5-7kg in 6 weeks

Worththeweight · 11/02/2024 21:27

I'm in need of a reset, a few big milestones before Christmas and too much celebration has left me feeling rubbish.
I'm 69.1kg, I feel much more comfortable around 62-64kg.
I've set myself a challenge.
Drop 5kg (ideally 7kg) in 6 weeks.
Train 6 x per week
1400-1600 calories
125g protein
As little booze as possible (on day 7 with no booze)
First week was hard, I was so cranky!
But I'm down 1.5kg (mostly water) and through the worst of the booze cravings.
Anyone want to keep me company?

I've had a good day today. Started (again) C25K so did 30 minutes on the treadmill, plus a walk as well since the weather was nice. Also managed to stay under calories. I made a chocolate tofu cheesecake. The whole thing comes in at about 1700 calories (yes, I sat and worked it out!) so a 1/8 slice definitely won't break the bank, but feels pretty indulgent.

How's everyone else getting on?

chatenoire · 18/02/2024 19:56

I think I haven't lost much weight but I'm super happy with how I look!

Wowwellokthen · 18/02/2024 20:08

Joining! I started a weight loss mini journey just after Christmas (29th Dec I think) at 66kg. Hadn't weighed myself for years and had always been 57-58kgs before that. So was a bit shocked but I am 47 so menopause weight must have been creeping on!
So, I've been eating less, drinking less alcohol and moving more for the last 7 weeks and am currently about 62kg...it has been coming off steadily (well apart from pre period fluctuations).
Halfway there! Going on holiday in 5 weeks so would love to be under 60kg by then.
Keep going everyone!

BussiBop23 · 18/02/2024 20:15

@Pitstop1986 thank you!! I have actually been enjoying it! This has been a terrible weekend food and exercise wise for me, but keen to get back on track tomorrow!

Pitstop1986 · 18/02/2024 20:22

Welcome @Wowwellokthen and well done on the weight loss so far! The holiday must be a great motivator to stay on track. Are you going anywhere nice?

Wowwellokthen · 19/02/2024 11:15

Thanks pitstop....I'm going skiing and need to get into my ski pants!

Unexpectedlysinglemum · 19/02/2024 11:18

The no booze is the best thing you can do as not only the calories in it but it makes snacking more likely and excercise and good sleep less likely! If you add in some weights and ensure no white bread or white rice and also try to do a walk or at least be moving round the house tidying up etc after every meal it makes a huge difference to burning off sugars in food (I learned via having gestational diebetes)

BussiBop23 · 19/02/2024 19:32

Help! I had a weekend off, eating and drinking whatever I wanted, and I am finding cutting back down again really hard!

Any suggestions for evening snacks that are low ish in calories but still going to satisfy my sweet tooth/habit of evening snacking.

Menora · 20/02/2024 09:24

Grapes? The problem with snacking is that it is eating when you aren’t hungry, it’s for the sake of eating. If you eat a filling enough meal you probably want less snacks. Try to eat a decent evening meal with protein then just have low cal jelly or fruit if you have to have something sweet. There isn’t really a hack to get around sweet cravings as such. Jelly is usually the answer for me if I am struggling.

this is why things like slimming world promote things full of sweetners, but they can often lead to over eating them or wanting more.

you can get back on track by going into it gradually don’t punish yourself. It’s a new week so just start again

DinnerNightmare · 20/02/2024 09:45

Can I join please? I'm currently 70.2kg, would love to get down to 65kg but am really struggling to shift it.
I don't drink, so that helps. But I am a serial snacker and also tend to eat the same as my kids which is fine for them but not me. Need to add more vegetables to my diet and generally eat healthier.
I used to run and actually did a half marathon last year 🏃‍♀️ but have pretty much stopped since. I was definitely at my slimmest when I was running. Hoping to get back into it as well as do a couple of workouts at home a week. Did some cardio kickboxing yesterday.
I'm going on holiday in 5 months, I really want to shift the weight by then.

Pitstop1986 · 20/02/2024 10:13

Welcome @DinnerNightmare

I've just started C25K to get back into running after a long pregnancy induced break. I've done 2 runs so far and if I can get both kids to nap at the same time this afternoon I'll do my third session. I'm trying to do it every other day. It's hard trying to get back into a routine with 2 kids!

