Hi all, am pre diabetic and trying to lose weight and choose lower carb options to improve my HbA1C.

Currently I have to things that work for me

  1. work days (2 days a week) - I have a protein bagel thin with marmite for brek
lunch I have a salad with lettuce, chicory, tomatoes, hard boiled egg, 2 tsp Mayo and 30g cheese.
afterboon snack full fat yoghurt, walnuts, raspberries, chia seeds

  2. non work days (3 days a week)

  • don’t eat anything from after dinner until lunch which can be anywhere between 12-2. Then have two slices toast with poached eggs. Nothing until dinner other than handful of almonds or walnuts.

My work days is non negotiable, I need to keep that the same. My question is should I adopt the work day diet on the non work days? It feels better for me, more nutrients and plants, but with the NWD I get fewer calories and a longer fast.
I can’t fast then only have the salad at lunch, that’s not enough and feels horrible.
Thanks for any input

You don’t say what you have for dinner. Are you just having bread and eggs for dinner?

I can see why you are getting hungry. Do you eat meat? If so I would add in a chicken or turkey breast into the salad with spinach, peppers, cucumbers. You are eating a lot of eggs and bread and not much else, I assume you are veggie and this is why it’s challenging? Do you eat fish?

I would add in soup for volume - big chunky veg soups

Sorry I do have a dinner, just normal dinners with fish/meat, curries, stews, pasta etc. Normal home cooked dinners with veg and protein!
it’s just the day time in trying to figure out what’s best.

Ok I would add some lean meat into your lunch as it will be filling! Also chunky soup is very filling

Id stick some grilled tomatoes, mushrooms, baked beans to the poached eggs , even a bacon medallion or a turkey rasher or two. My absolute favourite with poached eggs is kippers and I pile on the rocket, cucumber, beets on a slice of wholemeal then top with the kippers and poached egg

Could you possibly take a pot of chopped up fruit salad with you on work days? Or a flask of soup?

I rarely touch breakfast but if I dont eat a substantial lunch, I find Im picking before dinner and picking again after and over filling my dinner plate

I also try to limit bread to a couple of slices of wholemeal a couple of times a week, so I now make use of couscous and quinoa as my filler upper. Or a mixed bean salad. If I am going to eat bread I make it count, todays bread was a wholemeal pitta which became the base of a chicken and ham pizza which I had with my usual half plate of salad, some pickles and a couple of HM ribs
