Hi! I allow myself to post a message because I have weight to lose and my skin worries me... I'm 17 years old, I'm 1m55 and my highest weight was 85 kg, currently I'm at 81.7 kg, and I think I want to lose about 35 kg to reach 50 kg. I have a lot of stretch marks all over my body, arms, legs, behind the knees, thighs, stomach... and I'm worried about having a lot of few hanging because of these stretch marks... I send you some photos and I'm waiting for your feedback on your opinions about my skin! i only can send 5 pictures so i’ll send the legs one in the comments or in another message, my skin looks firm but as you can see my skin is really stretchy…Do you think that i'll end up with a lot of loose skin? And if yes does it'll go away with sport, and some dermatological treatment (laser...) and a lot of time ( i can wait years if i have to ) or i'll be forced to do restorative surgery on the thighs and stomach?? Thank you very much!! if you have questions, ask me !

I've heard bio oil is good for stretch marks, though I haven't tried it myself yet, and I believe it takes a while to work.
There's also an advert on TV atm about a new stretch mark lotion. If I see it again I'll come back and let you know.

qlmgfd · 27/06/2024 18:06

thank you !!! i’ve tried a lot of lotion, do you think that my stretch marks can cause me loose skin ?

Well, I had that problem when I last lost a lot of weight before on my inner thighs. It was bad. I tried Nivea cream on it I think but it did nothing. (I've since put it back on so it's filled out a bit! Grin )
I don't have much elastic in my skin either.

qlmgfd · 27/06/2024 21:00

if it’s not indiscret how much weight did you lost?

You are young and your skin is still elastic .

I think as long as you lose 1-2 lbs a week ie slowly you will be fine

I was similar to you and went to 65kg over nine months at 38 and it was fine tbh. Sadly all back on now .

thank you ! is my skin still elastic even if i have a lot of stretch marks literally everywhere ? did you have stretch marks ?

You look fine OP. Some people just have skin that is less stretchy, I am also one of them and had stretch marks since a teenager. Even some men have them, they are very common. Stretch marks will fade to very pale silver over time and be much less red and then you can barely notice them. I have them everywhere, arms, boobs, tummy and legs but you can’t really see them once they go silver and I swear by fake tan to blend them in!

qlmgfd · 28/06/2024 13:39

hi ! thank you for the answer ! yes my skin is very stretchy but i don’t really care about stretch marks i’m juste scared that my skin gets more and more worse during and after my weight loss…

Stretch marks are not a sign of lack of elasticity, they are a sign that your skin is young and when it stretches fast (weight gain, pregnancy) it responds by making more skin fast, so it looks scar-like because the structure is slightly different than the rest.

I got my children quite late and didn’t get a single stretch mark because my skin was not so keen to enthusiastically multiply when older!

Make sure you lose weight slowly, exercise and eat things rich in collagen. Your skin might be loose at the beginning but it will bounce back. If my loose belly skin could get back to pre-pregnancy shape at 39, yours will too. Good luck 🍀

My understanding of stretch marks was that they form when the skin has reached the end point of its elasticity, which is why they are a different texture to normal skin as they have stretched and become a scar. They are very common in puberty and pregnancy as your hormones affect your body differently, as in you can develop new areas of your body very quickly, such as your breasts growing rapidly and the skin stretches quickly and forms a scar. You can’t really stop the hormonal changes happening so this isn’t your fault OP, you are only young and been through puberty recently.

Some people do not have as much collagen as other people (sometimes this is an auto immune disease such as lupus but it is natural that it reduces with aging) and collagen is helpful for skin elasticity and repair, I think that a sugar and carb heavy diet can affect collagen as well as sun exposure, smoking (all of which I have partaken in) so you can increase your collagen intake via your diet by eating fresh fruit and vegetables and meats, food rich in vitamin C and amino acids. I do put a collagen serum on my face and hydronic acid is also a good one to use
