Just that really!! Today and yesterday all I have done is eat!! No amount of food will fill me up, I'm constantly eating!! I'm fat and a yo yo Dieter. I know what to do but I just cannot get my head in it. I can't stop myself from eating. It's like an addiction. How can I pack this in!!!!!

You need to start by not aiming to be filled up. As soon as you aren't hungry then stop eating. If you aren't hungry, don't start eating. Best of luck.

AnotherVice · 10/02/2025 20:37

Some foods just are addictive. Stick to stuff you know you won't want to keep eating.

murraymcgill · 10/02/2025 20:38

@Gottheick25 Hi I was the same until I started Mounjaro now I'm 3 stone down since November its a life saver

Gottheick25 · 10/02/2025 20:39

This is the thing. I'm not necessarily hungry, I'm just not full?? I'm like a wild animal raiding the cupboards even after I've eaten my meal And then smashing slices of toast. It's like I just cannot stop.

I wish I could afford some weight loss jabs but I just can't. I know I can do it. I started at 20 stone last year, I lost 3 down to 17 and then since July last year it's crept back on and I'm now back to 19 stone. But I'm not surprised with the way I keep shoving stuff in my gob. It's like I have constant food thoughts.

Remove all junk from house. Bring in big bowl of fruit. Allow yourself fruit if you want to snack. It's probably habit more than anything else so try a healthy alternative. Start the day right and then keep going by that momentum.

Friedshed · 10/02/2025 20:42

How can you not save £100 a month for the injections? Just do some bank switches, cut back on treats, do some surveys. If you really wanted to do it, you could

murraymcgill · 10/02/2025 20:46

@Gottheick25 I'm sorry for even saying that I can nearly afford it I'm leaving myself with nothing but I'm saving on food but I just couldn't stop all i done was think about food I was my worse nightmare I hope things work out for you

Candlesandmatches · 10/02/2025 20:48

Protein. It keeps you feeling full up and really does reduce the food noise.
So a good protein filled breakfast. Aim for 120g of protein a day

MrTiddlesTheCat · 10/02/2025 20:55

I was the same until I started a healthy eating programme through my non-UK health service. The part that made the biggest difference for me was eating at fixed times and having planned snacks. It literally turned off the drive to eat constantly.

So for me weekdays look like:

7.00 am breakfast
10.00 am small snack
1.00 pm lunch
4.00 pm small snack
7.00 pm dinner

To begin with you don't even have to worry about what you're eating or how much. You should focus on eating at those times (or adjusted to fit your day, but only 3-4 hours between eating). Once you've got that under your belt you can look at what you're eating and portion sizes as you'll feel much more in control.

Ihatejanuary78 · 10/02/2025 20:57

Greek yoghurt in the evenings with nuts and fruit is so filling.
it’s all about mindset though which is why it’s so hard!

I really cant afford to that. I don't work at the moment and I get a disability benefit and really feeling the pinch at the moment especially as my rent has just been increased. Logically I would save money on food of I would stop bloody eating.

It's weird, I can have really good weeks and be so disciplined and lose 2-3lb and then it's like I get complacent or bored and skip back to old habits. I think I boredom eat and comfort eat. Hence why I've ballooned to this size I am now. I tell myself I need to stop but it's like a switch in my head just clicks and I can't stop myself from eating and eating! I do prioritize protein and I weigh and calorie county main meals. It seems to be in the evenings where I just go absolutely crazy

Sorry to jump on this thread. Do you think the idea is to eat at those times even if you’re not hungry? I graze allll day, or don’t eat at all. So having specific times sounds like a good starting point for me. But do you eat something small even if not hungry (I’m never hungry!)/don’t want to?

MrTiddlesTheCat · 10/02/2025 21:06

If you're losing control in the evenings then you're not eating enough earlier in the day.

hobbledyhoy · 10/02/2025 21:07

What is it you're eating?

If it's processed/sugar laden it'll spike blood sugar and send you on a binge, whereas high fat/protein likely to satiate you

Yes. Sometimes I find it hard because I don't feel hungry, but as I was told, if I could trust my feelings around food I wouldnt be the weight I am.

It doesn't have to be large. Snack could be a ryvita with a slice of cheese (my default morning snack) or a banana. But eat something.

Yes it's the evenings I'm binge eating but not because I feel overly hungry. It's hard to explain. My brain just can't stop itself.

I think you could be right. I may have my meal and then I'll have a little treat like a small chocolate bar and the that seems to send me mental and then I'm eating more choc, crisps, (that I buy for the kids and pack ups) 🫣 then I'm making toast and it's just gets ridiculous until I feel sick. It's like until I've got that point of sickness and shame that I can't stop.

Commit yourself to a walk with a friend or a yoga class or a swim. Time spent doing that is time not eating.

Concentrate on getting protein (nuts, beans, lean meat, fish, seeds, eggs etc) and treat yourself to a gorgeous big plate of salad or veg with it with raw or roasted - lots of colours & herbs & olive oil... Honestly allow yourself massive portions of say cucumber, raw carrot, celery, crunchy lettuce, coriander, pumpkin & sunflower seeds with runny poached eggs or tin of sardines - quick to make & delish! Big bowl of organic porridge oats made with water & milk & maybe the odd raisin thrown in to sweeten it up. Allow yourself as much fruit & veg & protein as you like. Combine with a bit of movement and hey presto, you will feel less hungry & your body shape will improve.

Concentrate on packing your diet with so much good stuff that no room for the processed stuff.

This is how I cracked my compulsive eating. Not straight away, it took a year or so, with lapses. But ultimately it was set meals and somehow resetting the psychological limit for food: only 2 biscuits at a time, I slice of cake, 2 rounds of bread and so on.

hobbledyhoy · 10/02/2025 21:28

Yeah I can have the same issue, so do most people. As soon as anything processed or sugary passes my lips, my body craves more, the best way I find is to completely avoid it.

Intermittent fasting has been a complete game changer for me, that and reading ultra processed people. It's not lack of willpower in the main, but the shit they put in the food. Supermarket bread is a biggie, that's why you can probably polish off 4 slices and it doesn't touch the sides. Very interesting read. Makes you realise the food supply chain is there for profit not to provide nourishment.

Protein
I say this on every thread where the op is craving food.
Your body will have craving if you don't eat enough protein and you must eat it everyday.
My cravings stopped over night when i reintroduced meat back into my diet.
Also no starvation diets.
Plus exercise(gentle walking) fresh air, fluids and plenty of sleep
Cut right back on caffeine and alcohol.
Try this for a week and see how you feel.

Yes this is it. I can eat four slices of toast and still want more!! Same with sweets and crisps. It does me in and I find myself being unable to stop

I do try to get enough protein. I have protein with every meal and I try to fill up on veggies and less nutrients dense foods at my mealtimes. It seems to be the evenings where I'm craving sweet food and then I just go crazy and binge.
