Petite support for losing a few pounds/getting to our 'happy' size

ACuppaAlwaysHelps · 06/10/2024 16:13

Hi all. Following on from the thread that @SprayPaint started yesterday, a few of us (@Waiting9 @Horriblehistoree @FaceofSpades) seemed keen to have a thread to support each other in reaching our weight loss/body shape/fitness/health goals.

All petites are welcome on this thread, but it seemed like it would be particularly helpful to have a corner of Mumsnet for those of us who are petite/small framed and officially a 'healthy weight' but know we feel/look better a few pounds lighter (which would still be within a healthy weight/not underweight).

Maybe we can share goals, progress, struggles, things that are working, etc.? It would also be lovely to hear from any petites who are at a 'happy weight' and what you are doing to be successful.

Someone (maybe @FaceofSpades?) posted some helpful thoughts on the thread yesterday.

Please share how you all think this thread could be helpful.

Feel free to share as much or little as you like. Height, current weight, goal weight or other body measurements, nutrition, calories, exercise, NSV, etc.

Really interesting thread to see so many tinies Grin

I'm 4foot 10.5 inches and 10stone.

Currently using Mounjaro with the goal weight of 8 stone 3 pounds. This would give me a bmi of 24 (very close to overweight).

To lose weight at 0.5 pound a week have to eat 759/800 calories

Put on weight/possible maintain at about 900 calories (hence the Mounjaro)

Will be staying on Mounjaro forever as physically can't eat only 900 calories forever without it

WhoWhereWhatWhy · 03/12/2024 12:08

I’ve lost a pound this week which again I’m really happy about. Still a few pounds from being a healthy weight though, I’m 9st 7lb or thereabouts (5 foot 1, nearly two stone lost). I’d hoped to be under 9st for Christmas but that’s definitely not going to happen. Unlikely by the end of January too, but hey ho.

I have found in the past that increasing how much I eat can lead to a weight loss spurt, but the weight loss doesn’t continue. I generally still need to be eating around 1000-1200 calories a day to lose weight, and be doing some exercise as well. It’s really hard. My exercise at the moment basically involves rushing around!

The answer and long term goal for me is to just maintain, and not to yo-yo like I have been doing for so long.

ACuppaAlwaysHelps · 03/12/2024 17:17

It's great to hear that some of you have seen some weight loss or some other NSV. Well done, everyone!

I've still not lost any weight, but I'm encouraged that some of you have seen some progress over the last couple of weeks. I'm tracking my calories on Nutracheck and continuing to try to eat high protein and high fibre.

I've just started the Caroline Girvan Christmas series. These workouts are much shorter than most of her workouts, so I might try to add in a Pilates session on some days as well.

yes I want to maintain when I get there!
I was 9 st 9 this morning and hope to be just under 9 and a half by Christmas and 9 by my big event in April - have found a fairly recent photo of my first love on Facebook….. he’s looking pretty good 50 years on!

BogRollBOGOF · 03/12/2024 23:09

It's game over for me... mince pie season has begun 😋
And lebkuchen 🙈

I've just bought one pack of each for the week and won't jealously defend them from the family...
When they're gone, they're gone!

RomWali · 04/12/2024 03:20

From April this year to now, I have lost 20KG through jogging, and I am still sticking to it.

Radiolala · 04/12/2024 07:50

@LaurieFairyCake crikey, that’s tough! How are you finding it?

Radiolala · 04/12/2024 07:54

The scale hasn’t stopped going up since my holiday. I need that motivation back (maybe I should book a holiday?).
I got down to 54kg on the 17th October and now on 56.7kg. It just shows more when you are short doesn’t it?! My goal is 50kg so a stone lighter.

Swearwolf · 04/12/2024 08:24

Hi everyone, super late but can I join you please?

I'm 159cm/5'2" and lose weight incredibly slowly. I've been trying ever since my youngest was born (she's almost 9!!) and never have success for very long. This year something is working, and I've lost 9lb - this doesn't seem much but to me it really is.

CW is 63.2kg/9 stone 13 - finally under 10 stone!!! My next little goal is 62.5kg and I'd love to get there by Christmas.

The key for me is regular exercise (running and yoga) and drinking less. That leads to slightly better eating habits.

I'd love to not gain back any weight over Christmas! I'm prepared to not lose any, but I don't want to dramatically fall off the wagon and get back into bad habits, snacking all the time and drinking every evening. Hoping you guys can help me stay sensible!!

I haven't lost a y weight either! In fact I'm up a pound :(
I feel so defeated some days, I've tried so hard to stay on track and have worked out as much as I can (even when I've felt like I really can't).
I'm hoping I've lost a few cms somewhere 😂

I have found my people! I used to be a member on here until I was pretty much bullied off it due to a similar thread (apparently we aren't allowed to be uncomfortable with how we look if we are 'slim' in the grand scheme of things).

