@TalkToTheHand123 in my opinion light exercise is good at any time. I’d say harsh heavy workouts have their own time and place but gentle exercise surely is good for you no matter when it’s done. Disclaimer - I know nothing but that’s just my opinion.

another day and the headaches are reducing significantly. When I move my head my neck cracks and clunks a lot so I’m guessing it’s my sleeping position which isn’t helping.

its raining! Oh how I hate the rain. Whether the dogs will want a walk is unlikely and DP will be here with nothing to do but stare into his phone. This is the time I bake just to keep myself busy and sane but I think I’d better not today because I don’t think my willpower will be good if there’s cake in the house.

i don’t think I’ve lost anything at all this week, I don’t feel any different in fact I feel heavier but I won’t know for sure until Monday and that will be after Sundays Nando meal. Maybe I’m just preparing myself for the worst.

poorpaws · 03/10/2025 08:47

Oh blimey @thenewaveragebear1983 I missed your post earlier, I wonder if I was typing mine when yours came through.

What a terrible result for you, I assume it’s a reputable company? The only reason I ask this is that many years ago I went to a health and wellbeing place in Lincoln and after a long interview/chat and many questions (my ME was really bad at this point and I’d had to drag myself out of bed to actually go) I was told I had a gluten intolerance and it was very high. I tried to deal with it as best I could considering how ill I was at this time. Anyway fast forward many years and a Medical Professor (I can’t remember his official title) at Hallamshire Hospital, Sheffield I saw who was an expert and lectured all over the world advised me I wasn’t intolerant at all and that many, many of these people have little or no experience or qualifications and are there just to make money.

i thought it was worth mentioning this although im sure you went to a reputable place.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 03/10/2025 14:31

@poorpawsi agree actually, I think they are only a guide and not to be taken too seriously, however the results do kind of fit with what I have thought anyway. I have felt so much better since giving up gluten but I have often wondered if I am affected by dairy as well. I go through phases of eating loads of it, but I can also cut it down quite easily if I want to so I think I’m going to try for a few weeks just to see.

TalkToTheHand123 · 03/10/2025 19:21

Hi all. I'll sign up for the having trouble with dairy group as I've had issues over the years and try to avoid.
My latest food issue is a friend making me too much fried rice. I'll have to tell her as it doesn't seem to help with my dieting.
I've had a couple of sleeps today and still feel a bit tired. I'm hoping to be able to get some light exercise in tonight as last night's seemed to give me a very good sleep, although going to bed at a sensible time would be even better.

Ooh looks like my iPad is accepting my typing now so I’m back.

@HelloDaisy hello and welcome, it’s very nice to have you here. If you read back a little you’ll find that I have a sugar problem too. I’ve been struggling for years with my sugar addiction and I’ve cut down many times and then given in. Last week I went cold turkey and gave it up completely. Yes I had cravings but not as bad as the ones I had when I cut down and just had a little. It’s early days, it’s not easy but I’ve had tremendous support on here and no judgement if I fail. I hope you stay with us, we are so supportive.

Thank you so much for your post. I am planning on starting tomorrow as can go food shopping today and get prepared.

Everyone at work has been complaining at amount of cake and biscuits we have in the office so we have decided to ditch it all! Can you recommend anything we could have there that will help with snacking but not fruit as think that may go off and cause problems with fruit flies etc..

poorpaws · 04/10/2025 08:30

@HelloDaisy you’re back! I thought you’d left us but I hope you stay. I haven’t any advice but I hope your new regime works well. I’ve still had no sugar, nearly 3 weeks now but after week 1 the fat is still sticking to me and the loss is tiny. I’m going to try to keep going though as even if I don’t lose much weight I’m not gaining every week as I was and it’s bound to be better for my body. I am noticing without the sugar I am turning to low fat crisps during the evening.

how is everyone doing? It’s cold and I’m permanently tired and going to bed early every night. It’s getting to the time of warming casseroles and hot soup 🙁 how I hate autumn and winter.

HelloDaisy · 04/10/2025 08:37

thenewaveragebear1983 · 23/09/2025 09:52

Hi @HelloDaisy, I agree with @poorpaws, I find it much easier to completely cold turkey than to try to moderate, and in addition to the cravings being less, what you also find is that when you reintroduce the food you know straight away if it’s the problem. Sugar is a tricky one because firstly we hang so much importance on it, for celebrations and treats, and self care etc. giving it up feels like a real punishment whereas eg, giving up rice isn’t such a hardship! The other reason sugar is hard to give up is because often sugar acts in tandem with other things that also cause us issues eg. Sugar + gluten , which makes it harder to piece together. When I give up sugar, I still eat fruit and find it ok, however if I’m not eating much sugar I find that lactose, especially yogurt (even full fat Greek) , and porridge oats absolutely skyrocket my blood glucose. The process of an elimination is always I think to first clear the path, get yourself to a baseline, then really gradually reintroduce. Hopefully you’ll find a place where you can have some of the food and know your limits.

