Apparently I look too thin?

RolliPop · 14/01/2025 21:16

I do not think I do but several people have made comments!
Funny how they never told me I was too fat though.

Am 5ft5 and 9st.

When I look at myself I do still see a large belly but in reality although there is fat stored there it's mostly excess skin from losing over 8 stone and no amount of loss will change that

A few people have said I need to stop losing weight and I have now! I hit my 9st goal and have been maintaining.

But it's upsetting they have said that.
I feel I look healthy.
Am a size 10!!

Society has a really warped view on what healthy looks like, you look great Op, and like you have a healthy BMI.

PrincessofWells · 15/01/2025 19:16

Congratulations. Cycling is great for gaining muscle tone but it depends upon your age. If you are at or past the menopause you will gain more benefit from weights rather than cardio stuff. Weights help strengthen and keep strong your bones which with us women sometimes take a hammering, more so than men.

Pickingmyselfup · 15/01/2025 20:48

You have skinny legs so that's what people will focus on. I am the opposite, chunky legs and skinny top half and face so I also get the "wasting away" comments even if I've gained a few unwanted pounds.

I just smile and nod now because there is no danger of me ever getting too skinny, I struggle to keep it off because I like eating and drinking wine!

You should be really proud of a 8st loss, that's incredible!

Disturbia81 · 15/01/2025 23:47

God I wish I had legs like yours!
You look great, my next step is building muscle to help with the loose skin.

My legs have always been slim (compared to my body!) even at 18st.

I was like a comical apple on a stick.

if you feel great and energetic, that is the most important thing. I also lost a lot of weight so am talking as a peer, not a critic.
People who have lost a lot of weight to get to a certain size will have a different look to them to people who always were a smaller size. This is because of the fat distribution, loose skin, effects on hair, skin and face of long term dieting. I would say your legs do look very skinny in proportion to your stomach. Some exercise would be amazing and a healthy thing to do, and will balance out your whole figure.

I'm extremely happy with my figure as it is My stomach is skin and no amount of exercise will get rid of it. I can tone my legs up, yes but I live in wide leg trousers so you can't actually see them (I don't ever wear tight stuff) and I don't think I'd ever work out enough to make them in proportion with my belly because of the skin.
I'm not worrying about that at all, I need to learn to be happy with my body now and the massive changes and excess skin.

You look great and just right! Your face still looks good too (jealous!). The excess skin will slowly shrink itself away.

No one should be commenting on your weight anyway. I have an eating disorder and I know I’m too thin and my face looks dreadful! People do tell me not to lose any more weight and it’s not helpful, it’s not like I can just say OK then and stop!

Pancakeorcrepe · 17/01/2025 08:35

@RolliPop I’m glad you are feeling great. That, plus health, truly is the only thing that matters. The working-out “advice” for your legs is for health and not for looks, it doesn’t matter if you wear wide legged trousers all the time. Muscle is very important for women, it makes us stronger and makes our bones more resilient. It will be a great help to keep your mobility as you age. And also it is a fabulous way to maintain your weight loss because it allows you to eat more nutrients and stay the same weight. I think the skin on your stomach will still settle a bit more over time. It doesn’t sound like it is bothering you, but if it does, you can look at fasting because it really works wonders with excess skin. Congratulations on your amazing achievement!

wheo · 17/01/2025 08:49

Ignore them they are jealous. It's so fucking rude for people to comment on your body like that, imagine telling someone they look too fat???!??

You look fabulous xx

coolkatt · 17/01/2025 15:26

I have lost 4 stone for the first time in my life of being overweight, now 9'11 bmi of 24, I'm 5'3, so size 12-14.
I have come off ten years of tramadol and amitryptiline. Not taken them for months. Can actually run/jog for once for exercise.
All anyone can say oooh don't lose any more, please stop now, oh u look so skinny, r u still dieting??! . (Again, 12-14 uk, hardly size zero) Nothing like ooh well done, wow amazing about ur meds, wow u must be feeling so much more healthy (I soo do). All about looks which I feel is soo shallow of this country in general. I don't care about looks as much as being able to sleep/work/manage without crippling back pain.

coolkatt · 17/01/2025 15:29

Was actually told I don't "suit" being thin.

IslandPier · 17/01/2025 15:42

Well done @RolliPop , no you don’t look to thin, you look good. I am same height and weight as you and also have slim legs. I still have fat on my tummy and big boobs.

That's actually really sad :( Well done, you've done amazingly.

You look great and you certainly don’t need to head off to the gym to change the way you look or to “balance out your figure!” 😁 It’s interesting as if a size 14/16 woman put her photo on mumsnet and asked for body feedback, I can’t imagine any critique on the shape of her legs.. but as your are in the slimmer end of the BMI scale, it seems it’s open season even on this thread 🙈 Your legs look great and you could lose a few pounds more if you wanted to and you still wouldn’t be in the “too thin” category either.

toomanydicksonthedancefloor1 · 17/01/2025 16:35

Having seen the photo of your extremely lovely fave (what gorgeous skin) I feel I can safely say they're all extremely jealous!

toomanydicksonthedancefloor1 · 17/01/2025 16:36

Face not fave

terrifiedchicken · 17/01/2025 16:58

Those lines starting from your lips look similar my friend got after loosing weight. She gained some weight and the lines vanished.

EveryOtherNameTaken · 17/01/2025 17:11

You look slim and fit, not thin.

Ignore what are jealous snipes.

I've always had those. Even at my biggest, so that's just my face 🤣🤣

Just as proof. 🤣🤣🤣

This is me at about 14 stone. So nothing to do with me losing too much.

But thanks for pointing that lifelong insecurity out! 🤣

I feel I look healthy.

What does healthy look like? Do you have X-ray eyes? How fast can you run a mile.
Weight does not define health. Do you have strong thigh muscles? Can you walk a brisk mile (lets face it most of us have no inclination to run one)?

Clearly in some ways weight does define health. She's lost 8 stone and now she's in a healthy BMI range. So her weight does make her look healthy.

InkHeart2024 · 17/01/2025 17:24

You look flipping great. I had a friend who was a lot bigger than me in my early 20s. I lose weight to 10 stone (so still in the top range of healthy) and she told me I looked gaunt. It's jealousy half the time.

I lost 6st in my 60s, and there’s no way my skin will shrink back, so I have saggy skin on my arms, legs and abdomen. I consider it shining evidence of my successful weight loss journey, not a disfigurement :-)

That's how I'm trying to frame it. It's not worth the surgery.
Well done on your loss!
