Ah, a secret eater! I'm the same at the moment.

I've just had a shepherd's pie ready meal. Usually I'd be disgusted with myself and feel shame, but it was kinglovely 😮.

A customer gave me a caramel coffee sachet yesterday and I think he's got me hooked. I just bought a couple of boxes.

I'll be drinking the rest of my sweetcorn drinks later when I get home. I may make another batch also.

TalkToTheHand123 · 23/09/2025 17:00

It's made me want to cook some classic meals from scratch, so going to start making a shopping list for ingredients. Anyone have any favourite meals?

thenewaveragebear1983 · 23/09/2025 17:10

I need to feel full too, I find it much easier in the winter when we eat big meals of comfort food rather than light salads!

I also don’t think my husband would notice if I stopped eating chocolate or bread or anything, he notices when I don’t drink though!

@TalkToTheHand123i can give you a refer a friend code for simply cook if you like, they are like seasoning kits (unlike hello fresh etc, you still have to buy the ingredients) but every single one I’ve had has been delicious,

poorpaws · 23/09/2025 17:25

@TalkToTheHand123 I suppose you could call it secret eating but I’ve always been an evening snacker. I tend to be busy in the day and when I’ve ’closed the kitchen’ (that always makes me smile because my friends close their kitchens after dinner but my kitchen is always open), and relax that’s when I start binge eating.

its definitely no secret from DP or my whole extended family that I’m a chocoholic glutton, everyone knows I eat at night so it’s no secret really. Also I couldn’t keep it quiet if I wanted to, it shows on my hips and stomach.🤣

it’s still going well here, I just about to have dinner which isn’t too calorific.

poorpaws · 24/09/2025 08:55

Good morning everyone

I find it very hard to believe I’m saying this but I’m just starting day 10 of no sugar. It feels like some sort of miracle has happened because I just wouldn’t have believed this was possible.

I was watching a lady on YouTube last night who decided to give up sugar for 30 days. Like me she still had fruit because that’s a natural sugar but she went a step further than I’m doing because she checked sugar on packaging and she (and I) was shocked at how many packets and bottles that we consume regularly contain sugar, and quite a higher amount of sugar. After 30 days, and she did struggle originally, she felt so much better that she decided to continue. I cannot imagine that I would ever do that but then again I never imagined that I’d be on my 10th day so who knows what will happen.

I think what shows on the scale next Monday will determine what I’m doing next. I just cannot imagine. I’ll lose another 1 lb towards my Christmas goal because of the good weight loss last week but if I do, I can see me wanting to do this for another week at least

I mentioned before that I bought DP a huge amount of chocolate and sweets for his birthday because he’s so difficult to buy for. Now he doesn’t eat chocolate like I do but if it’s there, he’ll eat it so every morning I get a running commentary of what he chose out of his huge goodie bag And how lovely it was. All this when I’m not having any but of course he doesn’t realise that.

I hope you’re all doing well.

TalkToTheHand123 · 24/09/2025 10:39

Aww thanks @thenewaveragebear1983 I'll just grab all I need at the local supermarket. I have a few near me.

I went to the cafe this morning in my new area but it was closed. Ended up having a 6inch subway. Have a big tub of salad with me today and a coupke tubs of soup.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 24/09/2025 11:16

@poorpawsthat’s amazing, 🤩 and yes it is amazing how much it is in everything. I find when k give up sugar it pretty much forces me to give up most processed foods because it is in everything. I hope you continue to enjoy it.

Hello, may I join you? I struggle with starting my weight loss journey, I promise myself that I start today and everyday I fail :/. I put on weight due to some meds I need to take longterm and it's been over 4 years since. I honestly do not know how to motivate myself.

TalkToTheHand123 · 24/09/2025 12:32

Welcome @ILikeItHere & good luck.

Well I'm drinking plenty water here in an office where someone must think they are at the north pole. The heater has been on solid for an hour.

poorpaws · 24/09/2025 14:05

Hi @ILikeItHereand welcome. We’re all in the same boat but you’ll get a lot of support here.

we went to our café today and I had chicken on a bap with a bit of salad. The chicken was coated in some sort of crumb which wasn’t ideal, but it was pure chicken breast, not the reconstituted stuff and it was delicious. It was a large bap with lettuce, tomato, red onion and a lovely relish on the side which I only had a little bit off. I didn’t think that was too bad a decision. I realise there will be sugar in something there, definitely the relish, but my aim was only to give up pure sugar, not extras in relish and similar. I gave the tortilla chips to DP and the extra relish.

i feel quite positive today (maybe before a fail?) I’ll have to be careful tonight because lunch was quite big so I don’t want to overeat this evening. I so wish I could see a difference in my figure but of course it’s far too early.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 24/09/2025 21:30

That chicken burger sounds delicious @poorpaws

@TalkToTheHand123its gone really chilly here, the sun is still out but it’s definitely autumn now.

