I didn’t really try last week either, no real reason, just laziness I think. I don’t really have an event coming up to try and look my best for. My knee is not 100% but it’s really good which I am grateful for. I am eating good food and lots of veg out of habit but also lots of crisps after dinner. I will try and find some motivation this week.

@thenewaveragebear1983 sounds like you are recovering well, it’s so tough trying to think in terms of weeks, not days.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 13/01/2025 12:17

I did actually by some miracle lose 1lb this week, no idea how! Maybe the effect of dry January as my food has been pretty rubbish.

Starting weight 163.5, now 162.5.

A loss is a loss @thenewaveragebear1983! And think you are owed at least a little bit of good news

Yesterday I got my 15 minute row in and drank no alcohol so am practically a Saint. I did eat a horrendous amount of snacks though including 2 portions of cake.

Tonight I shall try and do a 20 min work out at home. Stay off drinking and no snacking this evening. Snacking has already been plentiful during the day

thenewaveragebear1983 · 14/01/2025 18:02

Exactly @Storyland , I shall take it graciously

Had a really good day yesterday, today I've been hungry but then realised at 3pm that I've not drunk any water all day, only tea and coffee.

I've just had the nicest dinner, onion, garlic, tomatoes and Tom purée, herbs- add some orzo and a bit of water and a block of feta, bake it in the oven until the orzo is cooked then stir it all round to make a lovely creamy risotto-y thing. I added prawns to mine as well 😋

Storyland · 15/01/2025 08:34

Ooh that does sound really nice! I had left over fish pie for tea last night. Which was also very nice.

Didn't manage a work out but did get DD's passport renewal sorted so at least did something useful. Stayed off the alcohol but did have a sizeable chunk of Cadbury crunchie chocolate bar. Feel like I'm easing back into things again at last. I'm actually craving a salad which I think is a good sign.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 15/01/2025 21:14

Started the day really well but ended up eating a load of rubbish. FFS.

I'm feeling a bit better, I am getting stressed about returning to work though, I have now been off 4 weeks and I feel like I should go back although I don't really feel ready. I don't have full movement back in my eye or my lip and I think it has just all hit me, the last few days I've been really emotional and weepy. There was a point I felt I would never get better, now I am worried that as it's been 4 weeks I won't fully recover and I'll have to adjust to the 'new normal' (I hate that expression) but basically come to terms with the fact that I look different and may do for 6 months or longer. I have never had long term sick leave before- is taking a few additional days after you feel better, just to get my head together and I suppose come to terms with the whirlwind of emotions, is that okay? Or should I be going back?

I think it's as a result of this stress and also my period is really late now (a side effect of the steroids I think according to dr google) so I just am craving sugar sugar sugar and eating loads of crap 😢

I'm so sorry, @thenewaveragebear1983 . It sounds really tough. My tutor at uni had bells palsy and was signed off for 6 months straight away. She did recover but I do think it takes a long time. Which isn't what you want to hear I know but it sounds like you need a long time off to recover without pressure. Please take as much sick leave as you can get, I think in this case it will do you better in the long run.

I had an OK day yesterday. Except for snacking on chocolate far too frequently. Sticking to my packed lunches and no drinking has been my positive change this week.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 16/01/2025 10:45

@Storyland thank you, that's interesting about the 6 months. I do feel a bit of a fraud being off so long especially when I work from home. I am sincerely hopeful that given the little daily improvements, I will be much better by next week and will be able to return although I might need to request longer screen breaks and less talking as those are the things most bothering me right now. I'm going to suggest I return next Thursday.

The no drinking is really starting to improve my sleep now, I am finding myself waking from deep dreams each morning which I think is a good sign of the width of my sleep improving. Hope you're seeing some benefits too @Storyland

Take as much time off work as you can @thenewaveragebear1983 , try not to fight it. Thinking of you.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 16/01/2025 13:22

Well I spoke to my boss and said I wanted to try to go bank on Thursday, she is actually on leave Thursday to Monday and she doesn't want me to go back when she's not there and also doesn't want me to go back and her not be there so it looks like I may be looking at Tuesday 28th to return. And she's setting up a meeting with hr/staff support to discuss as if I go back before my face is fully 'normal' they can offer me some additional support. So I feel a bit better about it all and a bit less fraudulent about being off.

In other news, the sun is shining here and it's a beautiful winter morning so I took Maggie out for a bonus walk and stopped for a hot chocolate at the park cafe. I may have had an Eccles cake, medicinal purposes of course 😉

So glad you have such a sensible boss @thenewaveragebear1983 . I think I remember you mentioning you had a family holiday overseas this summer? Might distract you to watch a travel programme from that country, a cooking show or something about its history.

Storyland · 17/01/2025 09:39

Morning, slightly less snacking yesterday and an active work day. But did have a glass of wine last night as it was mine and DH's first kiss/dating anniversary.

Tonight I'm planning on resuming my weekly Friday night walk with DH which I think will also do me good. Ran out of food to bring a packed lunch so hoping to pick up some soup.

