I’m 5 fucking stone overweight.

Huge, uncomfortable, feel disgusting, look disgusting, it’s make or break now.

Ive made up my mind.

im almost through the menopause, the 5 stone has attached itself throughout perimeno over the last 4-5 years.

I have tried I have failed multiple times. I can starve, weight watchers, slimming world, MFP, fasting, vegan, vegetarian, meal plan, walk more, move more… I’ve done them all, everyone of them over the last 30 years. I’m still huge.

Peri meno has proven impossible, utterly utterly impossible.
I could drop a stone doing any of the above over 4-5 months before hormones fucked off. Now with very careful changes, the weight WILL NOT BUDGE at all no matter what I do. Not even one LB.

MFP is a great little APP, I get on with it well because I like the nutritional information that it gives.
I like to track my nutritional intake, cholesterol etc, calories & fat secondary. I have 1200 cals a day,

I went to bed last night starving, I’m hungry now, feel like shit.

Pffftt and GAHHHHHH! I hate being so overweight and overwhelmed with the mammoth challenge ahead of me every single day.

What can I do??????

Mounjaro. Well worth £130 a month.

You barely feel hungry and have to remember to eat. It's bizarre, your brain just switches off to it.

It's expensive, but I've reasoned I was probably spending £100 a month minimum on wine and take aways anyway.

Your body thinks it’s starving. So every time you go on a low calorie diet your metabolism slows down further and you make the problem worse.

The injections may be the solution for you. They avoid this problem. Good luck

NeverHadHaveHas · 02/01/2025 18:03

What exercise are you doing in conjunction with dieting?

MyPearlMentor · 02/01/2025 18:03

Mounjaro. It’s life changing to not have food noise!

deademptyduck · 02/01/2025 18:08

For those talking about 1200 calories being too low - a lot depends on your height. My maintenance calories are only 1464 a day.. I work long days at a desk and it's hard to up the exercise Monday to Friday. To be in deficit to lose a lb a week I would have to be 500 calories less than 1200 which is obviously not feasible. For me Mounjaro has been life changing because I can manage on 1200 a day without constantly being starving.

dcbgr · 02/01/2025 18:08

There are many ways to lose weight but there are only two easy, effortless, painless, long-term ways to lose weight: surgery and injections.

worriedMiL33 · 02/01/2025 18:10

totally support pp's, Mounjaro

best prices

Kendodd · 02/01/2025 18:11

It's shit isn't it OP!
This is the reality though, if you want to lose weight (without drugs) just just have to live with near constant hunger. That's it. Despite what people might say, there's no way around it. You're not doing it wrong or some other bollocks, there's no special trick, you just have to suck up being hungry.

Donttellempike · 02/01/2025 18:11

Frugalityfromnowon · 02/01/2025 18:02

Low carb is the only way to go post menopause. Low carb, low calories, more movement.

This advice is not going to work long term. Every time you go on a low calorie diet, your metabolism slows and to avoid future starvation ( which is what your body thinks is happening) you are driven to eat more and most people end up yo yoing their weight by doing this. Your hormones are forcing you to put on more weight. Your body uses leptin to do this

The jabs and bariatric surgery avoid this scenario

. As does a very long term approach of cutting out UP food entirely and increasing movement. This can take years but is more likely to work

Chicheguevara · 02/01/2025 18:11

1200 cal is quite low. Have you considered a lower calorie deficit that doesn’t leave you starving. Even just for month one while getting your head in the game.
I follow the Bodycoach plan. I get loads of nice food. 3 meals, 2 snacks and a fun workout. I am very rarely hungry and don’t feel the need to eat my own leg.

MoodySky · 02/01/2025 18:13

It's not just about how many calories but WHAT you eat.

Work out how many calories you typically burn and knock 500 off it to give your daily allowance.

Up your intake of vegetables, pulses, seeds and nuts. Avoid UPF and sugar.

3 good meals a day, no snacks and no eating after 7/8pm (try to give yourself a 12 hour break from eating).