Thank you for your detailed reply and the info. That makes a lot of sense to me as I have been trying to have Greek yoghurt for breakfast but find it makes me feel rough some mornings although not all the time so will look at what I’m eating with it on the days it doesn’t agree with me.
I'm planning on going cold turkey as have realised that trying to cut down is tough as I kept allowing myself treats which wasn’t helping!

DD has been advised to go gluten free due to health issues so I am doing that with her which is actually making me feel better so that’s a plus.

HelloDaisy · 04/10/2025 08:45

@poorpaws. Sorry it took me so long to reply but life was a bit manic all of a sudden, but hopefully back on track now and planning on staying on this thread😊

Shame you haven’t noticed any weight loss as yet but I am sure it will be good for your body to have given up sugar. I am on hrt gel so can’t eat for 2 hours before using it. I have an alarm on my phone at 8pm to stop eating which helps me to stop snacking when watching tv!

poorpaws · 04/10/2025 08:52

@HelloDaisy I haven’t given up fruit, I have frozen mixed fruit in my porridge, pineapple with my salad and grapes with yogurt as a dessert.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 04/10/2025 11:35

@poorpawsdo you use a calorie tracker? Maybe you are unconsciously eating more because you’re not having sugar?

welcome back @HelloDaisy

i’ve had a busy day so far, trying make the most of the wind and get some washing out to dry but it’s really stormy out there now and I fear it’s going to end up all over my neighbours garden. I’ve done a fair bit of housework and tidying and sold a few items on vinted so I’ve been paid for my work! Excellent.

I’ve just eaten my ‘breakfast’ of a chicken thigh and a glass of apple cider vinegar mixed with juice. It’s weirdly addictive actually, you can taste the vinegar but it’s not offensive. I am Nearly through the bottle, I’d love to say I have lost weight and feel my immune system improved (the two main selling points of ACV) however I haven’t, and I’ve got a sore throat and I can feel it on my chest now so clearly not 🦠

OP posts:
poorpaws · 04/10/2025 17:05

@thenewaveragebear1983 no I don’t track calories. I’ve always had three fruits per day but you are right other foods are creeping in like a latte every evening but without the chocolate bar or two I used have with it and also crisps, I’m eating crisps every evening too.

it was quite bleak early on here And I get very bored when it’s bad weather so I always bake. I didn’t want to make anything sweet, anything with sugar, so I made a quiche, big mistake! All my flan dishes except one are in the attic and the one I used happened to be a loose bottomed one so most of the middle of the quiche seeped out. It was an absolute disaster and a complete waste of an afternoon. I did make DP a bacon and runny egg sandwich which he said was delicious but apart from that the afternoon has been a waste of time. I had my usual soup and a slice of toast for lunch but it was difficult to forego the bacon and egg sandwich.

TalkToTheHand123 · 04/10/2025 18:51

Good evening MN as I enter confession to confess to having a mcdonalds meal which was offered to myself and I was unable to decline. I'm hoping it doesn't derail me too much. I've just remebered I have spinach drinks to consume which I made earlier today. I'm hoping I can flush my sins away.

poorpaws · 04/10/2025 20:27

@TalkToTheHand123. You are forgiven my child (aka you messed up, don’t do it again 🤣)

TalkToTheHand123 · 04/10/2025 21:01

Thsnk you @poorpaws , but I fear I cannot promise this as I keep failing and don't know how to stop this.

TalkToTheHand123 · 05/10/2025 08:30

I had a chicken mayo burger and large fries. I suppose if this would be an only weekly treat for me, it wouldn't bee too off tracking.

Plan for this week is no wraps, no milkshakes and no chocolate cake, to improve from last week or so.

poorpaws · 05/10/2025 10:07

@TalkToTheHand123 your plan sounds great. It’s so hard isn’t it? Whoever said dieting is easy tells lies in my opinion. Just keep doing your best, we are all muddling through here and we all have good and bad days. Maybe you’ll have some good days next week 🤞

I’ve got jeans in three sizes, 12, 14 and the dreaded size 16 I seem to have been wearing most of this year. I only have two pairs of size 16 and was actually looking to buy some more recently but I really didn’t want to.

its a lovely day here so I decided to do a dark load wash and both size 16s are in that load. I was searching through my wardrobe and drawers to find out what I could wear today, I know I’ve got joggers that might fit but I don’t like them. I’ve got two pairs of jeans size 12 still with the tags on so never worn! I tried a pair on that I thought might fit and could not even get them over my bottom, but then I looked in the back and they are a size 12 so no wonder. I found a pair of size 14s which is my usual size and I’ve got a lot of jeans in this size. I picked out a pair and I can get them on, in fact they are quite comfortable. I’ve always been very honest on here so full disclaimer they are M&S straight leg jeans so probably a bit bigger than most shops and they are well worn so probably have stretched, but I don’t care because I’ve got them on and I feel really pleased with myself. What I need to do now is to lose enough weight to wear all of my size 14s and then go down to a 12. Ha! I can’t see that happening in the anywhere near future.

