Hi just seeking a bit of advice . I've got 3 stone to lose and I don't have a huge budget . What I can only afford one. Which do you think would be better joining the gym to become more active or slimming world. I have tried In the past to calorie count, but I have no will power and go back to my old ways

Check whether your GP can refer you for 12 weeks free SW or an activity group - depends what your Local Authority and the NHS in your area are funding.

Otherwise, remember that whatever you do gym-wise won’t make as much difference as what you eat. Therefore, if it is one or the other, Slimming World gives you the accountability of regular weigh-ins and support from the group meetings, and you can then build in free activities like walking or outdoor gym.

It takes HOURS to burn in the gym something that takes literally seconds NOT to eat.

So focus on diet and do free exercise like walking fast to music. Personally I love 'chorus training' (copy write FusionChefGeoff) where I walk normal pace for the verse then as fast as I can for the chorus and fade out. Bonus points if it's an isolated location and I can style it like musical theatre / Beyoncé

As you get fitter you can replace the fast walk section with a run. Most choruses are short and manageable in my experience

You will lose more weight being in a calorie deficit than exercising along, so I would go for slimming world and then when you feel able to, add in some exercise. Could be power walking or at home workouts if you aren’t able to go to the gym :)

Food for weight. Gym for health. However, without an attitude shift and lifestyle change, neither will make a long term difference.

Without addressing this, both would be money wasted in 12 months.

so start with sw, but add in free exercise by making small changes everywhere. Walk, or bike, rather than take the car. Stairs not lift / escalator. Don’t eat in front of a screen. Stop snacking completely.

Yes it's my snacking that's the issue I work constant night shifts and I snack when I'm tired . Thanks for the chorus walk idea sounds fab. I can do local walks but unable to walk to work as I like rurally and can't safely walk as no pavement and very fast roads!
I think I'll join sw tomorrow as my local group is doing a free membership this week
