So sorry about your dog @poorpaws. It's horrible when they are sick. Hope the pain relief helps them.

Weigh in day for me. I have lost 1lb. Which I will take gladly. My progress has slowed down but so has my effort so that seems fair. I would love to be doing more but job and life stuff is also taking up a lot of my energy and time. I'm still working on trying to find the new balance.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 22/09/2024 08:23

@poorpaws so sorry to hear your lovely dog is poorly. I hope the pain relief helps her. I hope you and dp enjoyed your week.

It's grey and wet here, we have a lot of outdoor activities to do that just need to Get Done. 2 football matches (luckily both at home although one after the other) - dh will take those and I will ferry dcs to and from the ground and deal with mud, showers, boots etc. Dog needs walked- me, plus I'd like a run (but given my hip is still hurting and the miserable weather, my inclination is to avoid this one, although that means a full week of no exercise)

It's a perfect day to get the log burner roaring, get a roast dinner cooking, get some jobs done, hot bath, cocoa.... maybe this afternoon. But we have a lunch out at a local pub after the matches with our football friends, and a few other things we need to do first.

I can't believe it's nearly October- as a family we tend to tick through September after back to school then ds informs us daily of the days til his birthday (29th) which ticks the month along quickly. It's a really busy time of year for us. Plus we're about to have our bathrooms done (oh joy of joys, goodbye rotten plaster and damp mould, and slugs) but it's just chaos isn't?

Hope Sunday treats you well, whatever you get up to

@Storyland yay! to the 1 lb loss, every pound closer to your goal and it's so much better to lose it slowly. I'd be so, so happy with 1 lb a week off from now until Christmas.

@thenewaveragebear1983 you are busy, you make me feel lazy. I hope the football matches go well and I don't envy the muddy washing. It's rotten weather here too and given that two of my dogs are old and achy and my greyhound hates rain, I might give the walk a miss.

I think the bad news from the vet is beginning to sink in and I'm fighting back the tears hourly. It's one of those things when you know what's coming, you know she's had the best life but ... it's just not right, she is my best friend, my deepest love, my everything.

Anyway back to today. I'm going to do very little. I had decided to spend the day sorting cloths out, mainly changing drawers to winter t-shirts and jumpers but it's just too depressing. I love the changeover in spring when I'm getting light blouses out and putting heavy jumpers in the spare room but this way round makes me sad and I'm sad enough today so I'm just not doing it.

I've got some money/bills to sort out, a lot of hot drinks to consume and perhaps chocolate for my last day off diet (I won't go too mad because I don't think I've got much in the house).

So a quiet day at home for me, most possibly on my iPad most of the day watching anything on YouTube that I can find of interest. It is lovely to have a whole day in front of me to do whatever I want, or more likely don't want.

Have a good Sunday everyone, I'm off to make a coffee, which will be the second of a lot today.

poorpaws · 23/09/2024 07:56

Good morning

I've gained three quarters of a pound this week and given the week I've had it could have been much worse. I had hoped to maintain but I think a gain was inevitable so re-start today.

I had quite a lot of food yesterday on my last day of gluttony but I did manage a dog walk in the afternoon when the weather improved. Every time I say I'm not doing a dog walk, with good reason, I still do, I think I need to be outside for a least part of the day.

As I said previously it's 13 weeks (and two days I think) to Christmas so I'm hoping to make good progress by then.

Have a happy Monday everyone and good luck for a healthy week.

Sedgwick · 23/09/2024 10:08

Good week for me, went on the cross trainer 6 times. I feel so proud of myself afterwards when I am dripping in sweat. Had a pretty strict week food wise, a step in the right direction. Lost 3.5lbs.

Storyland · 23/09/2024 12:52

Well done @Sedgwick , that's got to feel good.

I have caught DD's sore throat and my period has started so I'm feeling run down and not with it today. I'm giving in to it and taking it as easy as I can. Still have to do work and food shop, and have a short meet up I've got to do tonight - friend is in need. But I really wish I was in bed reading and watching the rain outside. I'm just not in the mood for working or people-ing today.