I'm 5'1" not sure of exact weight but I think about 8st 13 - although I am a size 6-8 in most shops still which I can't get my head around. I previously lost weight due to illness and ended up 7st 4 which although apparently a healthy BMI made me look as ill as I was. I would like to be 8st 7lbs though as I feel I'm carrying a lot round my hips and thighs.

I think my issue is that I probably don't eat enough, but what I do eat isn't the best (stressful job, busy life and only myself to shop/cook for). Can anyone give me some ideas around a daily meal plan? I hate eating breakfast so would be ok with two meals. I eat pretty much anything except whole tomatoes, courgettes, and aubergines (weird I know) 😂

I get that - in real life some of my extended family who are happy being unhealthily extremely overweight , no judgement from me if that’s what they want, think it’s ok to make similar comments if I politely say no thank you to a big slab of cake! I just want to keep healthy for as long as possible.
Same people make rude comments about me not drinking alcohol though! Despite me telling them for the last 40 years that alcohol triggers severe migraines.
And yes to bullying on mumsnet! I dared to express my views on the teaching of reading ( with 40 years experience of infant teaching) and the vitriol was awful.

I have found that too, because I'm "skinny" I shouldn't hate the way I look but I feel like such a blob even at my lowest weight. My legs and hips are the biggest issue, I see so many people bigger than me who have much nicer legs and smaller hips so it's definitely not a given that thinner=better.

I've not had the best of days recently, yesterday I had chocolate for lunch, dinner had too much cheese and pasta and I had a small wine and an espresso martini. Today I've had half a bun and a tea with so many sugars in. I don't have any lunch with me, it's either popcorn or I order something like a bacon sandwich 😕

This sounds so much like my diet at the moment! 😂

ItIsAlwaysSwingsAndRoundabouts · 05/12/2024 15:03

I've had so many people tell me, you need to stop trying to lose weight, you look absolutely fine.
I can ignore that, but I'm now getting some family members telling me I have body dysmorphia :(
I definitely don't have body dysmorphia, I'm very happy with my legs for instance, just have areas I feel need a little work- my upper arms for instance.

TheShellBeach · 05/12/2024 15:14

I'm going to give it six months of consistent exercise / reasonably healthy eating and then I'm not averse to maybe getting lipo or something

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Pickingmyselfup · 06/12/2024 13:42

I keep seeing people talking about wine and cheese boards and I desperately want to have wine and cheese for dinner over the weekend but I'm still trying to lose weight. I've not been amazing over the last few days, I've not gone crazy but I haven't stuck to 1500, I've probably gone over a bit and my choices haven't been the best. Jacket potato for lunch yesterday and today flapjack!

Had someone today tell me I've lost weight and I'm like where?!

Waiting9 · 06/12/2024 13:53

To a certain extent you can eat your normal food choices and still lose weight as long as you reduce portion sizes. I would probably avoid alcohol but cheese is definitely fair game!

It's so hard because I don't technically need to lose any but to me I'm not skinny enough. So I'm like do I just maintain for a bit or do I try to lose a bit more. I need to get in the gym and restart my lifting but time is short with me trying to redecorate in time for Christmas and still fit my runs in plus work and kids!

Swearwolf · 07/12/2024 07:29

Christmas events are starting here and it's making it hard. Had a burger for dinner last night as we were out at the town light switch-on, and had a massive baileys at the end. Combine that with less exercise this week, and I'm not feeling good. We have a party to go to tonight too, where I will try to drink sensibly and not go too hard on the nibbles... but where is the Christmas fun in that?! I do wonder if I should switch my mindset to just not going too crazy over the next month and not putting any weight on, rather than hoping to lose some.

Swearwolf · 07/12/2024 07:31

@Pickingmyselfup it is really hard! I'm also struggling to fit in enough runs and yoga. Could you try that as an alternative to the gym - yoga is great strength training as it uses your body weight, and you can do it at home with a YouTube video.

HeartOfChocolate · 07/12/2024 09:12

@AlwaysRight1985 I used to be what you describe, skinny fat. Thin but not toned. Couple of dumbells, 30 mins couple of times a week you and will start to see some definition in a month. Then, just build on it - couple more reps, heavier kit or just push ups etc. Ref. Food - DD lives on her own, typically cooks something veg / beans / lentil based in a casserole to last a couple of days, and you can add side protein to it - salmon, baked eggs, chicken legs etc. I have soup for lunch rule plus egg or piece of cheddar. Quick, healthy and light.

I think where I’ve gone “ wrong” before is starting Christmas treats too early- I’m carrying on my 1000 a day until the actual week of Christmas. Easier for me I know as we don’t have hungry children to feed! I’m hoping to be down another pound or 2 by then and will savour my Christmas food .

Storynanny1 · 07/12/2024 09:47

So effectively I’m returning to the days of my 50’s 60’s childhood where there was no such thing as Christmas food before Christmas Eve!

Swearwolf · 07/12/2024 10:07

That's what I'm trying to do, but it's difficult with events and parties putting us out of our regular routine! Hopefully in between those i can avoid sliding into bad habits and minimise the impact.
