30 day challenge - want to join?

YouBelongWithMe · 06/05/2024 07:13

Backstory - I've been quite ill for about a year, and lost about 8kg through being unable to eat. I was then put on medication and feel fantastic, and have been living life to the ultimate full - out for coffee and cake, extravagant dinners, I've basically been in 'treat yourself' mode foe three months.

I've out on 7kg in three months 😬

I'm need to do something but want a set a short term goal. Next month it's my birthday, and in that week I'm off to see Taylor Swift with my daughter and also have a glorious London trip booked with my mum. I'd like to see what I can lose before then, to feel a bit more like myself again.

Anyone want to join? I'll update daily with what I'm doing, eating and how I'm getting on.

Good luck! I need to pull my finger out and have a good month, I’m actually only about 4-5lbs from my goal weight, but I lose weight very very slowly. What is your plan? Do you exercise?

YouBelongWithMe · 06/05/2024 09:13

I have a dog so usually hit 10k steps with her. Sometimes not during the week but the nights are longer so I am aiming for a long walk with her even after working all day.

I'm pretty good at eating well throughout the day - I eat overnight oats most mornings, a healthy salad for lunch (think mackerel, roasted chickpeas, lots of veggies / chicken, salad leaves, smashed avocado, pomegranate seeds) and a reasonably healthy dinner. It's eating crap at night that's my downfall - I feel like I deserve crisps or chocolate etc. Need to break the habit.

I’m in. I would like to lose 13 pounds in total but 6 lbs in 30 days would be good.

YouBelongWithMe · 06/05/2024 10:20

Great! The more the merrier!

It's chucking it down here so it's quite hard to be motivated to go out and get some steps. Even the dog is looking horrified at the thought. I'll have to hope it clears up in a bit.

I've been 10 to 15 pounds away from my goal weight for 9 months now. My biggest problem is I'll frequently have half a bottle of wine one evening and then binge eat the following day. I also have been gradually increasing exercise over the past 5 months, which I do for cardio and general health rather than weight loss, and whenever I increase my workout I eat more temporarily, also I'm losing fat but getting to be quite muscley. So I'm on day 2 off a 60 day ban on alcohol to see if I can steady this ship. I would be happy to hang with you for 30 days!

dudsville · 06/05/2024 10:27

Chucking it down here too @YouBelongWithMe , it's anyone's guess as to whether I'll make it to the gym, but i went yesterday so I'm not overly concerned!

Greenmayleaves · 06/05/2024 10:28

I'd like to join too.

I put on weight after starting medication and it snowballed from there With a lot of comfort eating.

Would like to lose a stone before going away I'm June.

Tacocatgoatcheesepizza · 06/05/2024 10:32

I’m in - we go on holiday in 3 weeks and I could really do with losing a few pounds before then.

I’ve been gradually gaining weight over the last few years (hit my 40’s, lockdown comfort eating etc etc) and it’s just not shifting….. and the reason for that is because I keep on eating!! I was going to put off starting a healthy eating kick until tomorrow because its a bank holiday but I weighed myself this morning and it wasn’t pretty!

So starting the day with a small bowl of fruit and yoghurt with a sprinkling of granola. I’m not disciplined enough to weight things and calorie count properly but I know my portion sizes are far too big usually so I figure if I know they are smaller that’s a good start….

thenewaveragebear1983 · 06/05/2024 12:14

I’m calorie counting but i get weighed at slimming world. I’m half a pound off my target at sw so I’m going to keep going til I’m a target member then have a few free weeks until I’m 3lbs under and have to pay again. I seem the get the raw deal when it comes to calorie counting- my maintenance calories is around 1900-2000 a day so to lose I need to drop down to 1400-1500 which includes any exercise I do (I run and strength train and walk the dog but am otherwise sedentary). I saw my sister yesterday and she is doing 1700 a day and losing a kilo a week! Which isn’t bloody fair, frankly.

DirtyDensDog · 06/05/2024 13:07

I will join you too if that's ok.

Starting tomorrow. At least a couple of stone needs to go.

YouBelongWithMe · 06/05/2024 13:22

So I've had an oat milk latte and a banana before my dog walk. Then did 7k steps in the rain.

Having a bowl of porridge for lunch - desperately need a food shop. Having fresh raspberries, flax seeds and chia seeds and a tablespoon of peanut butter. Quite a lot but it's all I'll eat until dinner, and it'll keep me going.

Count me in.
I have a couple of events, one mid June and one end of July I would like to be trimmer for

SuspiciousLampshade · 06/05/2024 13:44

I'm rubbish at keeping updated on Mumsnet but I'll give it a go! We go away in 2 weeks so that's a bit too close for comfort but we will visit family abroad in July and that's a bit more doable.

