Should I take privately-funded precautions before taking Mounjaro?

Hi all,

Sorry, it's a long story but I need some advice.

I am 2 stones overweight and have a BMI of 30, which means I can easily take Mounjaro if I want. I have researched extensively into it and have decided that it is much more risky being obese and having Prediabetes than any of the risks associated with MJ, so I have decided to take it.

There is, however, one thing I need to take precaution for - my gallbladder. In pregnancy, I went into triage for itchiness in my hands and they tested me for Cholestasis of Pregnancy and looked at my liver and gallbladder on an ultrasound. They said it was all fine and told me to go for an annual checkup for my gallbladder.I am confused. They didn't find anything wrong with my liver or gallbladder, so I don't think I have any issues with that going forward.

However, in the last 2 months I tested positive for the h. pylori bacteria in my stomach/bowel and had food poisoning and went in to A & E - also related to h. pylori. The whole thing gave me abdominal pain in my upper right hand side and back - also suggesting gallbladder problems but not serious at all and not actually tested.

In the meantime, the physician associate at my GP practice has referred me for an ultrasound to find out if I have problems with my gallbladder but it's going to take ages for it to happen. I asked my GP if I could go ahead and order Mounjaro before having the ultrasound and she told me not to.

My problem is, it is taking ages for the ultrasound appointment. It doesn't look like the NHS sees me as a priority but for me, this is an urgent matter - I want to have an ultrasound, make sure I have no gallbladder problems and start taking MJ asap.

Should I just go ahead and do a private scan?
Also, is it okay for me to go for the cheapest option (£89 at Ultrasound Care vs £145-240 in a Harley Street practice)?

What would you do?

Thanks.

Really not appropriate here!

Honestly, I'd hold off.
You can pay for a scan, but as far as I'm aware, that's literally it. A scan. It won't tell you if it's healthy, or if there is an issue give you a diagnosis.
Just wait. Your health is more important and if you do have gallbladder issues Mounjaro could make you very very ill.

They are unlikely to approve you for it anyway

Thanks for your replies, I ended up getting an NHS ultrasound scan in the end. The technician said that I had a small gallstone but that everything was fine. My GP will contact me soon-ish to talk about my next steps.
I googled about this and it turns out that I can still potentially take a weight-loss injection but I will wait for my GP's advice first.
