It’s only day 2 and I could eat my own arm I’m so hungry.

I’m 5 fucking stone overweight.

Huge, uncomfortable, feel disgusting, look disgusting, it’s make or break now.

Ive made up my mind.

im almost through the menopause, the 5 stone has attached itself throughout perimeno over the last 4-5 years.

I have tried I have failed multiple times. I can starve, weight watchers, slimming world, MFP, fasting, vegan, vegetarian, meal plan, walk more, move more… I’ve done them all, everyone of them over the last 30 years. I’m still huge.

Peri meno has proven impossible, utterly utterly impossible.
I could drop a stone doing any of the above over 4-5 months before hormones fucked off. Now with very careful changes, the weight WILL NOT BUDGE at all no matter what I do. Not even one LB.

MFP is a great little APP, I get on with it well because I like the nutritional information that it gives.
I like to track my nutritional intake, cholesterol etc, calories & fat secondary. I have 1200 cals a day,

I went to bed last night starving, I’m hungry now, feel like shit.

Pffftt and GAHHHHHH! I hate being so overweight and overwhelmed with the mammoth challenge ahead of me every single day.

What can I do??????

Yes why do people keep saying 1200 calories is too low? It certainly isn’t, you have to create a deficit in order to lose weight: plenty of people sustain themselves on far fewer calories. Look at the Fast 800 as just one example of a very low calorie diet with huge health benefits.

i actually read 1200 in OPs original post and wondered if that was actually too many as it’s arguably enough to prompt a real hunger still, whereas fasting and doing a keto type diet likely to be easier

I am very slim, 5’4, have a sedentary job and don’t do much cardio. I don’t know how many calories I burn a day but I eat a LOT more than 1200.

Why don’t I put on weight?

Because the human body is a complex system, not a simple one (like a car engine, for example). Gut health, muscle mass, hormone balance all have to be taken into account. I clearly burn more calories than someone else, otherwise I would be fatter.

That’s why these ‘calculations’ of TDEE are a load of bollocks.

You are not most people though. If op is overweight and hungry on 1200 cals, it’s likely she will lose weight. Not many overweight people in famine stricken states are there?

It’s very much a personal thing. If I ate 1200 calories, I’d not lose an ounce. And I do loads of exercise and I’m tall.

This is exactly my point. All the ‘calculations’ are a load of rubbish because there are FAR more factors at play here.

You can’t have a sum that says ‘if I eat this I will definitely lose weight’. It depends on so many other things.

It also needs to be sustainable. If OP is hungry on 1200 calories a day, she might lose weight but she will put it all back on when she starts eating more because she is so miserable. It’s this yo-yo dieting that slows the metabolism and is the reason so many western people can’t lose weight.

Oh, and comparing the West to developing countries is like comparing apples and oranges.

But people didn’t used to have such struggles. People are eating more and more and more upf foods. It just wasn’t a problem prior to the 80s when convenience foods and snacks became the norm, couple that with less movement in daily life and there is the answer.

It’s pretty smug to come onto a thread from a very overweight person to let everyone know how slim you are despite eating loads and doing no exercise and then undermine advice to OP from people who have been or are in the same boat.

Yes bodies are complex and different people have different builds and some are lucky and don’t put on weight like you (despite sounding incredibly unhealthy), and others exercise and eat well and still struggle.

calorie deficit is the only way to lose weight and the amount of deficit will vary.

Mounjaro. Well worth £130 a month.

You barely feel hungry and have to remember to eat. It's bizarre, your brain just switches off to it.

It's expensive, but I've reasoned I was probably spending £100 a month minimum on wine and take aways anyway.

I was spending at least £25 a week on Greggs, KFC etc… 😳

Mounjaro has been life changing. I’ve lost nearly 2.5 stone so far. I do
still get hungry at times but the difference is, it’s a calmer hunger. Not that omg I need to stuff my face NOW hunger.

I’ve moved on to 10mg and the week goes:

Thursday am - jab.
Thursday night - bit sicky. Feeling like I’ve had a really big meal. Couldn’t eat if you paid me.
Friday - no appetite.
Friday night - bit sicky again.
Saturday, Sunday, Monday, Tuesday - not that fussed by food but mildly interested come mealtimes. Able to stop after small meal. Not fussed by sweet stuff.
Weds - getting more interested in food again. Starting to eye up the biscuit tin but able to resist easily.
Thursday - slightly more interested in food. Proper hungry for meals. Jab.

And so on.

Losing on average 2.5lbs a week but I’m not really being strict - I like eating out but am eating loads less.

You’ve totally missed my point.

The point is, it’s different for everyone because there are more factors than calories. It wasn’t a brag, just an illustration that explains why you can’t just use a formula.

Im not fat because I don’t try and don’t care, I feel very let down by my own body again if I’m honest.
I come from a family with weight issues. My cholesterol is raised which makes me furious

All this makes you the perfect candidate for Mounjaro. It doesn’t work just by suppressing appetite - in the same way it helps those with diabetes it changes your hormonal and insulin response.

This is why people like you (and me) likely can’t lose weight even though we don’t eat all that much. 3 months of Mounjaro and I’m 2 stone down. I still eat. My body now reacts differently.

You clearly won’t lose the weight ‘naturally’ - you never have before so why will you now?

OP I'd rethink those menus if I wanted to lose weight and keep it off. I'd massively increase veg- salads, roast and steamed veg, replace sausages and chips with fish or skinless chicken and baby potatoes baked in their jackets etc.

If you think a small sweet treat won't trigger sugar cravings, go for a 10 calorie fruit jelly or a mini milk for 30 cals, or a mini mochi but better to just have a piece of fruit or square of 70% dark chocolate.
