BMI 30 - Mounjaro or keep going with IF?

I'm back at my set point of BMI around 30 after a stressful couple of years which included starting HRT (I swear this has been the prime cause of weight gain).

Intermittent fasting worked well for me pre-HRT, but I'm not managing to keep going at an effective level.

Ive got a big birthday coming up in 14 months, so that's a real incentive to aim for feeling better about my weight, and a realistic timeframe, and I'm motivated to focus on IF.

However if that doesn't work and if I go much under my current weight I rule out getting mounjaro by legitimate means. Anyone else had this dilemma? What did you decide?

I'm starting to read the millions of posts on injectable which are really informative, my concern is long term maintenance, which I think may be easier with intermittent fasting and exercise for me personally?

Well, you can keep intermittent fasting and exercising while taking Mounjaro, it's not an either/or situation. It has side effects, which some people suffer severely and some people moderately or not at all - and there are some major risks associated with the drug eg a possible link to thyroid cancer, gastroparesis and other rare but real complications. So there is a risk/benefit to weigh up and if your weight is borderline, you might decide the risk isn't worth it. On the other hand, it might be hard to keep up fasting in the long term, and Mounjaro makes it much easier so you might feel it's more likely to bring you the outcome you want.

Thank you - all good points.

I went on the scales after posting and my bmi is actually 29.5, so I think I'm going to try and stick to strict IF with good food choices and exercise. I was reading on another thread that obesity drugs are still only in their infancy so there's always new improved drugs to look forward to if I don't succeed!
