Which weight loss drug to try

Morecoffeeforme · 31/08/2024 17:11

I’ve decided to try a weight loss drug after years of yoyo dieting and failures.

I’ve got 4 stone to lose and I’ve been exercising more for the last 6 months but struggling with the food side of things.

Ive been looking at Ozempic, Wegovy and Monjouro

Does anyone have any recommendations for which one is best/most effective?

These aren't magic drugs that are without risk. In my experience the only way is to NOT do yoyo dieting and to eat wholefoods, look after your gut microbiome and avoid all artificial additives and colourings and sweeteners. The body can manage itself rather well if we aren't confusing it with unnatural substances.

Doggymummar · 31/08/2024 17:49

I've been in ozempic over a year, moving to Mounjaro this morning

Surely your decision should be made following a consultation with a doctor, not Mumsnet?

I do understand all this but I put on a lot of weight after taking anti-depressants after an illness and I’ve really struggled to shift it.

Although admittedly had years of really struggling with my weight before all that even though I’d got to a comfortable weight.

Ive done a lot of research on the injections and am comfortable with the risks

Come on - why are on you on the weight loss injections board. Are you just here to be rude to people really struggling with their weight?

Monjouro is regarded as the best option right now. I have been on Wegovy previously but switched to MJ due to constant stock issues at the time (don’t know if this is now resolved). I’m doing much better on MJ than I did on Wegovy.

ViolaPlains · 31/08/2024 18:20

I’m on Mounjaro. I decided to have that one because it’s said to have fewer side-effects and is more effective.

So far I’m very happy with it, and I’ve had minimal side effects.

EricCatman · 31/08/2024 18:29

I’m on Mounjaro and it’s the only one I’ve tried. I’ve been thrilled with it. No side-effects whatsoever, in fact, I feel better than ever.

I started at the end of June and have lost over 2 stone. It’s been ridiculously easy.

LastTimeLosingIt · 31/08/2024 18:41

I've been on Mounjaro for a month and it's a real game changer. It has completely stopped the non stop need I had for food and snacking.....I've not had chocolate or crisps in a month and it's been straightforward.

I am with MedExpress and I have a £40 off voucher for you if you order through them. I'm not allowed to post it here but PM me and I will send you the code.

It'll be the best thing you ever done

I've just started Mounjaro. All good so far. No side effects and the working of it feels very subtle! I've stopped all sugary treats too and managed no problem. I'm hoping to make this a permanent change!

You have posted in the weight loss chat board, might be worth asking MN to move if you are looking for injectables advice.

Well done that’s amazing!

How have you done it? Hope you don’t mind my asking but how many calories are you eating a day?

Where have I been rude? Please report me to MN if I have.

And yes of course I'm struggling with my weight, I've got a BMI of 39. I'd still discuss medical treatment with, you know, a doctor or similar HCP.

I think it’s rude to imply it’s stupid to ask a board about weight loss about experiences with weight loss injections.

Of course I’ll need to speak to a doctor after this in order to get anything prescribed!

OP posts:
Spidey66 · 02/09/2024 07:53

I didn't suggest it was stupid, just it was better to discuss medication with a doctor. Again, if you feel I was rude (I don't think I was) please feel free to report me to MN.

Good luck with your weight loss journey. I've lost 8lbs since start of August using MFP and exercise. I'll stick with that for now as I believe my excess weight is a lifestyle issue rather than a medical issue and should be dealt with by a lifestyle change.

LoquaciousPineapple · 02/09/2024 09:09

I've been on Mounjaro since the beginning of May and have lost 3stone.

It's been "easy" in that it has totally overhauled my mental approach to food as well as how my body physically responds. I don't have any desire to snack at all, and I often leave food on my plate at mealtimes now. I'm eating high protein and relatively low carb (still have small amounts of pasta/rice/potato with my evening meal but no other times), around 1-1200 calories a day.

I picked Mounjaro because it's proven to be the most effective on the market at the moment and people tend to have less side effects on it. I've had no undesirable side effects other than needing to drink more water than usual.

FlappyFish · 02/09/2024 09:21

@Morecoffeeforme I have been on MJ for over six months and lost four and a half stone. MJ is essentially second generation and I started on it when it was so new in the U.K. there was only the low dose available. It’s the best thing I have ever done for myself. It’s amazing and made something achievable I never thought I could do. Happy to answer anything. I’ve been posting on the main MJ thread since thread 1 and we are now on 20 and have started splitting off to smaller groups. Go on the September starters too.

Nothing wrong with asking for advice from friends, google, forums to gain some knowledge before speaking to a HCP so you can advocate for yourself.

Weightloss medications are prescription only, so once the OP has done their research the next step is to speak to a HCP who has the competence to prescribe these medications.

You obviously, whatever your reasons, feel strongly about these weightloss drugs, that is your opinion, not one to project onto other people who ask a reasonable question. Your reaction would have been appropriate if the OP was suggesting getting the medication from her hairdresser not a registered and qualified pharmacist who has this within their competency, people get lots of different medications all the time through this route.

Good luck with your weight loss journey. I've lost 8lbs since start of August using MFP and exercise. I'll stick with that for now as I believe my excess weight is a lifestyle issue rather than a medical issue and should be dealt with by a lifestyle change.

Good luck with your weight loss journey. What you need to understand though is some of us have been where you are now, several times over decades, and for individual reasons it was not sustainable and we are now at the stage of trying a very expensive medication with unpleasant side effects. I sincerely hope you have more success than I did, but don't be so quick to preach to others who are only trying to improve their health, you just might find yourself in the same position as us in years to come.

Pyjamatimenow · 02/09/2024 09:50

I tried ozempic last year and Rybelsus. Didn’t lose much and had bad side effects. Tried mounjaro and had virtually no side effects really. I’ve lost 2 stone so far. Definitely mounjaro for me

Spidey66 · 02/09/2024 10:23

I'm 58 and have been yoyoing since my teens!

We'll just agree to disagree.....I don't want to fall out with anyone because of this and will bow out x

AhBiscuits · 02/09/2024 10:38

I lost my weight on Wegovy, as it was the only one available, but if I were starting now I'd get Mounjaro.

That’s brilliant to hear.

i think from all the stuff I’ve read I’m going to go with mounjaro.

It just all seems too good to be true! Except the price of course!