I want to lose about 1kg a month as that's what I seem to be capable of if I'm really consistent with good food habits and exercise. But I like a snack of an afternoon which can easily turn into biscuits instead of fruit (or nothing), and then if we're watching something at night I can easily snack then too. I also have a lot of work trips and obviously hotel food and the massive buffets at lunch aren't great for maintaining or losing weight!

I've already tripped up today by having a muffin but the new me starts now 😂

That looks so good! I’ve just ran out of oats, must remember to buy them in this weeks foster shop.

Well done on getting 7K steps in!

Beatrixslobber · 06/05/2024 15:06

I hate to be that person but it’s glorious sunshine here. We are just back from having a picnic on the beach. I’m only kind of sorry
It was mostly healthy although I’m not sure if the cloudy lemon cider was 😂

YouBelongWithMe · 06/05/2024 18:45

Welcome all who have joined.

What's today's eating been like?

I made a curry tonight and had a big bed of spinach leaves to bulk it out. Trying to focus on making my meals look attractive and plentiful so I don't feel like I'm depriving myself.

I'll have a cup of peppermint tea and a dark chocolate rice cake in the evening.

@Beatrixslobber its been beautiful here today as well, we’ve had 3 lovely days of sunshine. I am a much nicer person when the sun is shining.

I feel like I ate loads of rubbish today but I’ve come in ok on calories. 1550 which is slightly over my goal but not too bad. I’ve planned all my meals for tomorrow and I’ve prepped my lunch for work. I never exercise on a Tuesday as it’s my office day, but I’ll walk with the dog in the evening.

Hi yes please can I join. I’m starting a 30 day body blitz today. I knew I’d put on weight but weighed myself for first time in ages this morning and I’m HORRIFIED. It’s unreal how it creeps on. Absolutely motivated as have a wedding in 5 weeks with lots people I haven’t seen for ages. Don’t want to see looks of shock on their faces as they see me and my extra two stone!!! I know I can’t lose that in 30 days but anything off will be good. Going to do body brushing and home facials etc and just all round 30 day health push.

Im going to weigh daily too. I know that doesn’t work for lots but it helps me stay motivated.

We can do this!!!

Greenmayleaves · 07/05/2024 09:58

Day 1 today for me.

Heading to the shops soon to get a healthy shop.

@YouBelongWithMe your curry looks lovely, is there a certain recipe you use?

thenewaveragebear1983 · 07/05/2024 19:35

I had an ok day today except there were cupcakes in the office and I had one then when I put it into nutracheck it was 430 calories 😡 - lesson learned to always check first!!

so my dinner today was a cupcake at 2pm. I had 2 hard boiled eggs and a pack of pop chips after work and I think that will keep me going tonight, I did have a big lunch. That keeps me in my calorie allowance.

Greenmayleaves · 07/05/2024 19:43

Today is going OK- 900 calories so far and I have had dinner already. The evenings are my worst time when I tend to binge so I need to figure out what to eat this evening without going out of control.

I made a batch of chocolate flavoured oat bars this afternoon. I think they are around 150 cals but found it very filling for a snack - more filling than a kitkat which is my usual low calorie treat at 110 cals.

It's a bit of a cheat really.

I cook off small cubes of butternut squash, red onion and some chicken in a little oil with finely chopped coriander stalks, squeeze garlic and squeezy ginger. I add some curry paste (usually korma, but whatever really. Last night was Rogan Josh). Then two tins of low fat coconut milk, a tin of drained chickpeas and a bagful of spinach before serving. This served three adults, two teens and me for lunch.

Day 2 gone pretty well

Had overnight oats for breakfast which is delicious and healthy but nearly 500 calories and I need to cut that back somehow

Had an oat milk latte at break time

Leftover curry for lunch, plus a carrot chopped into sticks.

Had GF pasta with a homemade roasted red veggie and marscapone sauce. Feel very dull now.

Am at 5k steps but will take the dog out for a spin before it's dark.

How was everyone else's day?

thenewaveragebear1983 · 07/05/2024 20:00

@YouBelongWithMe i love overnight oats but i agree, they can be really filling. I make mine with 40g oats, a scoop of protein powder and Greek yoghurt, it makes them really filling, with frozen fruit. It’s about 400 calories. Sometimes I actually don’t have the oats, I do protein powder into yoghurt with fruit and that is also really filling and keeps me going.

YouBelongWithMe · 07/05/2024 20:13

I have a tablespoon of peanut butter in mine 🤣 I suspect that's what needs to go...