have a good Sunday everyone.

poorpaws · 05/10/2025 10:26

I’ve got a new weight loss goal. Jackie, the lady who runs the cafe we go to every week Is going on a very exciting holiday in two weeks time and she’s closing the café for three weeks. We are very friendly with her as we’ve been going for at least 2 1/2 years and she often asks how I’m doing with my weight. She knows whether I’m on a diet or not as to whether I have black coffee or a latte😁. I’ve lost 4 lbs and I’ve got two weeks before she goes and then three weeks whilst she’s away and when she comes back, I want my weight loss to be noticeable. I should’ve easily lost half a stone by then but I’d like it to be more. That is very easy to say but much harder to do but I’d like to try and I’m normally good at working to goals and deadlines. It could be a 10/11 lbs loss <gulp>, I can try though. Do you think it’s doable? We always laugh together at how rubbish I am at losing weight.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 05/10/2025 14:19

@poorpawsi think you could lose 7lbs by the time she comes back 👍

OP posts:
HelloDaisy · 05/10/2025 22:03

@poorpaws. I think that’s doable, especially as you’ve got an aim with a date in mind. You definitely can do it!

TalkToTheHand123 · 05/10/2025 23:02

I seem to go off track when I'm not prepared so I intend to do a bit better planning. I do believe I'm a bit more in control of my food habits. I don't eat half as many burgers, pizzas, sausages and chips. I have been eating a lot of fried rice recently though, but going off it a bit so have that under a bit more control.

It's a little baffling I haven't lost any weight over the last few weeks though. I maybe just need to give it a few more weeks as digestion rate must be a bit slower than expected.

Good luck with the cafe plan @poorpaws .

thenewaveragebear1983 · 06/10/2025 06:46

Well I put on a pound last week which I am a bit annoyed about but realise that i probably do deserve that, I did eat quite a lot of chocolate and gluten free bread. My hormones are going crazy, about 2 weeks ago I had a mid cycle bleed on day 11 which lasted a whole week, I am now on day 14 and I’ve come on again. This isn’t really normal for me but does explain why the last few days I’ve been an anxious wreck again and beside myself with sugar cravings. I had the most horrendous night sweats last night as well, woke up cold and soaking wet and it’s such a long time since I’ve had that, so clearly my hormones are going haywire.

i start my new role today so I’m going to get ready and take Maggie out. My plan was to try a bit of intermittent fasting this week, basically hold off eating breakfast, and really really focus on actually sticking to my calorie goal/limit. 10 weeks/ 11 weeks til Christmas and I know I can do a pound a week but I also know I could easily gain 1lb a week if I don’t get myself back on track.

OP posts:
poorpaws · 06/10/2025 09:35

@TalkToTheHand123 I agree that planning really does focus the mind on healthy eating. Hopefully you’ll lose next week if you haven’t lost for a while. You haven’t gained though have you? If you’ve sts it’s a win in my book.

@thenewaveragebear1983 you certainly seem to be struggling with your cycle, I hope it all settles soon. Good luck with your new role, I hope it goes well for you. Yep Christmas is well on the way.

I lost 1.5 lbs this week and that’s 5.5 lbs in three weeks and I’m delighted. I kept getting on and off the scales because I didn’t believe it. Considering I’ve eaten out twice this week and once was the night before my weigh-in, I think it’s somewhat of a miracle.

I had the most lovely afternoon and evening out yesterday. The Nando’s meal was delicious and it’s the very first time I’ve ever been there and not had dessert. The lecture was really good, not what I expected but good. I was absolutely astounded at how lovely Exeter University is, the lecture hall (if that’s where we were) was gorgeous and I thought the seating and ambience were nicer than my home.

i’ve now done three weeks of no sugar and it really does seem to be working and just proves the enormous amount of sweet stuff I ate. As I said before, I’m just doing one week at a time because knowing me I can ruin it all in a heartbeat. Hopefully then another week this week of no sugar and as far as I know, I think we’ve only got one meal out which of course is our café. I feel now after this weigh-in that I’m well on the way to making my goal work.

poorpaws · 06/10/2025 09:41

@HelloDaisy do you weigh-in on Mondays or are you not weighing, sorry I can’t remember. If it is today good luck and I hope you’re doing well.

HelloDaisy · 06/10/2025 13:52

No official weigh ins for me but I tend to weigh myself at home on Tuesdays. I was at SW pre Covid but nothing since then.

hope you have a good week.
