This isn’t possible is it? Must be more going on?

Ok I’m just being nosy and would NEVER say this to her but just wondered what the general consensus is here?

a friend of a friend is one of those people who posts prolifically on social media all about her life and has recently been documenting her weight loss at Slimming World. She shows her certificates and achievements each week etc and photos of her food. But…she says she’s lost 8 stone in less than 8 months. That just seems a phenomenal amount in that time and I can’t help but wonder if there has to be more to it than just slimming world? She looks to be close to target now as she’s looking really trim. She’s looking absolutely amazing, donMt get me wrong, and yes of course I’m jealous before anyone says it (😂) but I can’t help but wonder, can it really all be down to these Slimming World meals and their plan?

Yes it can....alongside wegovy/saxenda

idontlikealdi · 10/02/2024 16:03

Well she had a lot to lose so yes it can. She'll put it back on though if she goes 'off plan'

MotherofChaosandDestruction · 10/02/2024 16:09

If she's at target nearly I don't think so. It must be with some other help. One of my friends did the same with healthy eating on social media but failed to disclose she'd actually had a gastric bypass too. I was actually really annoyed with her at the time because all these people asked her what her tips were and she started saying about how she cut portion sizes etc.

Really? I’ve never know lm anyone be able to lose all their weight a stone per month unless they did something drastic. Even those with huge amounts to lose see their losses taper off.

Maybe it’s some sort of medication/surgery. I’m not sure. Similar to another poster though, I kind of don’t think it’s fair making people believe it’s possible just by following slimming world only. Whenever anyone on here asks can I lose 5 stone in 5 months or similar, they are told no, not without something like VLCD or surgery.

Also, could just be a no carb diet

Drops off if you can do it!

No it’s not. It’s slimming world. Things cooked in cola and similar I seem to remember from what she posts. Definitely rice and potatoes. And even so, 8 stone in 8 months? It always slows down after the first couple of stone

Definitely possible.

On slimming world? Only?

It is possible. My friend went from 27 stone to 13.5 stone in two years. She did combine SW with exercise. She has basically kept it off for nearly 4 years now (and had two babies!) and still goes to her group.
The only 'extra' thing was skin removal surgery, so I guess that would have accounted for 10+ pounds.

It sounds unlikely - unless she was 20 odd stone when she started. If she was more like 18 then either she’s also using WL drugs or had a gastric band or she’s been on a VLC diet. It’s almost impossible to loose weight at speed naturally unless you have vast amounts to loose, and it will slow down at the end.

Your friend lost 13.5 stone in 24 months. That's very different from 8 stone in 8 months. It's not comparable at all.
