Wegovy

It so baffled but it does reinforce to me the mystery of weight loss

I have been on Wegovy for 12 weeks. I was on Saxenda prior to this for about 3 months.

I have lost a total of..... 4kg

I'm around 70kg at 5'2" so it's not like I don't have a good amount to lose.

I weight train and walk my multi-thousand steps.

I feel very little appetite and am eating very very small meals before I feel full and have to stop.

I don't drink alcohol and am coeliac so don't indulge in cakes, biscuits, bread etc. I don't eat pasta. I eat protein and veg and regular eggs.

I don't eat processed gluten free options because frankly they are awful.

I feel all the right ways for someone taking Wegovy. Very little interest in food. Very little appetite. Frequently eat no evening meal as I'm just not hungry so inadvertently am doing a long intermittent fast. I drink a lot of water. One morning soya coffee a day.

I'm menopausal (cause of the initial weight gain) but I take HRT.

I just seem to defy science.

And please don't say I'm not eating enough. I don't see mountains of fat anorexic people. And I can sustain strenuous gym sessions so I must be fuelling enough.

And it's not muscle mass. I've always had good muscle mass. I've been weight training for years.

Clothes are looser but the same size. Only looser as I've only lost 4kg.

Thoughts?

Can you quantify exactly what you are asking.

4kg is a weight loss

Are you feeling like it’s not enough?

Weight loss can take a really long time is the answer that I know is not ideal but I don’t want to sugar coat it. I have been losing weight for 12 whole months I am still just under a stone off my goal. Sounds like you have lost half a stone in 3 months so you are not defying science, it’s just happening slowly for you which is frustrating and there are small adjustments you can try to see if they work such as checking your calorie intake and your TDEE and seeing if you are in a deficit.

I don’t know how to answer the comment about fat anorexic people. Eating too little isn’t good for your body’s metabolism. That sums that up.

You don’t know it’s not muscle mass as you don’t have dexa scan vision. If you are progressively overloading your muscles and fuelling well, if you aren’t building ANY muscle, then your work out programme is probably not very good! What is it you are trying to gain from weights? Is it strength or hypertrophy

@Menora it's been more like 6-7 months if you include the 3 months on saxenda. Considering how low my appetite is now and how little I am eating I think 4kg in 6 months is woeful.

What I mean about it not being muscle is that people always think weightlifting makes you kg heavier. It really doesn't. I've been lifting for years. I am strong. I have well developed muscles but the idea that the reason I am not in smaller clothes is because I am bulking out like the hulk is just what people think who don't weight lift

It’s really hard without a proper overview, so perhaps you need a PT who has nutrition experience to look over your programmes

I do also do weights, my weight loss isn’t very fast and I am visibly more muscle defined and smaller in clothes, I do not have the type of physique that is small but I probably weigh more than people would think on sight. There is only a certain amount of muscle mass you could form without going full body builder hulk, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t happening slowly - yes it’s not going to be many many KG but your body comp could be slowly changing over time?

you don’t mention calories or your TDEE so have you tried looking at that route?

I have a PT 6 days a week

I've been at this game a long time.

3x lifting splits
1x HIIT
1x whole body lifting or a reformer Pilates.

3x a week 2 hour fast walk

My calories are low. I've tracked for years. I am in a calorie deficit.

My surprise is that with WEGOVY my appetite is so non existent that I really eat incredibly little. I am forcing myself to have an extra egg or a chicken because I am concerned about how little I am eating considering my training.

I haven't noticed any negative effect to my fitness or training.

I've always had to be incredibly watchful of what I eat. I gain body fat very easily but it's been something I have learned to manage. Menopause was a fucker.

But now to fund I have no appetite. No desire to finish anything on my measured plate. No interest or urge to eat dinner and STILL lose weight this slowly is very disheartening.

What does your PT think about you not eating very much

He's equally puzzled by the slow weight loss. He has encouraged me to try to maintain my protein intake. Wegovy and the like are not something he has any experience of. He does of course have experience of various popular weight loss diets and preaches a small calorie deficit to maintain metabolism whilst encouraging slow fat loss. He is also a big proponent of lifting heavy for women. He knows how hard I train.

He's perplexed as I am tbh

9lb in one week????

There used to be someone in a different thread who said they had lost 3 stone over many months. They took a week or two holiday. Relaxed a little but didn't go mad and put on 1.5 stone. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I would be super mad at gaining 1.5 stone haha but yes now obviously most of that 9lb is going to be water and not fat but I was still chuffed.

I'm now on wegovy and fast500 and I've lost a stone in 3 weeks so far with no exercise
