward to it.

I have had an ok day today, although I did eat a few chocolate covered rice cakes while I was cooking. I made a really nice shepherds pie with loads of veg for dinner. I ended up very slightly over my calorie goal which is ok, but to be honest I feel hungry now and could happily eat more.

I’ve successfully cleared my DD’s old room out and moved ds into it (which was a lot of lugging furniture up and down) as a temporary measure while we decorate, and did a few other jobs, but I did veto the gym - sounds pathetic but my arms were so so painful after bootcamp on Wednesday, just too much upper body strength training when I’m not used to it. It wasn’t even weights, it was one kettlebell and my own body weight FFS.

tomorrow I will walk the dog then I want to run as well as I’ve barely been out the last few weeks. I only have one week at work then I’m on leave, which will be lovely - a week off, I should be able to do a few nice runs and longer walks with Maggie.

i’m feeling quite despondent though. I know I won’t lose anything this week, that will make 4 weigh ins of maintain, which I guess is better than a loss but I really do not know why it is so so so slow for me, literally I am going to end this year weighing pretty much exactly what I started it at. How depressing.

After a family drama, I ran to the cupboard/fridge/freezer for comfort and ate half the contents of each!

I’ve ruined all my work! It just goes to show I can’t cope with stress. I’ll be back tomorrow but tonight I’m really upset with myself, so weak!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 19/10/2025 13:53

@poorpaws one evening in the fridge has not ruined a whole month of no sugar and all your hard work is not wasted. It’s one day! Think of what you would say to me or to your dd or partner if they said that, you would- rightly- tell them otherwise.

i swerved my run today, it’s grey and cold and driving rain and i just thought no. I did a good bit of decorating in my son’s room, painting the ceiling with undercoat. Very boring but necessary. This afternoon I am going to have a nice hour of pampering, do my hair mask and face mask, and get ready for the week. We are having sausages tonight, kids and dh having Yorkshire pudding with theirs. Lots of veg and gravy 😋

I’ve got a busy week but all my food is planned and shopping is done. Gym classes booked although my arms still really hurt from Wednesday.

in other news and non scale victories, today I walked my 1000th km with Maggie, I aimed to do that in the year so finishing over 2 months early! She’s probably done 3 times that because she runs rings around me, but I’m really pleased with that, in addition to my normal exercise.

Hi all. I finished off the batch of rice yesterday and advised my friend I don't need any more. I've been making batches of soup, using up veg, so hopefully lose some weight soon!

This morning is not going well so far, all I tried to do was edit the last paragraph because there was a mistake in it but anyway I hope you can read it and I haven’t got to retype it

thenewaveragebear1983 · 20/10/2025 11:04

Oh no @poorpaws, your picture uploaded tho. I think it’s not a terrible thing that you had one wild day, and it seems like you have reflected on that and are now better prepared going forward.

i had a terrible night last night. I have been suffering with insomnia a lot more frequently recently, feeling exhausted going to bed then once I’m in bed I am absolutely wide awake and feeling like I could never sleep again. So I woke up this morning very grouchy, lots of palpitations and generally in a bad mood. I am really trying to fast this morning but I’m already starving hungry.

i maintained this week , that’s the 4th weigh in on the trot with a maintain so although I don’t think I really deserve a big loss, I am annoyed that another month has passed and I’m still the same weight. It’s boring and very tiresome. I sometimes hate food, I wish we could just switch it off. But we still have to have it 3 times a day and then when I do, I have too much of it 🤷‍♀️

anyway-.wet miserable day here, I have soup for lunch and possibly eggs, then will make a chilli for dinner which will also do some good leftovers for the week. Last night I cooked a load of extra veg so there’s a big bowl of cooked carrots and sprouts in the fridge to either add to my meal or to snack on.

OP posts:
poorpaws · 20/10/2025 13:33

@thenewaveragebear1983 I agree it is tiresome when the scales don’t move after a month, but you have to bear in mind that you’ve not gained.

it’s a miserable day here too, and we took the dogs out in the rain. I fell on my right hand so now it’s swollen and it hurts like hell. It’s put me in a really bad mood because I’ve got a lot to do this afternoon and it hurts when I use it so it looks like unless I use my left hand, I shouldn’t get much done again.

I’ve just had soup again for lunch and I really am getting a bit sick of it now. I think that was part of my binge as well, in that I needed something different to eat. I had a slice of toast with the soup which is a little bit more filling. I just want something really different and nice, but I don’t know what.

so it’s back on plan today, hopefully and back to trying to get this fat from my bones.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 20/10/2025 19:12

I have had a good day today and have stuck to my calorie goals, in fact I have 200 left spare. I have been hungry all day and really wanted something but I made myself wait till my dinner was ready. I bulked it out with veg. I did actually make a really nice chilli and wedges for dinner. 😋

OP posts:
thenewaveragebear1983 · 21/10/2025 19:44

Stick to my calories today but after dinner I was really craving something sweet. In the end I took the dog out and felt a bit better afterwards. It makes me realise how often I was probably going over my calories because the last few days I have felt really hungry and I know for a fact I would have had something previously and probably not counted it. Considering it is Tuesday and my office day, I think I did well although technically I did cheat and not stay at the office all day!

