Noom makes me sad

Hi! I have about 8 stone to loose and it's an uphill struggle with family, work, life and being peri!

I signed up to noom thinking what could go wring. I'm jusy weighing myself every day, tracking what I eat and making sure I keep up with my 'lessons'

I started on Wedns last week and haven't gone over 1600 calories which is where it says I should be and i have stayed to my suggested amo9of each type of food. Well I have put on every morning and today I'm over 1kg more than I was kn Wednesday.

What's going on? Please help I need something that's going to help me shift this and eating well and less clearly isn't doing what it's meant to😖

Let me add that I weighed myself after my morning 💩 so its not that weighing me down!

Could be anything.

Water? If you've eaten a lot of carbs you'll retain more water. It's only been a week, give it a month.

Needanewnamebeingwatched · 31/03/2024 09:04

You have probably changed your whole eating system, so it takes time for your body to adjust.

Give it at least six weeks

I would say weigh now, take all measurements and then in a month weigh again and take all measurements and see where you are.

ForestBather · 31/03/2024 09:05

Are you near your period? I always have a spike of weight of up to 2kg around my period and about 1kg around ovulation. I don't think this is uncommon.

I can do 5kg round my period 😂🥲 it's heartbreaking isn't it

It's discouraging but at least knowing, I do try to keep it in context. Best weigh is right after my period.

concernedchild · 31/03/2024 09:09

@ForestBather mine takes about a week to settle down and it's always so random

ForestBather · 31/03/2024 09:09

Oh, I will also spike weight for a day or two if I take paracetamol (probably high sodium content) or ibuprofen. I think it makes you retain water for a day or two. Any chance that's it?

Wonkybird · 31/03/2024 09:32

OK so I feel a bit better thank you.

No periods I have a coil and I'm on HRT so I have no idea where in my cycle I could be. We did have pizza yesterday all within my calories and I was pretty good at not scoffing the lot. I had no idea carbs held water but that makes sence.

I'm unsure if this daily weighing is a good idea! I'm so on edge every morning when I dig the scales out.

Tomorrow will not be any better I have been given 4 large easter eggs by my family so let's just get on with it.

Pizza is likely to be high sodium, so that would make you retain water.

I lost 3 stone with Noom and have kept it off. The weight loss can take a few weeks to kick in, as your body gets used to the new regime, so keep going. Also make sure that as well as sticking to the target calories per day, you are sticking to the colour-coded targets, e.g. x calories orange food, x calories yellow.

Daily weigh-ins become much more pleasant once you hit the tipping point and the numbers start going down!

I thought a Saturday night treat with tbe kids would be fine. Do I need to think about cutting out the carbs? I can't really imagine life without bread, potato and pasta!

The thing is that a spike caused by sodium induced water retention is temporary and not actual weight gain. I wouldn't make an enemy of any food group, just aim for balance.

Menora · 31/03/2024 14:36

Do you keep moving your scales? Keep them in the same place and step on them to activate them then get straight off so it sets to zero. Then get on the scale

Menora · 31/03/2024 14:39

No carbs are not an enemy of fat they just hold water. This is why you will see what fat you lose by measuring yourself or an average over 4 weeks. Even eating carbs you will still lose but on a daily basis they will hold water. The way to see this is usually to pop on before bed and then you will see how much you just lose overnight asleep. Don’t do this every night though. Each g of carbs holds 3G of water. I don’t eat pasta but I eat rice. I find pasta very bloating

Even though you are eating within your ‘allowance’ I would say you need to look at the nutrition of what you are eating for good value of those calories.

siameselife · 31/03/2024 14:49

I think a key point with noom is to make sure that you are eating the right types of foods as well as calories.

I tended to find I over ate orange foods and under ate yellow for example even when keeping to allowance.

I would give away most of your eggs to be honest because that is a lot of extra calories which is going to make everything harder.

siameselife · 31/03/2024 14:53

As you are balancing your food groups if you stick with it you should see results.
It is really boring but it does work.

@Wonkybird I think OP meant the chocolate Easter eggs that you were given as presents. Chicken eggs are absolutely fine and you can continue having them.