Sedgwick · 23/09/2024 12:56

@Storyland thanks and well done on your 1 lb loss. I am at that lucky stage at the moment where I can prioritise myself most days. Much harder to do this with small children and jobs! Also no more periods is heaven. Hope you feel better.

Storyland · 24/09/2024 08:43

Thanks @Sedgwick ! That is something to look forward too. 🙂 I have just had a 4 years break from full time work whilst I was studying - they were definitely easier days but I am telling myself that more money and a pension are important too.

Still feeling rotten today but not properly ill just a bit ill. Going to try and drink lots of fluids and stick to my little corner of the office. Then early to bed tonight. Hope the rest of you have a brighter day ahead

poorpaws · 25/09/2024 19:17

@Sedgwick Wow, that's such a good loss in one week, great work.

@Storyland sorry you are feeling unwell and I hope you feel better very soon. I hope you manage to get some rest.

I don't know what's got into me but I'm going ballistic sorting and folding clothes. I said a few days ago that I need to swap summer clothes to winter ones but some stupid switch went off in my head and I've started re-arranging everything. I started with jeans, then nightwear, now I'm on blouses and t-shirts. How many t-shirts can one woman own and wear, I've got to be ruthless.

Then this morning I couldn't find some optician information I needed so I pulled everything out of the little dresser 🙈 and decided nothing was going back in until it was all sorted. I now have two huge bags of shredded paper and still a huge pile of files to sort out.

Anyway I've been too busy to binge so I'm hoping it will be an ok week.

I got drenched going from the car to the opticians and I've been very cold all evening so I think the driving torrential rain has got into my bones and I can't get warm,

I hope everyone is doing well. Already three days into the week, I can't believe how quickly the days are moving now.

Have a good week everyone, mine will be busy drowning in shredded paper and old t-shirts.

Storyland · 27/09/2024 07:07

@poorpaws love a good sort out! Although I often run out of enthusiasm for the task about half way through - right at the messiest point! 😆

So I think my cold may actually be a chest infection. It's all very phlegm-y and gross. Had one evening of shivering and then being very hot but that seems to have settled down.

I have just been collapsing into bed as soon as possible each evening. I'm hoping I'll turn a corner soon because this weekend has a couple of things I've been looking forward to for ages. Got a meet up with some friends and our daughters tomorrow for lunch, and Sunday a Baptism Service.

Hope you are all having a better week than me!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 27/09/2024 15:39

I love a sort out too @poorpaws , so cathartic

I feel dreadful. All week I've had weird fuzzy ears and head, like I'm in a bubble. My chest is really heavy and breathless and awful thundering palpitations. I barely slept last night. I've not exercised except walking the dog. My hip was really painful after running on the 15th and yesterday was the first day I'd had no pain in it, so at least some good may have gone out of my week. I've lived on toast and sugar 🤦‍♀️

Anyway- double birthday celebrations this weekend, any kind of plan is unlikely. But I really really really really really really need to get on it in October. I'd like you to restart Monday but it's dh's birthday but Tuesday is 1st Oct so I will weigh in and accept the damage and then oh my goodness do I need to get my head back on track. September has been absolutely the worst month if eating and drinking for a very long time.

My plan for October has got to get strict. I do so much better when I cut out ALL bread, dairy and sugar. And to be honest, I think I could do with cutting out alcohol as well. We've done stop-tober before so I might see if she is on board with that this year, but if not I'll go it alone.

Hi everyone

@Storyland and @thenewaveragebear1983 You both sound to be having an awful time, bless you. I hope both of you improve very quickly and are able to enjoy the weekend.

I've not had a minute for three days. A tiny dresser with just two small drawers and two cupboards and it's taken me three afternoons and evenings to sort (mornings were for dog walks so a little exercise). Six huge bin bags of shredded paper, two large hefty bags of booklets, leaflets, instruction manuals, magazines etc. I had instruction manuals for appliances I haven't had for years. It's so embarrassing, the dustbin, recycling boxes were full plus eight more bags.

I've still got all the old photographs to sort out. They are in a big pile and I just can't hack doing them any time soon. I've got photographs (from my mum and dad's house) of people I don't even know, it's crazy.

