I’m 5 fucking stone overweight.

Huge, uncomfortable, feel disgusting, look disgusting, it’s make or break now.

Ive made up my mind.

im almost through the menopause, the 5 stone has attached itself throughout perimeno over the last 4-5 years.

I have tried I have failed multiple times. I can starve, weight watchers, slimming world, MFP, fasting, vegan, vegetarian, meal plan, walk more, move more… I’ve done them all, everyone of them over the last 30 years. I’m still huge.

Peri meno has proven impossible, utterly utterly impossible.
I could drop a stone doing any of the above over 4-5 months before hormones fucked off. Now with very careful changes, the weight WILL NOT BUDGE at all no matter what I do. Not even one LB.

MFP is a great little APP, I get on with it well because I like the nutritional information that it gives.
I like to track my nutritional intake, cholesterol etc, calories & fat secondary. I have 1200 cals a day,

I went to bed last night starving, I’m hungry now, feel like shit.

Pffftt and GAHHHHHH! I hate being so overweight and overwhelmed with the mammoth challenge ahead of me every single day.

What can I do??????

I am like this op. Tried mounjaro and unfortunately had terrible side effects, but my god for the 3 weeks I took it it worked. But it wasn't worth the sickness and headaches. And I put all the weight back on after.

m00rfarm · 02/01/2025 18:54

I am three to four stone heavier than I should be. I play tennis for two hours 6 days a week (training, socials, tournaments and open play), I play pickleball 3 times a week (two hours each session - mix of tournament and social) and I do tap dancing once a week for an hour (which is totally exhausting). I don't drink alcohol, I am relatively careful what I eat, and when I was on holiday/in the UK for four weeks, I did no exercise at all, and put on only 1 kilo. How can I lose weight? Would Mounjaro work? I have high blood pressure and fatty liver (as well as osteoporosis). So losing weight would be good for everything.

Post menopausal women need a lot less calories than other women. Low carb, low calorie, move more is really the only way to go.

That’s an opinion. Not a fact. I’m post menopausal and it’s not true for me.

what is important is maintaining and increasing muscle mass.

Searchingforthelight · 02/01/2025 18:54

Yet another vote for Mounjaro
Say goodbye to this whole situation
You still have to calorie count etc but it supports you to do just that
Takes away the craving, the compulsion to consume
There's a reason why medical journals are saying this is the biggest game changer of our time

Cost neutral if you are prone to a weekly takeaway, supermarket sandwiches at work etc, about £25-£30 max per week if you take 5 doses from each pen

Just do it!

Ask your doctors about weight loss surgery? Seriously, if you really have tried all those things, properly, and nothing has worked. Or the injections? They do make you less hungry.

It's incredible difficult almost impossible to get surgery or injections on the nhs I did all the counselling etc not to be told I wasn't heaven enough and didn't have diabetes so that's it

Yes Mounjaro would work!

worriedMiL33 · 02/01/2025 18:55

@ThewrathofBethDutton are you averse to trying injections?

TonTonMacoute · 02/01/2025 18:56

You are obviously monitoring your nutrient levels on MFP, but protein is best for stopping the hunger pangs. As you seem to be vegan you can look at putting more pulses, whole grains and things like quinoa, but there is nothing like animal proteins for making you feel fuller for longer. Could you add some eggs to your diet?

Oddsquadnumber1 · 02/01/2025 18:56

Try eating better not less to begin with. Build better habits. Read about insulin resistance, my weight was stuck for years before learning I had this. Then dropped 3kg within a month once sortingnout my blood sugar

ZZGirl · 02/01/2025 18:56

What others said, you're not eating enough. I'm not a fan of MFP, I like Nutracheck. I'd anticipate you're allowed at least 1700 cals a day.

Ruthietuthie · 02/01/2025 18:57

Honestly, woman, just get the injections. I am now 60 lb down, without dieting consciously - just naturally wanting to make better choices, eat less. And it was EASY - I had no side-effects, no hunger.
Why torture yourself?

ShineyMoonChild · 02/01/2025 18:57

1200 sounds too low. I'm pretty sure you'd still loose weight by having 1600 a day.

Have you tried slimming world? ...it's not based on calorie counting and the portions are big!

KitsyWitsy · 02/01/2025 18:57

Mounjaro or keto. Don’t make it so hard for yourself when there are better ways now.

13 weeks, reversed diabetes, lowered blood pressure to normal and lost 2 and a half stone. No longer obese. On Mounjaro.

Moonlight222 · 02/01/2025 18:58

Mounjaro

I’ve lost 5st 7lb since May, changed my life, we’ll worth every penny

Jaimenotjamie · 02/01/2025 18:59

I dont @Searchingforthelight. I eat when I’m hungry and that’s about it. 2 stone down in 3 months (5 to lose total). I guess when I get nearer goal I’ll maybe need to but I enjoy just not thinking about food that much and certainly don’t want to obsess over calories!

ThewrathofBethDutton · 02/01/2025 19:00

Im not vegan, I’m 98% plant based, I do eat eggs. A life saver!

If you are surviving on soups and fruit at 1200 calories then I'm not surprised that you're starving! There are tools out there for calculating a calorie deficit for you and I expect that you'll find it should be higher than 1200 calories, especially if you are 5 stone or so overweight.
I'd highly recommend that you shifted to a high protein diet, as protein is far more satisfying and filling then trying to reduce your carbs and increase fruit/veg. Still definitely get lots of fruit and veg in your diet as it's a great source of fibre which will also help you feel fuller. However protein should be the main focus of each meal.

Ruthietuthie · 02/01/2025 19:01

@Searchingforthelight, with @Jaimenotjamie, I also haven't counted a single calorie on Monjaro. I just ate when hungry and ate what I fancied, but ensuring that I included protein in each meal. And I got right down to goal that way. Never thought about calories, definitely never counted them.

babyproblems · 02/01/2025 19:01

I would say eat more and move more. Dramatically increase your moving. Have you tried doing it with a personal trainer? It might really benefit you. Starving yourself isn’t going to be a sustainable or successful journey. You need fuel and nourishment for your body to function and be healthy and that includes it being able to function at a healthy weight. I would aim for movement, high heart rate as often as you can manage, and lots of food but nutritionally awesome food. Forget fad stuff like weight watchers etc. Focus on your lifestyle overall. Good luck x

Choux · 02/01/2025 19:01

Today you have eaten watermelon and tomato soup. Where is the protein to fill you up?

BuffaloCauliflower · 02/01/2025 19:02

OP have you asked a doctor for blood tests to see if there’s anything additional going on? Thyroid etc?

ThewrathofBethDutton · 02/01/2025 19:03

This Mounjaro seems very popular, HOWEVER, what are the long term health considerations, what does it do to menopausal bones etc? Is there any data/evidence around this do we know?

OP posts:
52for2025 · 02/01/2025 19:03

I hear you.

Are you getting protein? The BHF has info about how to work out how many g of protein you need a day. I can’t eat carb if I’ve getting enough protein and veg/fruit a day on only 1200 kcal as there just isn’t any calories left.

Bluesandwhites · 02/01/2025 19:05

Well done OP. Do you have any protein shakes in, or a banana you could slice, and eat slowly?

Dagnabit · 02/01/2025 19:06

Another vote for mounjaro - I understand having concerns but there is plenty of information to google. You just need to make sure you prioritise protein and get plenty of vitamins and minerals, either in food and/or a supplement. It’s a life changer and not cheating! 😆