@ILikeItHerewelcome! You’ve joined us at a good time as we all seem to be on it at the moment 😇

@HelloDaisyhow are you getting on?

I’ve had a stinking headache all day, and weirdly I’m having a mid cycle bleed, came on on day 11 of my cycle. I wonder if that’s as a result of cutting gluten? I’ve had some non gluten grains the last few days , today I tried oats and then had a headache all day. Ok so I know now that they definitely aren’t working for me. I am not finding it difficult to go without because I honestly feel so much better, today I was walking Maggie and realised that my mind was just quiet. I just walked, looked at the sun and the sky and the park and just walked, no narrative, no doom. It was conspicuous in its absence.

I’m not doing brilliantly at calorie counting though, I’m struggling to plan my meals properly and I’m eating a bit over my target each day. I think I’ll end up maintaining this week and i do need to be in a deficit to actually lose so I will have to tighten up a bit. I did some food prep after work today and made scotch eggs, and a delicious honey and mustard chicken which we had for dinner with baked potatoes and brocolli

OP posts:
poorpaws · 24/09/2025 22:07

@thenewaveragebear1983 I hope you headache subsides soon, it sounds horrible. You are doing so well being glutton free and I agree we all seem to be in the zone right now and long may it continue 🤞
C
after watching the YouTube video I spoke about earlier I decided to check the latte sachets that I’m starting to get back into but without the added chocolate bars. The very first ingredient on the list was of course sugar. It’s such a good thing that my sugar reduction doesn’t and never did include drinks and products that included some sugar. I just knew before I even checked that sugar would be top of the list. I honestly don’t want to get into checking every box or bottle of everything I eat so I’m going to continue giving up what I originally signed up for

Day 10 done and all went well. I was tempted to have a midweek weigh-in but I didn’t want to be put off because I honestly don’t think I’ve lost anything yet this week so I refrained.

some of our new members have gone very quiet after their original post so I hope you haven’t given up and are doing well..

thenewaveragebear1983 · 25/09/2025 06:56

I’ve always felt that porridge oats made my blood sugar sky rocket so maybe it makes sense that oatcakes gave me a headache. Or maybe it’s a virus, as I woke up this morning (having a very long detailed dream about pizza dough - aaaah gluten dreams!) with a sore gritty throat and not feeling 100%. I shall explain to Anyone new to the thread I am the most infection/virus/ weird illness prone person you’ll ever meet- nothing serious, although I have been tested for some scary things, but basically I have chronic poor health and always feel “under the weather” and coming down with something. I never used to be like this, but now something always either aches, hurts, is infected, or if none of the above, I just feel tired.

I have a busy day today, doing several training sessions with other staff before I leave my current role for a 6 month secondment. I would like to go for a run at some point, I planned to go this morning but changed my mind. My food is planned, I’m having chia seeds in kefir with fruit, scotch egg and salad for lunch, and I’m going to roast a chicken and strip the meat off for a chicken pie (no pastry for me) and have some meat leftover for lunch tomorrow.

OP posts:
poorpaws · 25/09/2025 07:32

@thenewaveragebear1983 I was very tired last night when I wrote my post. This morning I noticed “glutton free” and it made me laugh so much. Obs it was supposed to be gluten as glutton only applies to me here.

I had another bad night and I’ll be pleased when this ends. I am so tired and irritable atm. DP keeps undermining my authority with my dogs and I was raging about it through the night, right to the point where we would break up, which is quite ridiculous and ott. I shall be warning him today not to give them so many treats and they dont need the duck food he keeps sneaking them 🤬

so another day looms, food shopping this morning for healthy food but DD has requested sultana scones. I keep a very good food store normally but I can’t believe I have no sultanas, very little unsalted butter, very little SR flour and no eggs. This is because I’m keeping less and less in the house to tempt me.

last week I bought a pack of Kit-Kats just in case, they are still in the cupboard untouched 😇. This week I am buying no chocolate at all which must be the first time I’ve been shopping and not bought chocolate in decades 😇😇😇😇😇

so today it’s a food shop, dog walk, a little cleaning and scone making for me. Do you think I am capable of making scones and not trying one? Mmmm …

BrownFlower2 · 25/09/2025 18:17

I've started drinking loads more water in the last 10 days. No weight lost but I certainly feel better. I've started taking magnesium for my migraines. I'm not sure if it's helping yet.
Diet wise I've done ok, apart from Tuesday when I had a big binge of crisps and chocolate. One in a week is an improvement from 3 or 4. I'm just hoping I can lose the cravings soon. I agree that going cold turkey is often the best way.

poorpaws · 25/09/2025 18:44

@BrownFlower2 we’ve just got to try our best, some of the time we’ll do well and at other times we’ll fail miserably. The thing is if we keep on trying we’ll succeed some of the time, that’s better than never.

in the car on the way back from the supermarket DP was really pleased with himself because he’d bought mince pies (we both love mince pies and they’ve just come into the shops for Christmas). He was saying when we got home we could have a cup of coffee and at least one mince pie each, if not more. I had to tell him I don’t have sugar anymore and he laughed so hysterically I thought he was going to smash the car. Bless him though he did leave the mince pies in the car so that I wouldn’t be tempted and hes taken them home this evening.