My eating has been up and down, for the main part I'd say pretty good but tonight I've relaxed a little with chocolate 😁 one pound off would make me happy.

Tomorrow I am going back to sorting out t-shirts, which was rudely interrupted by the dresser. My daughter goes to a class really near to a charity shop in Fridays so she's offered to take a big bag every week. She called tonight and I filled a bag quickly with coats, skirts and jumpers, all clean and nearly new but they are too small but I've gone off them 😉

I've also got dozens of cookery books, some never even opened. If I want a recipe I go online and wouldn't think to look in the cupboard for a book.

Anyway I'm feeling saintly for my work and I hope the novelty doesn't wear off just yet. Once I decide I've had enough that will be it for a long time.

No plans for the weekend (I'm so pleased about that) so another day sorting tomorrow and a quiet day off on Sunday.

Have a lovely weekend everyone and I hope the celebrations go well.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 27/09/2024 21:07

@poorpaws photos and recipe books are by clearing nemesis as well. I have so many recipe books that I literally never open. Like you, I always go online. But somehow it feels wrong to chuck them, and yet I am not sentimental about books generally.
And photos- I do an album of our family photos, just the highlights, and I have about 2 years worth sitting waiting to be done. It's such a hurdle, and I normally am so proactive. Those two things are my Everest..

OP posts:
poorpaws · 27/09/2024 21:19

@thenewaveragebear1983 I'm so pleased it's not just me. At one point I had over 100 cookery books, ok I used to do a lot of cooking but really.

I've said it on here before and it did make someone smile but I am a creature of excess. I never buy one when I could buy two, or four would look lovely 🙈 honestly I do my own head in.

I've texted my daughter tonight saying not to buy me a birthday or Christmas present as I will only have to sort and throw them out in a year or two. She is very minimalistic and not at all acquisitive which I always wonder is my fault because of my excessive nature and it's put her off.

TalkToTheHand123 · 28/09/2024 09:02

Hi all. Weight seems to be going up slightly. I start a new job next week which I believe involves more walking so hopefully will help with weightloss.

I've started to pull out most of my fridge contents when preparing meals to use up, organise and try eat more wisely, so hopefully can keep doing this and also helps reverse the scale trend.

Sedgwick · 28/09/2024 12:05

@poorpaws don’t feel bad, I raise you 2 rooms full to the brim of clutter, kids almost 18 and 21 and I still have their old toys, books, clothes, camping stuff for Duke of Edinburgh, school projects. I really need to tackle it. As to photo albums I haven’t done one since our wedding 24 years ago.

Sunny here after 2 days of downpours, pheasants in our garden, very pretty day.

Theredjellybean · 28/09/2024 16:38

hello everyone
i love a cook book - the more wankery the better
I have an old heston blumethal one which tells you to make the perfect roast chicken you first have to go to some obscure location in france to buy the live chicken .......

Theredjellybean · 28/09/2024 16:40

@thenewaveragebear1983 I am doing sober october as my drinking was becoming a tad problematic , as in every night more than one g and t...and large ones at that

thenewaveragebear1983 · 28/09/2024 17:41

I need it @Theredjellybean , I don't drink every day but I can easily drink a whole bottle of wine 3 nights a week and to be honest I would drink more frequently if it was on offer. I'm very good at abstaining when my head is in the right space.

Today I made a high chocolate fudge cake with pick and mix sweets all over it, and a batch of cupcakes for Ds's birthday tomorrow. Tonight we're having a takeaway with my in-laws because it's dh's birthday Monday so there will be food and wine, and cake. I am very looking forward to 1st October!

Hi everyone

So apart from the photograph sort out I thought I had finished the dresser. Tucked in the corner at the side of it I found a folder as big as a briefcase full of more papers 🙈. Mondays job I think, I can't face it tomorrow.
@Sedgwick. I don't envy your two rooms but I do feel your pain.

DD dropped the bag at the charity shop but she was made to take the books out (only a few but a lot more to go). They are inundated with books and can't sell them as most people have kindles and books are becoming obsolete. So I have a spare room with a lot of books piled up and I'm not sure where they are going yet.