1AnotherOne · 02/01/2025 18:13

Also agree with Mounjaro

Wildywondrous · 02/01/2025 18:14

I'm almost 5 stone lighter than this time last year thanks to the weight loss injections, I did november to april then october to now so 9 months in total.
It's life changing and very easy, I've just lived my life and the weight has dropped off because I'm no longer obsessed with food, if you can afford it then it's something you should consider.
I have also done every single diet going and do ok but I lack willpower and so fail after a few weeks, Mounjaro is liquid willpower.

Movingbutstandingstill · 02/01/2025 18:15

Well done and some good advice already.

How is your fluid intake? Before every meal drink a glass of water and every time you feel hungry drink a glass of water. This will test if you are really hungry or thirsty.

Cal wise have you worked out your TDEE? 1200 sounds low and potentially unsustainable. Raising this to 1500 to allow 100cal snacks might help. Make sure there’s a fruit / protein for your snacks (babybel light and a handful of grapes etc)!

CMOTDibbler · 02/01/2025 18:20

DH has been overweight his entire adult life, has dieted on and off all that time too but just couldn't cut the food down long term. He started mountjaro last year, and for the first time says he knows what its like to not be bothered about food, and not having big 'time off' dieting. He's lost over 30kg now and is the lightest he's been in 30 years. Totally transformative for him

Choux · 02/01/2025 18:21

I agree that Mounjaro is the best support you can get to try to lose weight. Lost 50lb with it, am back in all my old clothes and buy far less food. It practically pays for itself.

PickAChew · 02/01/2025 18:22

If you're 5 stone overweight, 1200 calories is almost definitely too low. You need to be able to keep this up and not just put it all back on again when you start eating "normally" again.

If the 5 stone lighter version of you (for example) needs 1600 calories to maintain their weight, that's a good amount to consume to lose that 5 stone. It might come off slowly but I suspect it went on slowly, too. Concentrate on making those 1600 or whatever calories as varied, filling and tasty as possible and you will have more chance of long term success.

Tweensandterribletwos · 02/01/2025 18:23

Look up Team RH - they work all your calories and macros out for you and it’s only £7.99 a month. Same idea as MFP but properly tailored to you so you (hopefully!) won’t feel ravenous as the protein and fibre should satiate you.

icecreamscoops · 02/01/2025 18:26

Are you looking at your macros too, my pt has said aim for 30% protein to start with don't worry too much about carbs and fat at the beginning and calories around 1800-2000
I was doing this before Xmas and lost half a stone in 4 weeks
I've stopped over Xmas but getting back on it next week
If you're hungry you are not going to last it's just totally not sustainable

madson · 02/01/2025 18:27

Get the jab!!!!

healthybychristmas · 02/01/2025 18:30

Have you thought of trying Mounjaro? I was a new position in June and now need to just lose one stone not five. The difference in my life has been incredible.

JohnTheRevelator · 02/01/2025 18:31

Have you looked into weight loss jabs i.e. Ozempic, Wegovy,Mounjaro,if you can afford them privately? Going on what I've heard in the media lately, you are highly unlikely to get your GP to give you them. Cost about £140 - £200 per month. I am 4 stone overweight, I lost 7 stone without weight loss jabs, but got absolutely stuck with 5.5 stone still to lose. I started on Wegovy at the beginning of September last year and have lost 21 lbs so far. I would never have been able to do that without the jabs, they have just killed my hunger and silenced the constant 'food chatter' in my head. Admittedly the side effects can be a bit unpleasant. I've had mild nausea on and off, and tiredness. But I think it's been worth it.

BIWI · 02/01/2025 18:31

Meant to add,I expect you'll be told that using weight loss jabs is 'cheating'! Well, bollocks to that! They have been an absolute god send for me.

midgetastic · 02/01/2025 18:33

Could what you think of as hunger be enhanced by less sugar in your system ? Sugar withdrawal is a thing
