Hi, having done all the reading I would very much like to try Mounjaro, as it sounds by far the best one, but here in Ireland the online providers only do Saxenda at present. I only need to lose about a stone, has anyone any thoughts on whether Saxenda would be good enough for this?

@theDudesmummy if you have only a stone to lose, are you likely to get a prescription for Saxenda in Ireland? You have to be obese, BMI of 30 or more as in the UK, surely? What is your BMI at the moment?

theDudesmummy · 03/12/2024 21:18

@SilenceInside

It's over 30, or over 27 with another condition, of which I have two: hypercholesterolaemia and hypertension. I am at BMI 28.

@ann1984 I am afraid I can't help as I am not in the UK as I said. (I can't get Mounjaro here).

Is Wegovy available to you or is it just Saxenda?

Saxenda will likely produce weight loss but it isn't as effective as Wegovy or Mounjaro, on average as per the results of clinical trials. For Saxenda, after a year on it, the average weight loss was 21 pounds.

I have had another look and I think I can actually get Wegovy/ Ozempic, which I will try to do.

Currently there's a massive shortage of Ozempic in Ireland (and probably elsewhere too). I'm on a waiting list for it as I was recently diagnosed with type 2 diabetes. Saxenda is not suitable for diabetics and is readily available so would be suitable for you.

Ah, OK well I hope to try Saxenda now then, thanks for the info. I guess Mounjaro will become available at some point.