My food intake has been high tonight. I was pleased with myself as I had made two batches of parsnip soup for lunches (must be autumn) but this evening I succumbed to coffee, chocolate and crisps. I'm so desperate for a loss this week but obviously not desperate enough.

Nasty weather forecast here for tomorrow so I'll most probably spend another day folding t-shirts, oh the joy that is my life.

Have a great Sunday everyone. I'm going to bed early so I don't eat any more.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 29/09/2024 07:28

Morning all. We had a nice takeaway yesterday, I had a chicken dhansak and mushroom rice. I didn't have a naan bread, and we didn't cut the gigantic chocolate sweetie cake either. I drank wine, and I slept terribly. I don't know why, recently I have found myself really overstimulated and I lie in bed for ages just struggling to switch off. In the end i slept in ds's bottom bunk which is not the most comfortable sleep.

today i want to do a run (not really run for 2 weeks) and a few jobs while dh is at football. We're having a roast tonight so will prep that. I really need veg in my life. I'll do a few extras for leftovers for the week. It's my non working day tomorrow, so I have a longer weekend- I am determined to get some rest. I feel really burned out and have so much to do but I'm determined to set aside some time for some proper yoga, and also a proper hot bath with a face mask, body scrub and moisturiser.

OP posts:
Storyland · 29/09/2024 09:26

Morning! All this talk of parsnip soup, chocolate cake and takeaways is making me jealous. It all sounds very lovely.

Official Weigh in for me and I have maintained this week. That's fine because I'm still wiped out with this bug. I'm pushing myself to church this morning to see my friend baptised and then I'm going back to bed in the hopes that if I aggressively rest this afternoon and evening I'll be properly on the mend on Monday.

On the plus side, I wore a jumper-dress this week that I bought last winter but haven't worn since I lost weight. It looked so much better on me and with some little ankle boots I felt very swish and put together. It's given me a mental boost to keep at it once I'm better. It's nice to feel more comfortable in how I look.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 29/09/2024 10:29

@Storyland it won't be so lovely when I weigh in tomorrow Grin I love soup and it does help me lose weight but I cannot make nice soup. I can't get the texture and flavour, and certainly not when I randomly 'bung in' tired old veggies like everyone seems to do on mumsnet. My only successful soups are lentil and bacon, or pea and ham, they seem fairly reliable.

OP posts:
poorpaws · 29/09/2024 21:43

@Storyland it's lovely to read that you are feeling good about yourself and how you look, well done you, that is lovely.

I have no idea what tomorrow's weigh in will bring. I've had a few really good days and quite a few more really bad days so if I'm lucky it could be a maintain.

I've had a really busy day today and I usually like to relax on Sunday so I feel robbed.

I've started clearing out under the spare bedroom divan drawers and it was very disheartening. I'm not sure if anyone else does this but when I've lost weight and feel good about myself I buy a lot more clothes. Today I've found a big pile of casual but really good quality trousers that I bought on a "thin day" shopping spree when I spent far too much money. They are lovely, hardly worn (and a few not ever worn) and of course far too small. They were in one of those vac bags which had lost its seal and grown big again (a bit like me 😁).

I'd just like to know why I keep repeating my mistakes. The times I have taken pounds worth of clothes to the charity shop, still with tags, unworn. Why am I such an idiot? Don't answer that I know why. I'm dog walking in old jeans and t-shirts when I've got two drawers full of lovely quality trousers that I doubt I'll ever fit into.

I'm going to bed in disgrace, overtired and grumpy. I hope the scales are kind tomorrow.

Storyland · 30/09/2024 06:59

@poorpaws hope a good night's sleep has refreshed you. Don't beat yourself up about the clothes. I've yo-yo'd in weight for last 10 years. It's so frustrating to find yourself back at square one. Think all we can do is try again and make little changes to see if it will help things stick.

I'm feeling a little better this morning. Not aching and temperature is fine. But I've lost my voice and moving sets off coughing. Think it will be a few more days before I can get back to running.
