Why is it not showing on the scales when everybody his telling me how much weight I have lost

Hi
I have been cutting out all the rubbish, takeaways, etc for the best part of 10 weeks.

I think I have managed to lose almost 2st in total, but I am not certain on this as whenever I get on the scales they are different every time.

Now everybody has remarked on how much weight I am losing, but whenever I get on the scales they never show any further weight loss, and I always seem to weigh the same as last time sometimes quite a but more.
I must stress I am not constantly on the scales, I probably only weigh myself every 3 weeks or so.
Today I got on the scales for the first time in weeks and immediately sunk into a depression they were reading a few pounds heavier than last time.
All my family have said how slim I am looking and that there is now way I have put any back on.
I find this so frustrating.
Has anybody else found this when trying to lose weight, everybody telling them they are losing the wieght but no results on the scales.

how do you clothes fit? cos if you've lost 2 stones you should of gone down 1-2 dress sizes.

crazedupmom · 22/04/2008 21:37

I appear to have gone down 2 sizes only just though I am about a fourteen or a 16 now.
It also depends on what the item of clothing is and the cut style etc.
I find this dieting business quite stressful at times tbh.
I have size 18 t-shirts from last year which looked horrible before but now they look really nice.
Thats all very well but I would rather size 18 was hanging off me instead.

might not lose dress sizes if you've lost weight - depends on how big you are. I have the opposite problem, docs scales say I have lost almost 2 stones, but I do not look or feel ay different and my clothes do not feel or look bigger.

Have you been exercising? If you have you'll have gained muscle, which is heavier than fat.

MascaraOHara · 22/04/2008 21:40

are you exercising?

you can shed inches without losing weight

crazedupmom · 22/04/2008 21:44

No I do keep meaning to start exercise but I never seem to get round to it.

I have heard that you can be losing inches without losing weight.
I have never been able to get my head around that one though.
Its just that I would feel so much more motivated, and happy if I could see even a couple of pounds weight loss.

i discovered earlier that i am a whole stone lighter if the scales are on carpet rather than the tiled bathroom floor.

have you washed all your clothes too hot?

orangehead · 22/04/2008 21:49

I onced weighed myself before and after a pee and there was 3lbs difference(must of been a big pee). Dont forget what you are wearing makes a difference to. Ditch the scales and measure your waist instead, far more accurate in my opimion

orangehead · 22/04/2008 21:50

sorry opinion

crazedupmom · 22/04/2008 21:50

Well the size 18 t-shirts I mention do seem fairly small for size 18's so maybe.

...off to put my scales on the carpet just for the buzz.....

confusedmamma · 30/04/2008 07:31

I'm in the same position. My scales don't register a loss, but my clothes are looser and everyone's commented on how much weight I've lost. Don't go on the scales1!! It's just a number after all. Buy yourself some nice clothes in your new size and keep doing what you're doing.

OrmIrian · 30/04/2008 07:49

Chuck the scales away. If you know that you are losing bulk and that the way you are eating is doing the trick, just carry on with it. I firmly beleive that scales belong in GPs surgeries and green grocers shops

Haven't owned a set of scales for years now. I became obsessed with the numbers and didn't like the way they made me feel. Also DS#1 jumped up and down on them till they broke....

Hi, it's probably water retention. try drinking 2-3 litres of water for the next 3 days then weigh yourself after that. you're prob still loosing inches but just half a litre of water weighs a lb! xx
