Jedi Nightingale's experience alarms me and has resonance. I think money is being milked by these so-called Tier 3 services, this one owned by an American 'Health' Company, and they have been given the power to control who loses or does not lose in terms of who gets the weight loss medication. We, as long term yo yo dieters know more about the obesity issue than anyone. I feel so let down, so marginalised so patronised. The NHS is seriously failing obese people. I have been waiting for three years for this course when in my area it was promised as a service but took two years later to roll it out and not only has it been difficult to get on, there is no injection being offered yet. To qualify for this More Life course I had to go on a Tier 2 dietary advice course for 12 weeks which I did and was still told Tier 3 was not rolled out. . That was in 2022. At least they were warm friendly and nice. But all diets do for me is hardwire my brain into craving. I eat on emotion and have done all my life. There is not only a genetic disposition to obesity in my family going back generations, on both sides, but the psychological predictors for obesity were always there - from growing up with a rageaholic alcoholic father and a mother who dod not protect us from him and used fattening carbohydrate food as a substitute for stability and love. After the fist session I felt so let down. When Tier 3 was fionally rolled out by the Commissioning Group in East Sussex I was told it was the ONLY way of getting Semaglutide (Wegovy) or Mounjaro (Tirzepetide) on the NHS. But now I am on the course I realise all the 'power' is with the NHS and the commissioning body and the people making money out of them- More Life, and no chance of getting the drug on the NHS. I frankly felt so utterly depressed after the first 'lesson'. Its just like the other course I was on -facilitated by someone who has absolutely no empathy. Slender, and could never have been obese (we obese people can tell). It is also geared to making us obsess about food -an absolute no no. We were told not everyone would get the weight loss drug, and it seems no one on this course will even have a chance of getting it . This despite three years of waiting to get on the course and for it to be rolled out, and yo yo dieting all our lives.