I didn’t get out for a run either but I’m planning to go tomorrow, I’ve got a really busy few days now til I break up from work for a week. I didn’t a shopping order earlier so all food planned for the next few days. I am really hoping for a loss this week, I think I deserve one after a whole month of maintains!

OP posts:
TalkToTheHand123 · 22/10/2025 19:22

Hi all. I chucked out a couple of cupfulls of soup as I couldn't drink anymore from my latest batch.

I had a chicken wrap from the local takeaway restaurant this afternoon. I didn't enjoy it so hopefully I'm off takeaway food now properly.

poorpaws · 22/10/2025 20:14

It’s not gone well at all here, it’s been really bad. My hand injury was much worse than I first thought and I’ve suffered a tremendous amount of pain. It’s not broken but extremely swollen and very painful on the side of my hand/wrist where I fell.

I fear I’ve been medicating my pain with anything sugar. A friend came to see me today and brought me a box of matchmakers, I’m not really keen on them but ate them anyway. I’ve cleared all the freezer of anything I froze when I was not eating sugar and Ive cleared all the cupboards of anything remotely like chocolate.

Every morning I think it will be better today and by the evening it isn’t. I will definitely be seeing another gain week.

It’s very nice to hear that both of you are doing well.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 22/10/2025 21:34

@poorpawsi am sorry you have hurt yourself so badly, are you sure it’s not broken? I would get it checked out maybe, you may at least get some stronger pain relief even if it’s not broken.

@TalkToTheHand123i’m impressed you are still doing your soups. I have been making them but I need to freeze it I think, I manage a couple of days worth but then I get bored.

I was in a grumpy mood today, I weighed myself this morning and considering I’ve had a couple of good days, was very annoyed to have gained a pound. Yes it’s only a few days but really? How annoying. I’ve not been running much or been to the gym since last Weds, my arms were just too sore after last week and I have been feeling under the weather generally again, with terrible palpitations. But I ran today and will try very hard to get to a gym session Friday or Saturday, and another couple of runs. I am on leave next week so I plan to pick up again then. I’m really tired and my job is very challenging although it is enjoyable. But I am ready for a break

went slightly over on calories today on a measley portion of gluten free pasta that was 282 calories just for the pasta! Then Boursin cheese and salmon with it as well tipped into the high calorie zone. I haven’t been snacking or binging, just basically eating 2 meals and my coffees / teas each day, it’s thoroughly depressing how little food 1500 calories gets you, I do not know how anyone manages on less than that. Anyway, I will keep on, my plan is to stick to 1500 as long as i can. My meals are planned and they should be nice, with lots of veg and a few new ideas this week. Like a potato and spinach curry 😋

OP posts:
poorpaws · 22/10/2025 21:47

@thenewaveragebear1983 thank you. One of the problems with my hand is that it’s already quite arthritic. It’s a family problem, my mother, father and brother all had very arthritic hands at quite a young age. unfortunately I fell on the side of my hand that is most arthritic and it’s made the arthritic fingers much worse. The swelling has gone down slightly tonight, but it’s very difficult not using my right hand when I am very right-handed.

It’s food shopping morning tomorrow and I’m definitely not buying any chocolate. I have to have a small amount for DP, but I’m not buying any for me because I know If I buy it, I’ll eat it. So my plan tomorrow is to buy a lot of veg and eat loads of food from the freezer. I know there’s a chicken pie, cottage pie and there might even be a fish pie, all home-made and should be really eaten soon. The pie is not pastry, it’s potato. there’s also quite a lot of cooked chicken breasts which will make easy meals all next week.

I’m going to try to stick to plan for the rest of this week so that I can hopefully do damage limitation.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 23/10/2025 19:52

Oooh that sounds painful @poorpaws, how are you feeling now?

I had such a long week, I’m working so hard currently, I am enjoying it but my brain is tired and I’m exhausted- so I bought a bottle of wine and bag of Cadbury snowballs 🤦‍♀️ and I know I’m going to regret it but 🤷‍♀️

OP posts:
poorpaws · 23/10/2025 20:31

@thenewaveragebear1983 enjoy and don’t regret, you want it, you need it, you deserve it.

I did slightly better today, I wasn’t perfect but better. The day has flown. I did a food shop this morning and then we walked the dogs to our café and by the time we came back, it was late afternoon. I bought one of those chickens in a bag that you just put in the oven and I cooked that this evening. The wings and legs will go to the dogs and I can just pick up the breast as well as having it with veg tomorrow. I’ve been ranting about this most of the day but a cauliflower was £1.39 and I just can’t get over it, the price of food is absolutely ridiculous.

