Hi

So I had a bad eating disorder (very restrictive/laxatives etc) forever when I was younger. I managed to kick all of that in lockdown. However since 2020 (also had my son in 2021) I have gained at worst 4stone. I was 8 stone on average back then, 7 at my lowest, weighed myself this morning and I am 12 stone.

I know I need to lose some weight but I don’t want to get back into unhealthy patterns which I am very prone to. I am thinking of doing 16:8 with low carb and lots of exercise. I just find it so hard with a 2 year old to get motivated!!

Has anyone been in a similar situation? I’m embarrassed I’ve let myself gain so much

It still seems a bit extreme and with your history, I would err on the side of caution of not eating for long periods, cutting out a food group and "lots of exercise"

None of these things have ever really worked for me long term. What worked is just reducing my daily calories by 400-500, not cutting out any food groups and moving as much as I could.

It took me 9 months to lose 3 stone and I have kept it off for 3 years.

Slowly but surely is much better than quick sudden fixes.

I would avoid the fad diets - or even going on a ‘diet’.

I am in a similar boat - I need to lose three stone but I can’t get too obsessed with it or I get unhealthy.

I have lost 25lbs over four months simply by portion control and eating better 2 more fortuitous and veg, less late night snacking. I confess to using Slimfast bars for lunch a few times a week because I don’t stop for lunch at work so I was eating chocolate and crisps from the vending machine!

I still have a lot to lose - but my BMI is around 28 now - it was 33 and I do feel a lot better about myself.
