No noticeable difference?

I am nearly three stone down from my highest weight of 21st 7lbs (that's the last weight the Doctor has on record and also from weighing myself last summer (June '23) before my scales stopped working.

I was diagnosed with type 2 Diabetes in December and my Nurse weighed me and it was 19st 6lbs. I didn't notice the weight loss and it was probably due to the undiagnosed diabetes as I certainly was eating the same type of diet up until December.

I started calorie counting in January and have managed to lose 12lbs so far. I now weigh 18st 8lbs.

I am still wearing the same clothes as I was at my biggest. Apart from my jeggings being slightly looser in the thigh and butt area there's no other noticeable difference. My tops fit the same and my belly is still huge. Also my family (see them 2-3 times a month) haven't noticed anything. They would say (in a positive, encouraging way) if I was smaller or looked like I'd lost weight.

I know that I am in this for the long haul and maybe it is because I am still so large that I need to lose another couple of stone before a difference can be seen. But I am just disappointed I guess.

Bought a tape measure this week so maybe I will see some difference in measurements in a few weeks (if I keep losing!).

I think I’d lost about 2 stone before I noticed I was losing, I started at 23 stone.

And from about 19 stone to 17 stone - there was no noticeable difference in size. My clothes were still 18/20 in that time.

I only really noticed a huge difference at 15.7 - I had to buy size 16s.

I had another jump at 13.7 where I had to buy 12/14

Now at 12.7, I’ve had to get size 12 clothes.

It takes time. Believe me, I know the frustration! I went from 23 stone to 17 stone before anyone noticed I was losing weight - 6 bloody stone!! It was so demotivating at the time.

Well done on your weight loss so far! 12lb is excellent work. just keep ploughing on.

I honestly think the heavier you are, the more time it takes for weight loss to be noticeable and to go down sizes, even when you’ve lost stones in weight.

I know how you feel. Still kind of wearing old clothes and thought this week my double chin was growing back, weighed in yesterday to 3.5lbs off.

Then I got a shock when a friend took me to clubbersize this week and I realised how walking and Aqua Aerobics were pretty light things to do.

I am seriously disheartened with the whole bmi thing - 41 now which is still pretty bad.

Oh BMI pisses me off. I’ve gone from 23stone to 12.7

When I log my weight on my app, it still flashes up that My BMI is 30 and therefore obese.

Makes me want to chuck my phone out the window!

Thank you for the replies @bahhamburgers and @Guttedme and for making me feel less alone. Also huge well done for the weight loss!

Yes, BMI measures are horrid I find. I am slowly making it drop a bit (hovering around the 40 mark too at the moment!). Definitely frustrating but I will keep at it and try to form better eating habits. It is tough/hard though!

When I lost 3 stone suddenly everyone noticed but it took ages and then when I hit 3.5 stone people really noticed and everyone I saw commented. Keep going. I couldn't see it until my clothes got too big and tbh I still struggle now to see it, brains are funny things !
