Mounjaro - seems to be lots left in pen when finished

Hi, I have just injected my fourth dose from the 2.5mg Pen and my 5mg pen has arrived in readiness for next week.

However, I have noticed that there is still what seems a lot of liquid still left in the 2.5mg pen. I have read that there is a way to get this out, but my pen is not turning anymore. It just seems such a waste as it looks like there is almost a full dose left in there? Has anyone else noticed this? Should I just throw it out regardless and use the 5mg.

Hi. Please come and find everyone who is doing Mounjarno. The left over is referred to by many as the 'bonus dose'.

You can twist the pen hard to get the extra dose or extract via a needle you buy from Amazon et al. This is clearly not what's prescribed but most people that I've seen in here do it.

I am on 10mg I have lost 12.5 kg in 17 weeks. I have the same curiosity with the almost a dose left on my pens 2.5 mg 5 mg also 7.5 mg, the 10 mg doesn't show I will have some left a shame will be only 4 doses. I have used the left doses on my previous pens, doing a simple bit of force twisting as normal you will use the pen for the previous doses, and you can inject the left medication as the 5th dose, something like a welcome bonus. I gain an extra week on the monthly cost. Good luck to everyone on the weight loss journey.

Hi, I also have been on Mounjaro and now on max dose of 15mg. Up until I stumbled across this thread I was throwing the pen out with some left in it and drove me nuts! I have bought the needles to extract, but can anyone tell me if what is left in original syringe is equivalent to one dose - just worried it may be over or is it under? I only actually test the dose once to see if fluid coming out. Thanks everyone and good luck on your journeys 😀

You should prime each time you put a new needle on the pen to check the needle is screwed on correctly and is working.

Anyway, the quantity of leftover liquid depends on how much came out each time you primed. You won't know until you extract it with a syringe, then you will be able to measure it and work out what the dose is.

Get some 1ml insulin syringes and draw it out so you know what you're getting.
You need 0.6ml for a full dose of whatever pen strength you have.
