Is there a current thread for short people?

Or have I just started one? I find them really helpful.
I’m 43, 4 ft 11, 10st 1, peri menopausal.
Would love to reach my first goal of 9st 7.

I feel I cook from scratch too much to calorie count so I’m just focusing on good nutrition, low carb (not keto), IF, and moving more. I’ve been trying for two weeks and haven’t lost yet but but I FEEL better and think if I just carry on it will work eventually.
Anyone in?

How short are you thinking? I'm 5'2. Am I too tall for this thread?! (That would be a first that I'm too tall for something!).

Doglead · 15/03/2024 08:59

Hello @Hoglet70! The previous threads were aimed at 5,3 and under, so sorry, but yes you are a shortie too!

The consensus is that we need a lot fewer calories to lose, usually around 1000-1200.

I’d also be interested in any exercises people
do. I walk loads but don’t do anything else and wouldn’t know where to start. My sister is getting married this year and I’m absolutely determined to be devastating (2 exes will be there)

Oh can I join? 5'2 and weigh 10 stone I would be happy getting to 9 stone but my love for chocolate and wine let me down 😬

Hoglet70 · 15/03/2024 11:40

I definitely have to be under 1200 kcals a day to lose anything. Thats fine all week but then come Friday and the wine comes out...

Glitterandtinsel1 · 15/03/2024 12:00

@Hoglet70 I am the same with 1200 kcals but I really struggle to stick to that, I try to walk everyday but really lack motivation

goingdownfighting · 15/03/2024 12:02

Can I join please? 5ft2 and 10 st 5.

YY to eating better.

I'm aiming to just cut junk, eat more protein and fruit and veg and move more.

Looking at slimpod but need to do more research

I'm 5' 2.5" to be precise, 47, confirmed peri, and eat between 1550-1650 a day and lose weight slowly and steadily. The 1200 is often arbitrary and everyone needs to work out their tdee and go from there. Type tdee calculator into Google and you'll find it. My maintenance is around 1900-2000 so dropping to 1550-1650 gives me a deficit and I walk a lot. Like 50 miles a week. If I didn't walk like that I'd have to eat less.
Before you deprive yourself of valuable nutrition wi out your tdee, it was a game changer for me.
I'm on the LOSE IT threads and they are great. A few shorties on there like me and some shorter.

LegoTherapy · 15/03/2024 13:33

I'm 56kg. Can't edit on the app.

Cherryblossom81 · 16/03/2024 08:13

Can I join you? I don't have lots to lose (am at a healthy BMI but definitely feel/look better a few pounds lighter). It just doesn't seem to be going! It's hard being short, isn't it?

Champagnecharleyismyname · 16/03/2024 08:23

Please can I join? I'm 5ft 3inches and 10st 12lbs. I would really like to get below 10st. I've been low carbing and eating less than 1200 calories for the last 2 weeks and not lost a pound!

I'm 54 and put the weight on post menopause so I've been this weight for about 4 years . I was always around 9st 5lbs before then.

I cannot seem to shift it. I've just bought some kitchen scales to weigh food.

I do exercise but just Pilates and Barre.

Any suggestions? I am determined to stay consistent as even though I'm not losing I do feel good for eating well.

Hoplolly · 16/03/2024 08:55

I'll join. 5ft 1 here and just over 11 stone. I hate how I look but I can't find motivation. I need to do it though, I need to stop drinking wine as I drink way too much.

LegoTherapy · 16/03/2024 09:31

The only exercise I do is walking (50 miles on average per week through necessity) and bouncing on a gym ball while watching tv in the evening. I don't do that often because I'm usually too tired to watch tv but I'll happily bounce two hours watching something gripping. It started with Happy Valley. It would be impossible to eat or drink wine while bouncing so that's an idea. I could happily eat a family size bag of chocolate or crisps otherwise.

BarrysTeaForMe · 16/03/2024 09:38

Hello! I'm short as well. 4ft 11 and I'm 50.
I'm not sure of my weight currently. Over 9 stone. I'm going to weigh myself in two weeks time after I've done a month of healthy eating which I consider to be three good (home-cooked) meals, no snacks, chocolate or alcohol for most days of the week bar one. I can't be dealing with calorie counting. I'd like to get to 9 stone. Used to be 8 stone 7 before but I have no intention of being miserable. Good luck all!

bluefrog11 · 16/03/2024 19:49

5ft 3 here . I’m a healthy BMI but still a few lbs over where I’d like to be. It’s so hard being short, especially as you get older. I’ve been stuck at my current weight for ages.

This week I’ve really dug deep on willpower to avoid sweet things. I’ve just got myself a killa vanilla stick which I love so far! I’m sure it’s all in my head but whatever helps!!!

Kwasi · 16/03/2024 19:56

I am just shy of 5’2” and weigh 9st 2lb. I recently did a TDEE calculator and I should be no more than 8st 11lb. I need to consume 1400 calories per day to maintain my current weight. I never lose weight unless I drop to 1000 calories per day OR 20g of carbs.

I actually find getting into ketosis works really well for me but low carb can be time consuming and expensive.

AuntMarch · 17/03/2024 13:18

1400 to maintain?! I think I'll just stay fat. I lose on more than that at the moment 😭

I am for 1200-1500 a day. Anything more and I do put on weight. I have a sedentary lifestyle, though, with limited opportunity to change at the moment.
