Just that really!! Today and yesterday all I have done is eat!! No amount of food will fill me up, I'm constantly eating!! I'm fat and a yo yo Dieter. I know what to do but I just cannot get my head in it. I can't stop myself from eating. It's like an addiction. How can I pack this in!!!!!

Then I'd recommend reading the Fast 800 and ultra processed people.

How can you not save £100 a month for the injections? Just do some bank switches, cut back on treats, do some surveys. If you really wanted to do it, you could

Do you live in the real world? £100 a month is a lot for some families. When my DD was a baby it would have been absolutely impossible to save this sort of money. Many families are still living like this with no spare cash

Op why don't you join some insta pages which compares calories in different foods. It's mind-blowing how you can eat either a few chocolates and a can of red coke or a massive grilled chicken salad, loads of fruit and some Greek salad for the same calories. Eat the latter and you will feel like you have eaten loads plus you won't be starving and hour later

AutumnFroglets · 10/02/2025 21:35

I have the cravings at night, after dinner, as well. It's like I go feral and if it doesn't move then I eat it. Since I've already eaten dinner should I aim for a protein shake, and if so, which do you recommend?

Greek yogurt not greek salad

OP you might find this book useful. It's ages since I read it so I can't remember the details, but I do remember your eating pattern being one of the ones covered. It's to do with which neurotransmitter(s) you're low in - that explains specific eating/craving patterns. Once you know which neurotransmitters you're low in, you can take certain amino acid supplements that you need for your body to make those neurotransmitters. The theory being that once your neurotransmitters are at the right level, the cravings will subside.

Thanks for jogging my memory about this book - I'm going to revisit it for myself.

Springadorable · 10/02/2025 21:49

What time do you have your last meal and then what time do you go to bed? Can you shift your day so that you start eating later in the day and say have dinner at 8.30pm and then bed at 9pm? It wouldn't suit everyone but if you are pretty good until after dinner maybe just getting rid of that downtime would swing it for you.

Of course not everyone is in a position to afford MJ or similar. Christ alive. It's a lot of money to find (and most people who do pay for meds are paying more than £100 a month)

stayathomer · 10/02/2025 21:55

I’d say two things- start making yourself drink water (not ridiculous amounts!) and get busy doing something you can’t eat while you’re doing. At night time for a while even go to bed early to stop you thinking about food and listen to the radio, an audiobook or podcast to get you to sleep. You just need to break the habit. Best of luck!

Th4 truth is she would likely save 25 pounds a week on food, the cost is hugely offset by the reduction in food bill. It’s just 3 pounds odd a day, and she is likely spending more than that on sweets and crisps. I think the poster was meaning that.

howver the price goes up as you go up the doses, but even then she’d maybe just need to find an extra tenner a week. It is doable for a lot more people when you consider the cost offset by the reduction in food bill.

Notmycircusnotmyotter · 10/02/2025 22:56

You're probably not drinking enough water.

If you don't have the food in the house you can't eat it.

But she would still need to replace some of that food with healthier alternatives. It's the way the other poster posted with scorn and faux incredulity in their tone. You can guarantee that person has never been on the bones of their arse before.

It's weird, I can have really good weeks and be so disciplined and lose 2-3lb and then it's like I get complacent or bored and skip back to old habits. I think I boredom eat and comfort eat. Hence why I've ballooned to this size I am now. I tell myself I need to stop but it's like a switch in my head just clicks and I can't stop myself from eating and eating! I do prioritize protein and I weigh and calorie county main meals. It seems to be in the evenings where I just go absolutely crazy

There's your answer: boredom and comfort. What's behind both of those? Try to tackle the root causes of your over-eating. Easier said than done, but find something to do and find ways to give yourself emotional comfort.

soupyspoon · 11/02/2025 07:59

Springadorable · 10/02/2025 20:35

You need to start by not aiming to be filled up. As soon as you aren't hungry then stop eating. If you aren't hungry, don't start eating. Best of luck.

People dont eat because they're hungry!

OP I think its the weather, all I want to do is fill up and be warm.

Its awful

Clear Minds Hypnotherapy has resolved Binge eating for me, 40 years after I first asked a Dr for help. Best £12.99 I've ever spent.