My hand is still extremely painful, and it looks as if there’s some damage to two of the knuckles. The swelling has gone down significantly, but the bruising is now coming out and you can absolutely tell where I fell on it. The side of my hand thudded onto a tree root as I fell on top of it and crushed it. I’ve got a blood test next week so I might see if the nurse thinks I should see a doctor. I don’t know what it’s like in your part of the country, but it’s virtually impossible to see a doctor here. I’m trying hard to use my left hand, but I can’t write with it, I’ve tried. It’s so frustrating, earlier for instance I couldn’t open a. bottle of Coke, I can’t twist the screw top. There’s so much I can’t do now.

it also hit me this morning that I’m really not enjoying the porridge I start the day with. Over the summer I had fresh strawberries or raspberries in my porridge and now they are so expensive I’ve been using frozen ones but I’m just not enjoying it. This morning I just had a teaspoon of sugar instead of the frozen berries and I enjoyed it so much more. I think a teaspoon of sugar is only about 17 or 18 cals so I can’t see that that’s going to be a problem.

@thenewaveragebear1983 I really hope you are enjoying your treats this evening.

TalkToTheHand123 · 25/10/2025 00:38

Love to all. I have scalephobia. I feel like I've been doing quite well but I feel heavier. I've started a new exercise routine today. Hoping I don't forget to keep doing it as usual.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 25/10/2025 07:21

Morning all. Happy Saturday. I have done virtually zero exercise this week, I think I ran once and I didn’t go to the gym at all! Weather was too rainy and cold and i need some winter kit really before i can brave it. No excuse for the running though, except for I didn’t want to ! My foods been… ok. I have had some nice meals, but I have had a few snacks and other things, and wine. I’ll probably just get another maintain this week 🙄

I’m very bored of it now but I just do not seem to be able to eat consistently low enough calories to lose, and week after week of diet to see virtually no loss is very demotivating. I feel like I need a bit of a shake up or to try something new for a bit of a boost. I wonder whether trying something like keto would work for me, or 5:2, or a combination of both? I have done low carb before and had good results. And as I have a week off now it’s maybe a good time to try it as I will be busy and won’t be just standing at my desk all day.

OP posts:
poorpaws · 25/10/2025 07:33

Hi all

it’s that time of year we all need comfort food, so I don’t think it’s going very well for all of us.

it’s not going well at all for me. Because I can’t do much with my hand, I’m sitting around a lot and that’s when I eat. I didn’t buy anything sweet from the supermarket so last night I was frantically rummaging the freezer to see what I could find. After a very large dinner, a large dessert I ate two defrosted scones, a small chocolate bar of DPs and a packet of crisps. That really isn’t a very good result.

my big frustration at the moment is that I keep breaking crockery. So I’ll pick a bowl up with my right hand and it can’t take any weight so I drop it and smash it. I did a double take yesterday, I dropped a bowl and it landed in the dog bowl and both broke, I cannot tell you how annoyed it makes me and how frustrated I get.

I can’t pretend that today will go well, as they say I’m not in the zone so I fear it will be quite a gain this week. I’m determined to keep posting to try and put me on the right track but my heart is really not in it.

Have a happy weekend.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 25/10/2025 20:15

Oh poor paws that doesn’t sound good. I hope you feel better soon.

I have decided I’m doing fast800 for a few weeks, I think it will be horrible and I think I’ll be really hungry and probably grumpy. But I need to do something. The way I look at it is my actual food is probably ok, it’s everything else, and it’s not like it’s making me feel good anyway so I might as well try something drastic. We’ll see- it’s definitely worked well for me before but I was in a much better headspace then so I don’t know if I will manage but I’m not managing this way either so nothing to lose really. And at least I am busy this week with lots of jobs and flat pack furniture to build, I’ve booked my gym classes and done a shop order and planned a few days menu.

today I walked Maggie twice, and then when I got home I painted Ds’s bedroom ceiling and filled all the edges , and I changed a light switch which had been buzzing, which was actually very pleased with as I had to learn a new skill. It may be small beans but to me it was a big thing. Tomorrow, I want to go for a gentle run, I am going to kids football, and more decorating (this will be the theme of the week!) but I am glad to be busy.

OP posts:
poorpaws · 25/10/2025 20:25

@thenewaveragebear1983 You are so busy, you put me to shame. The fast800 Sounds fairly brutal, but if you are in the right headspace, you’ll definitely do it. Well done with your new DIY skills and I hope your decorating goes well.

I haven’t much to report, I’ve walked the dogs and done very little else. My daughter popped in this afternoon because she knew I wanted to change my bed and I just can’t manage it with this awful hand so she did that for me which I’m very grateful for. We always go to IKEA at half term so that could be tomorrow or maybe later in the week. I’d rather go later but I think DD would like to go tomorrow so we’ll see.

I’ve had another day of eating the wrong things and another day of pain so tomorrow might be the same. I’m going to try and start again on Monday (I don’t know why I always start on Monday).

TalkToTheHand123 · 25/10/2025 22:19

Hi all. I've managed to keep away from the biscuits and decline offers of pasta and bolognaise, mcdonalds food, pizza and chocolate and instead ate my two tubs of chicken salads I prepared earlier. The offers of this individual I believe has seriously been hampering me over the last few months, so touch wood I can start losing weight. She is starting to get the message so is becoming a little easier to decline also.

My plan is to try improve a little each week also, ie. no wraps from the local takeaways when in the area.
