Ok, so I've just booked a lovely last-minute long-haul holiday.
And now am seriously motivated to look a little bit better in a bikini - in just a month's time.
I've always been nice and slim, but in the last five years (Menopause and Covid) wait has crept up and I'm a stone heavier than 2019. I'm 51, weigh 10st 8lbs, height 5ft 5in. Size 10 - 12. What could I do to lose up to half a stone before we fly off on holiday July 20? Is that possible? Am determined and motivated! (Although also have had loads of stress recently - building work, kids doing exams etc)

I would just try to eat well, eat ‘clean’ (so less processed foods) cut down alcohol, stay hydrated, walk more and possibly plan out a bikini you do feel comfortable in.

I’m the same height as you and your current weight is my goal weight (5lbs to go). I’m focusing on toning up the wobbly bits with weights but that will take longer than 4 weeks but always worth a try! I’ve made sure in advance that I am happy with the cut of my swimwear as otherwise I know I will feel annoyed about it the whole time!

7lbs in 4 weeks is not impossible but don’t go too far and be too restrictive. I calorie count but it’s not for everyone

Steamed fish is the way to go. It is healthy and filling. Lots of clear soups, raw vegetable and non sugary fruit. Keep filling up on veggies, no white stuff, potatoes. bread , pasta, cakes or biscuits.

First time I did low carb I lost 10lbs in 2 weeks! So yes it's possible but you'd have to be strict.

Hey! I’ve lost a similar amount of weight recently! I feel really good tbh. All I did was make sure I was in a calorie deficit, I also swapped any biscuits or treats with coffee with protein bars. That’s about it.

braveandwellbehaved · 26/06/2024 16:36

Basically replaced one meal a day with a salad with protein on top. I have tofu or fake meat as I’m trying to cut down on animal products but you could have anything. Good luck!!

Low carb, intermittent fasting and stop the wine (if you drink alcohol) for three weeks. Walk a bit more.

BitzerMalonie · 26/06/2024 16:50

I’ve just lost a stone in 3 weeks-the first 2 weeks I just cut down and lost 7lbs but the third week I cut out all sugar, had nuts for snacks and lost the other 7lbs.
It can be done but may need to find what works for you-a friend struggles to lose any but lost 5lbs in one week by eating no UPF.

Definitely possible but probably won't be much fun! Best way is go low carb, lots of protein and fill up with salads or lots of veg. Eggs for breakfast. Try to eat more earlier in the day and stop eating anything after 7pm.
Minimal snacking, low calorie snacks if you have to (babybel light, carrot sticks, natural yogurt).
No sugary drinks, no alcohol

Wow just inspired myself to do this over the next month until my holiday!

Hi I've recently gone on a health kick, and in 2 and half weeks I've lost half a stone.
I'm on a juice fast and on the treadmill. Good luck!

Goodenoughisgoodenough · 27/06/2024 12:09

Oh goodness, so I am trying... But my motivation is not brilliant!
Daytime yesterday - scrambled egg (with a teency bit of butter) and coffee with splash of milke.
Dinner - lean bacon rashers and stir-fried veg. (The kids had stir-fried veg-rice, I skipped the rice).
BUT... at 8pm I had a glass of white wine.... 10pm ate 3 crackers and cheddar!

Today so far - a banana and peanut butter, and coffee...let's see how this goes! I may decide that the pain is not worth the gain...

@Goodenoughisgoodenough this sounds like barely any food in meals I am not sure it is very motivating to be eating this little.

Eggs - 70 ish cals each
Butter - 40 ish cals if small
bacon - 65ish calories per slice
veg - don’t know portion or what you used but 100-200 calories
milk - 20 cals?
wine - depending on glass size between 70-150
cheese - not sure how much you had but a small block of 25g can be about 60-70 calories
crackers - don’t know brand but assume 100 calories?

even adding in 2 eggs and a few bacon rashers you came in around or under 1000 calories and it wasn’t from volume foods. It could be more if you had a lot of cheese. You could have eaten the rice and been fuller for longer.

dieting is one thing and healthy eating is another. You can lose weight healthy eating by being sensible. You just need to look at your meals and make them sustainable long term to keep you motivated.

Eat more fat to feel full, less carbs for the weight loss. Have the cheese, skip the crackers. Have the wine but dry red.

Skip breakfest, start eating after 2pm if you are still eating at 10pm.

Go on a Juice fast! That's the magic key ;)
