Discussing weight loss with colleagues

So I work in a female heavy sector and we talk about all kinds of things. Since I have been doing a VLCD, a few of us have spoken about weight loss, spurring each other on and generally being quite open about the struggles to lose weight.

I need to lose around 5 stone to be at the top end of my BMI and so the weight has been coming off quick at the moment.

I haven't really discussed how much I have lost but a colleague asked me yesterday what is my average week weight loss, which I am happy to discuss, as it said, we've all been very open. A male colleague piped up and said 'you'd lose more in a week by having a s**t' to which I replied, it can't constantly be that, at some point I must be losing fat. It really really got to me. I've lost 13lbs so far and have been really motivated but now I am just stuck with a feeling it's because there's not a lot of 'stuff' left in my body. Could he be right?

Perhaps he’s fed up with hearing the talk about weight loss.

SilenceInside · 18/09/2024 07:09

Of course he's not right. And it's a crude comment too. If he is fed up with talk of weight loss he could have avoided the conversation or changed the topic, using his social skills! Instead he chose to be charmless and a bit unpleasant.

I'd not give it another thought and chalk him up as someone to minimise social contact with in the workplace.

It could be. He's not always in the staff room so I can't imagine he's heard it a lot but then I am interested and engaged in the conversation so maybe I'm not picking up on it.

He was just trying to be funny I think and made a crass joke that was in poor taste. Best to just ignore it. Or quip back- ‘your shits maybe, not mine’.
Dont be disheartened. 13lb is great. And what he says isn’t true. I’m a serial dieter and I usually try to go to the bathroom before weighing myself. Believe me, it makes very little difference, 1/2 or 1lb at the very very most.
And so what if he is bored by the dieting talk? It’s not your job to censor the conversation so it’s interesting and relevant for His Highness 🙄

Well done on your weight loss so far.
He sounds like a total prick
Motivate yourself by drop kicking him 😀

beanii · 22/09/2024 13:15

Why not use his comment as motivation instead of an excuse to stop the diet (which sounds like it's coming)?

Justus6 · 22/09/2024 14:27

Eff him! Utter t**t you are doing amazing! Anyone that's ever tried to loose weight knows how difficult it is. It's a process that can take a lot of time and alot of ups and downs.. you are doing amazing 13lb is a considerable amount it's an entire dress size. Never let anyone take your achievements away from you. ❤️

WandaFishy99 · 22/09/2024 14:32

He probably thinks he's being funny and it's just his reaction to what he thinks is "women's talk". Just ignore what he says, because I shouldn't think he has any idea how weight loss works.
13lbs is excellent, keep going, you're doing really well. It's not easy I know, but you sound like you've hit on the right way for you to keep a healthy diet.

PenelopePitStrop · 22/09/2024 14:39

OP, please please please do not be put off by a stupid, unfunny, rude but probably throwaway comment.

You are doing really well. I would keep your head down on the subject, and keep on in your own way .

PenelopePitStrop · 22/09/2024 14:41

Hindsight, but if only you had said ‘I’m not the one who is full of shit’
