Hi. Feeling really deflated today as its nearly the end of Jan and I've stopped and started my healthy eating numerous times already since New Year.

I want to lose a stone...I know what to do but just can't stop caving in and I'm cross at myself. How do you buckle down and power through? Any tips much appreciated.

@Jenstam solidarity with you, I have had a slightly better week this week but I still have eaten more than my calories every single day. And that's after doing all the right things, I've meal planned and have stuck to it properly, I planned all my lunches and snacks as well as main meals. I haven't slashed my calories really low or anything dramatic. I'm just craving sugar really desperately and I can't seem to stop myself. 😢 like you I only have a stone or so to lose, but it's a significant enough amount that means I actually realised yesterday that I cannot remember the last time I got dressed and thought 'I look nice in this' - it was probably the summer, if not longer.

I've not been exercising due to illness and I think that's contributing so I am hoping that I can start some very gentle jogging this week. And failing that I am going to have to go cold turkey on sugar for a bit.

I hear you! Craving the rubbish is definitely a 'thing'. Ifind if you can get through the first week/10 days if really gets easier. Also i just cant keep it in the house because if it is here i will eat it and then buy more to replace and eat that as well! Good luck OP you can do this. Funny how no-one ever craves lettuce isnt it?!

I'm with you.
I did really well for a week or so after Christmas then got a stinking cold and my resolve crumbled.

Thanks loads and wow didn't know there was a thread for diet failed again. I just feel in hibernation mode and need food and this is no good. I plan it, I want it yet I'm making a pigs ear of it and today is the day my head is getting good shake!!

Could have written this myself

I managed to stave off the calling to the kitchen last night with some self care
Face mask
Legs shaved
Nails filed buff and condition treatment on
Teeth brushed flossed and poked lol
That puts me off eating anything for a bit

I hear you!
I’m going on holiday next week. When I booked the holiday, I gave myself a target of losing 1.5 stone in 6 months - should have been easy.
How much have I lost? Bugger all!
It’s really depressing.

mamaduckbone · 26/01/2025 12:47

My problem is there's still Christmas chocolate left over both at home and at work. Until that's gone there's probably no point. I might just binge the rest of it today just so it's gone. I managed to scoff 5 Lindor balls yesterday....could probably finish the box today. I can do healthy meals, it's the snacking that's my downfall. I'm the heaviest I've been in 10 years and it's horrible.

Sunflowers098 · 26/01/2025 14:26

I have tried and failed to diet many many times.
This time I have 2 differences.

  1. I am doing a fairly tough physical challenge in a few months and the people I'm doing it with are normal weight range. I won't be able to do it if I'm overweight. We're training for it currently so I'm determined not to let them down
  2. I have got a personal trainer once a week at the gym. Weight training and a nutrition programme. I'm determined not to let my PT down.
I am accountable to my PT and my friends so I have to succeed! This is genuinely the first time in a decade I've made any progress. I'm really excited at the prospect of being normal weight and fit!! Oh and I've done dry jan which has helped with calories and will power not to snack The PT is expensive but if it gets me into size 10 jeans I'd pay anything so I figure it's money well spent. I've listened to the FitnessChef and Atomic Habits on audible. Really useful. If I can do this anyone can!