SeasonsInMissouri · 11/02/2025 08:01

@Gottheick25 you're describing what sounds very much like Binge Eating Disorder - and on this thread you're getting diet advice, which is the worst thing for someone suffering disordered eating. Have a look on the BEAT website, there is a helpline and there are resources but it's extremely difficult to conquer and important to remember that the binges you describe are not a failure or a sign of weakness or greed but a compulsion that feels impossible to fight. Any attempts to follow diet advice push you deeper into the binge-restrict cycle where each one feeds off the other and worsens the behaviour. I'm sorry that you are struggling so much and hope you can find compassion for yourself too.

How narrow minded. Some people are struggling to eat at all. Your life doesn't equal everyone's life.

she was not talking in general. She was asking the op specifically. The use of the word “you” clearly shows this. As the op can afford several pounds a day on binge food, crisps, chocolate etc, it is a valid question. Cut that out and she can likely affford the drugs.

blobby10 · 11/02/2025 08:40

@Gottheick25 I have the same issues and the only way I can control my eating (its easier now I live on my own) is not to buy the food in the first place. Last week I was skint so lived on what was already in my cupboards and when it was gone, it didn't get replaced. Repetitive meals of jacket potatoes with tuna mayo or pasta and tuna, or beans on toast, or jacket potato and beans.

However it does mean that every couple of weeks when I DO go to the shops for milk and fruit, its too easy to lose control and head down the chocolate/cake/crisps aisle in Lidl but if I can avoid that and stick to my shopping list it is OK. It takes about a month of very limited 'treats' before the cravings stop but if the crap isn't there to binge on, its easier to not do it.

This definitely isn't a fail safe solution - last weekend I binged so much on chocolate and biscuits bought 'because my DD was coming home' (for about nine hours overnight!) that I made myself ill. But theres nothing crap left in the house now so fingers crossed................................Grin

@MrTiddlesTheCat and @TammyJones

The examples given on my healthy eating plan for snacks are:

  • 1 apple/pear/orange (60-75 kcal)
  • 1 banana (100 kcal)
  • 1 dl cottage cheese with 1 dl berries (100 kcal)
  • 2 dl natural yogurt with 1 dl berries or 1/2 piece of fruit (125 kcal)
  • 10 natural nuts (100 kcal)
  • 1 slice of crispbread with 1 tsp margarine, 1 slice of cheese and pepper slices (110 kcals)
  • 2 thin crispbreads with 2 tsp marg, 1 boiled egg (130 kcals)
  • 2 thin crispbreads with 1/2 avocado (140 kcals)

You should be aiming for 1 or 2 of these spaced out between your meals during the day. I have banana and a little custard (proper stuff not birds) as that's what my dietician recommended to me, to turn off the uncontrolled chocolate eating.

Some of those cals look low, for example 2 crispbreads and half an avocado are closer to 200 cals. As is the crisp breads marg and egg.

Kattuccino · 11/02/2025 10:16

Have you thought about taking a Chromium supplement to help balance your blood sugar and therefore help minimise cravings?

I don't have any personal experience of taking them, but my colleague at work talks about how well they've worked for her.

I took them straight off the info sheet I was given. But I've now checked the the Department of Food Administration figures and they seem about right. A small avocado is 170 kcal (255 kcal for a medium), so 85 kcals (127) for half and the thin crispbreads we have here are 21 kcals each.

toomanyjobsforonewoman · 11/02/2025 11:12

Mounjaro will cost you less than what you are currently spending on food . I speak from experience as I've lost 11 stone in two years ( half of the time not on mounjaro just on willpower and having learned a new way of eating that suited me from the mounjaro so it had become a habit of that makes sense )

RedWineSuper · 11/02/2025 16:32

I agree that you have a binge eating disorder. I had one too, for decades, since I was a teenager.

The thing that helped me was a podcast series called Brain Over Binge. There's a book as well, but the podcast is free to download.

It was honestly life changing. Over time, I've healed my relationship with food. I've been a healthy weight for about 8 years now. I eat what I fancy and feel free around food. I model balanced eating habits to my children. I can't recommend it enough.