I'm really struggling to be good with my diet over the last couple of days . I'm just going to allow myself a couple of small snacks today, then get back to it tomorrow. I think denying myself will just end up making it worse in the long run.

DinnerNightmare · 20/02/2024 12:57

@Pitstop1986 I did C25K a couple of years ago, it took me from not being able to run to the bottom of my road, to regularly running 10k for fun. Oh, I miss being that fit 😅 I have my kids 85% of the time so don't have the opportunity to run 3x a week, but should be able to do 2...I hope the nap goddess smiled on you today.

Worththeweight · 20/02/2024 21:45

Welcome everyone!

It's the start of week 3 for me and my weight has gone up slightly.

67.8kg - but I'm consistent with the gym and keeping calories at 1,600.

So this week a gain of 200g, which is frustrating.

How is everyone else tracking?

Hi OP, I read your previous post about gaining 1lb or Kg. And now this. Please don't be disheartened.

If you plot your daily weight on a graph you will see it steadily coming down but not in a linear line. It will go up and down but on the whole, be going down.

If you find this isn't happening, then make sure you are calorie counting EVERYTHING. I forgot my toast and ham today and ate more because I was allowed. And then I remembered. Boo.

I find I can only calorie count with portioned ready meals. So not ideally the best health wise, but short term it's okay.

Keep going. Weight will always change. You may just be dehydrated. Or overly hydrated. Take before pics- I go off how my stomach and arms look.

You can do it

Catsfrontbum · 20/02/2024 22:40

I have 6kg to loose so following for ideas and support

Menora · 21/02/2024 07:11

@WorththeweightIf you work out a lot you may possibly build muscle which weighs the same as fat but takes up less space. You say you train but you don’t say what you do in the gym?

I do light cardio but mostly weights and Pilates so I know I am building muscle because although I still weigh 76kg which is overweight for my height of 5’5, I have a 30 inch waist and have lost many inches off my legs but they are solid and I can see the muscles in my arms and legs. I do weigh but I also measure with a tape and am now more into changing my body composition than direct weight loss. I eat a lot of protein.

You may need to choose which area to focus on at a time. Building muscles and losing weight at the same time will take an age. It’s not impossible but it’s slow. Each time you work out you are gonna retain water. If you eat a lot of salt you will retain water. Building muscle will increase your TDEE and even NEET but remember muscle weighs the same as fat.

Look at your gym plan, if you are working out like mad to try to put yourself into a calorie deficit you might be doing that but also increasing your muscle mass so scales aren’t moving as fast as you would like. If you like working out and training then keep doing it but it will take time. Don’t look at daily weights look at averages across a month and measure all your body parts that will give you a better picture of progress.

Worththeweight · 22/02/2024 20:03

It's definitely not muscle gain, that's nearly impossible in a calorie deficit - which I'm in. I just think it's going to be slow and steady which I'm ok with.

Pitstop1986 · 22/02/2024 21:30

@Worththeweight you may find that you get a "whoosh" of weight loss. Something to do with your body retaining water for a few days as you lose then suddenly the water weight is lost and you notice a big drop in the scale overnight for no apparent reason.

This usually happens to me- my weight will stay the same or fluctuate slightly for about a week, then I'll randomly drop half a kilo or so and then maintain that weight for another week or so. Ironically the drop usually happens the day after a higher calorie day!

I weighed in this morning. Can't believe that I've been doing this diet for 2 weeks now! Last Friday I had lost 0.8kg and today I'm another 0.5kg down, so that's 1.3kg total!

I think that starting exercise has really made a difference. I've managed to do 4 C25K walk/jogs every other day consistently. I'm going to a circuit class this morning too!

Amazing!! You should be proud 👏

I weighed yesterday and only lost 0.5kg this week. I weigh weekly and did have a few treats over the weekend so not too bad considering I guess. Lost a total of 4.8kg since I started at Christmas - slow and steady but I'm actually enjoying my new diet and exercise routine!

DinnerNightmare · 23/02/2024 11:58

Some fantastic results 👏

I weighed myself this morning and I'm down to 69.2kg. That's 1kg off this week. It's so nice to be below 70.
I've managed 3 workouts this week, 2 cardio and 1 weights. May try and get some yoga done on Sunday.

Weekend is going to be super busy, so I hope I can keep things under control.

I've been using the my net diary app to record my calories which has been really helpful. Any other suggestions for food logging apps, especially free ones, before my free 7 day trial runs out?