As if that wasn’t test enough, my lovely neighbour who is a chef and I’ve told you about her before, she came over with a blackberry and apple crumble. It just looked and smelled divine and I thought this is it, this is when I’m going to break my no sugar rule. After sniffing it and looking at it longingly I cut it in half, passed one huge piece to DP to take home and I froze my piece. All in all it’s been a very challenging day but so far I think I can say I’ve passed.

I didn’t get the scones or the parsnip soup made, and yet again I don’t know where today has gone. I’m still on track -just!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 25/09/2025 19:28

@poorpawsyou are totally smashing it, well
done you. I think you’re handling it perfectly, you are not saying you’re never going to eat sugar or treats again, but actually you’re saving them til they are a treat for you and not because someone else wants them. I think that’s a massive win. So much of the food I eat (and alcohol) is because someone else around me has no willpower <dh> wants a treat

we have double birthday in our house this weekend, actually Monday and Tuesday - but I am not eating any cake because I am so pleased with how much less anxious I feel. So no cake, but we will have raclette (basically meat) and fondue on Saturday, then Sunday we have dhs parents coming round, then Monday my parents coming round. So a lot of calorific meals. I really don’t feel like drinking but I might do once the weekend rolls round, although I have done the whole of September dry.

TalkToTheHand123 · 25/09/2025 22:58

Hi all. I think I've managed to stop my friend leading me astray with takeaways so hopefully this will finally help shed a few lbs over the next few weeks. I have another friend who is really against alcohol so have avoided it in her presence, so hoping this will also help!

poorpaws · 26/09/2025 08:47

@TalkToTheHand123 it’s so easy to follow our friends lead so it’s great you’ve managed to stop this. I’m sure it will help with your weight loss; we’ll see in the coming weeks.

@thenewaveragebear1983 navigating one birthday is hard enough but two! Wow that’s hard. I hope you manage to avoid temptation but if you do have a few treats so be it, you’ll sort it out in the following weeks.

its still going ok here, we might be back at our cafe again today. If thats the case I’ll continue with the black coffees and the chicken bap was so good I think I’ll have that again and nothing sweet will pass my lips. 😇

have a great day.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 26/09/2025 20:29

Wow. I am so glad it’s Friday and it’s my Monday off next week so a 3 day weekend for me. Much needed! I have had a very long challenging week. Do you know though, my anxiety is substantially less, a month ago I was genuinely struggling and my head feel so much clearer now. It’s really quite astonishing, and after my difficult week I would normally have turned to a wine or chocolate but instead I had a Sprite Zero and did some housework. I made a chicken pie but I cooked the pastry separate so dh and kids had a pastry topper and I just had the filling and a baked potato.

tomorrow- Bootcamp, food is all planned, dinner will be ds’s favourite for his birthday (hot plate /raclette meat with some nice sides). Sunday I’d like a run but my legs were really heavy and tired today so I’ll see. Hope you all have a lovely weekend

OP posts:
poorpaws · 26/09/2025 21:18

@thenewaveragebear1983 such good news from you, you sound so much happier and most definitely in control. I hope the birthday celebrations go really well.

We did go to the café today and I did have the chicken bap again, which really is absolutely delicious. I came home and made the sultana scones and parsnip soup. I’ll be having the parsnip soup for lunch most days and I can honestly tell you that I didn’t touch a scone, even though I love them. I put four scones in a container for DP to take home tomorrow, I held one back for his lunch here, put three scones in a container for daughter (she doesn’t eat much) and I froze the rest immediately. I honestly think I’m turning into a saint and I hardly recognise myself. I’m just hoping for some sort of loss, even if it’s minuscule.

as far as I know we’ve got no plans for tomorrow so DP will probably be in the garden and I’ll have to do some housework, my life is so rock ‘n’ roll! 😁

TalkToTheHand123 · 26/09/2025 21:54

I'm off to the supermarket tomorrow and plan to go wild and get lots of salad food.

poorpaws · 26/09/2025 21:57

@TalkToTheHand123 we’re all going wild on here atm, so much positivity! I hope we can all keep this momentum going.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 27/09/2025 16:40

It is wild in here at the moment, we are so on it!

I went to Bootcamp this morning, it’s always a really tough workout but I am glad I went. I took ds out to get birthday presents for dh and we stopped for a snack, I had a gluten free toffee cake, it was nice but so sweet! Once I got home I was ravenous, had some cheese and chutney and cherry toms. We are using the raclette tonight, so have a selection of meats and some nice sides.

is it just me or has it gone really cold? I am tempted to put the heating on but it feels too early but it’s absolutely freezing here! Just coloured my hair and drinking a Sprite Zero and I’m standing here shivering!