If I can do the walk tonight and get a run in on Sunday I will be happy with that for a week's progress

Hope you all have a nice Friday ahead of you

thenewaveragebear1983 · 17/01/2025 10:52

@Sedgwick yes I am very lucky. My job is boring as hell but the people are lovely. I'm feeling a bit better today, and have decided to do a bit of housework as it is so untidy and dirty after 4 weeks of dh's housekeeping!

Last night after what had been a pretty good day food wise, dh bought me a big bar of dairy milk which I promptly ate and destroyed any calorie deficit I may have achieved. Today I'm having a nice steak and triple cooked chips tonight so my food during the day will be light, as it's a lot of calories. I'm still doing dry January and am starting to feel the benefit, I'm having good dreamy sleep and feel a lot brighter. I still have that lingering tiredness, it's been simmering away since the autumn really and considering I have rested for a full month I would have thought I'd feel less tired, so I am going to ask my gp to repeat my bloods for thyroid, iron and b vits when I seen them on Monday.

Have a lovely Friday all, and a great weekend ahead.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 19/01/2025 19:39

Good evening, how has everyone's weekend been? Mine is been good but my eating is off the scale, I really need some sort of intervention I think. In the end I sat and planned all my meals, not just dinners and all my snacks and did a shopping order. I need a re-re-re-start tomorrow. I've really streamlined my menu and prepped loads but all this only works if I actually stick to the bloody plan. I'm boring myself now, it's gotta stop!

I've decided to go back to work this week on Wednesday , dependent on what my gp says tomorrow and what my boss agrees to, but I'm going to ask to do half days as a phased return until she gets back from leave. Although my face is still a little squiffy, the only actual issue is my eye still not fully closing so they might say i can't as I look at screens all day, but I'm feeling a lot better and I just want normality back now. Then hopefully I can go out for a little run gently get back into some sort of routine 🤞

Anyway, food tomorrow;
B- baked oats, Greek yoghurt, blueberries
L- probably a baked potato as I'm going out with my MIL
D- hunters chicken and veg
Snacks- carrot sticks and Humous, boiled eggs

Hope you're all ok

My weigh in day seems to have shifted from Sunday to Monday which I'm not sure is a good idea but never mind.

Official weight: 10st2. 2lbs down from last week. Did 2 bits of exercise last week. More alcohol free days during the week. Started bringing lunch to work

This week, the goal is 2 lots of exercise again. No alcohol until Friday. Keep bringing packed lunch. No snacks after tea. Try to lose 1lb.

Really trying to take things slowly for now. I'll feel more energised when there's more sunlight but for now this feels like what I can manage.

Love your plan @thenewaveragebear1983 , hope this week goes really well

thenewaveragebear1983 · 20/01/2025 09:45

@Storyland I am currently weighing in on Mondays too because I've joined a few friends on a WhatsApp group for a little diet club. It wouldn't be my preferred day either!

OP posts:
thenewaveragebear1983 · 21/01/2025 08:49

I weighed in today (should have been yesterday) and last week I gained hald a pound, which although it's a gain, it could have been a lot worse.

I had an excellent day yesterday, I stuck to my plan 100% and actually had calories left to play with as I didn't eat my planned snack. How weird that I have been almost continuously eating for a month, and yet the first day I actually work out a preplan 2 snacks (carrots and hummus, and 2x boiled eggs) I didn't eat either of them or anything to replace them. There must be some kind of reverse psychology in that.

Today, I have an electrician here and someone coming to quote to replace a window. It's my last day off on sick leave, so as best as I can I am going to rest, curl up with a blanket and a cuppa.

Meals: baked oats, yoghurt and fruit
Lunch- I made a delicious chicken snd sweet potato curry last night to portion out for lunches, so will have one of those with brown rice.
Dinner- baked potatoes with cheese and tuna
Snack- carrots and hummus, boiled eggs

Hi all. To help improve my ways and binge less, I've started making spinach drinks. I've been boiling some eggs also and having as little snacks with fruit. Baked some potatoes to have with salads too.

Setting myself little time targets to go without food.

Started doing little twist exercises as have been getting a sore back from using a laptop. Seems to help.

Body shape seems to have improved a little, hopefully continue.

Storyland · 22/01/2025 09:58

Friends came for tea on Monday and brought a huge chocolate fudge cake and cream. I finished it off yesterday and then finished off a bottle of Bailey's from Christmas because I had been doing jobs all evening and wanted a treat.

I'm working late tonight too. Going to say it here to try and remind myself. Indulgent food is not a replacement for rest. I don't need a treat. I need chill out time. And probably some fruit wouldn't hurt

thenewaveragebear1983 · 22/01/2025 10:44

@Storyland that's a good reminder to all of us I think, we are so conditioned to see junk food as self care (or alcohol as self care) and it's actually not. My PT always says that self care should leave you 'in credit' not 'in debit' so if it's leaving you feeling more tired, more unhealthy, etc etc then it's not self care - even if it temporarily makes you feel better. I hope you find time to chill today 🌺

@LamontNutrition I don't think you're after advice at all, I think you're trying to sell your business?

I personally wouldn't pay to join a WhatsApp group that as you have correctly ascertained, I can get for free on here.

@LamontNutrition advise is a verb (to give information to someone) advice is a noun and the word you are looking for.
