Start tomorrow mentality

How do you get out of the I'll start tomorrow mentality? I'm forever starting a diet/healthy eating tomorrow, and of course, when tomorrow comes I delay it to the next day, and the next... I've been doing this for years, and I'm now obese! Please help me 🙏

I’m exactly the same

but today something interesting happened - my daughter asked me to do a 2k park run with her and I really wasn’t keen. I was tired and cold and couldn’t be bothered

but we went. Anyway we ran it and I came home and realised I wanted to try a little more

but I needed my headphones and couldn’t find them

and then it started raining so I told my dH that I’ll just go later

but I saw it was drizzling all day

so I thought - well if I don’t go now I won’t go today or tomorrow or this week

so I thought I may as well go now. Got my trainers on, wore a hoodie and just ran. It wasn’t a long run or a fast one - but I did it. And honestly I’m so proud of myself. I am now planning to do more runs this week

you can also do it

I'll hold your hand when I say this. You have to actually want it.

It's not about a perfect day, it's about a good week in a calorie deficit. There's no tomorrow, it's about right here and now. Ate your weight in mini eggs? Log them in a calorie tracking app. Log every single last calorie. And go from there.

Because it's not about what you eat, it's what they add up to for weight loss. You can eat 1200 calories of mini eggs and you'll still lose weight if you're in a deficit. You actually have to want to track and lose the weight and until you're honest with yourself, it'll always be tomorrow because tomorrow is more comfortable.

@Namechangedforthis25 and @SleepDeprivedButAlive Thank you both for your replies, I am going to download a coach to 5k app, and be more vigilant with logging my calories!

I feel you. I do exactly the same and each time I say I'll start tomorrow and have one last binge today. I lost 3 stone from feb - Sept last year then went on hols and the real made an appearance and since then I've put 2 stone back and hate myself more than I can describe. Yes you need to want it but crawling out of that pit to do a day is sometimes impossible even when you're in tears and desperately wanting. I feel you and wish I had an easy answer. Good luck lovely x

I struggled a lot with this as a teen, young adult and into my 20s. What shifted for me in my thinking was making the decision that if I eat more than I was expecting/intending at any time, I was return to my "normal" eating at the very next meal.

This has helped me maintain a healthy weight and a balanced attitude towards eating for the past 10+ years.
