But she would still need to replace some of that food with healthier alternatives. It's the way the other poster posted with scorn and faux incredulity in their tone. You can guarantee that person has never been on the bones of their arse before.

When you're on the jabs or cutting out quite a lot of unnecessary food it is not replaced by something else because you're simply not eating the quantity that you used to

I used to go down entire aisles of the supermarket which were then irrelevant to me, its like I had entered into this alien world where not only do you buy very little because you're only eating what you need (and in fact in deficit) but the types of food, completely unprocessed are dirt cheap compared to packaged things

Your food spend goes right down

I honestly think that they are putting more things into food and drinks lately, to make them addictive.

They're like a drug.

Eg if I don't have a bag of crisps for a couple of weeks I don't think about them.

But if I do have a bag of crisps.

The next day, I will have such a huge craving to have another bag of crisps.

It's a similiar feeling to when a drug user takes a drug

I think that they are putting addictive chemicals in food.

Another vote for intermittent fasting. I never thought I'd be able to do it, but am finding it relatively easy. Do some research DrJason Fung and Gin Stephen's explain it well. It's do do with hormones and insulin spikes not calorie in/out

Briannaco · 11/02/2025 17:53

I did intermittent fasting and I didn't lose any weight at all.

The ingredients are on the packaging. What do you think they are lacing your food with, crack? I can assure you, I have no taste for crisps. Cheese sure, but crisps do nothing for me. So if they are lacing it with crack I’m clearly immune 😂

Not just crisps.

Processed foods.

Yeah absolutely I think companies put chemicals into then, to get people addicted to the food.

So they keep coming back for more and buying more.

It benefits the food businesses.

I saw someone in a news article the other day . She said that she has become completely addicted to diet coke.

To the point where she couldn't cope for one day without it.

Something that’s made a big difference to me recently is eating vegetables before each meal. Even a salad. I’ve been watching a biochemist on YouTube, calls herself The Glucose Goddess. She has 10 easy hacks to prevent glucose spikes and the rollercoaster they cause.

What I do now is either munch a raw carrots- for a crunchy texture- or anything I have available, while I’m cooking. Then a small bowl of lettuce, once I start eating the meal I have the veg, followed by the protein and then the cards.

Yesterday I had a few mushrooms with 2 scrambled eggs before going to the gym and I wasn’t hungry until 3pm. In the past I would have had a pastry with my coffee after the gym, then toast mid morning before lunch and a snack before dinner followed by a snack before bed.

Briannaco · 11/02/2025 18:20

I also now try to munch on broccoli instead of sugary snacks.

OP you've got addicted to munching on something constantly.

So munch on broccoli or carrots. It'll fill your belly up.

I agree that you have a binge eating disorder. I had one too, for decades, since I was a teenager.

The thing that helped me was a podcast series called Brain Over Binge. There's a book as well, but the podcast is free to download.

It was honestly life changing. Over time, I've healed my relationship with food. I've been a healthy weight for about 8 years now. I eat what I fancy and feel free around food. I model balanced eating habits to my children. I can't recommend it enough.

Another vote for this book (not
listened to the podcast). I still overeat at times but don’t binge in the way you describe anymore and am much happier for it.

I heard this years ago - it was connected to the start of the anti smoking movement and 'they' couldn't have people not addicted to nicotine so they put addictive substances into processed food. Hence the addictions to fizzy drinks, chocolate, crisps etc.

However I have no idea who 'they' are, nor where the rumour came and it was during the early 1990s which is apparently a long time ago !!
