Wegovy side effects

ShrinkingTeacher · 07/02/2024 06:14

Has anyone had really bad side effects from the 0.5mg dose? I seem to read most people's go away after a few days or start at the higher dose.

I feel like I'm going to have to stop. I have awful diarrhea, and the nausea is horrendous. I've thrown up.

It's been 3 weeks as I've been trying to push through it. I feel better the day before my dosage then I inject and the next day I'm horrendous again. So I'm sure it's wegovy rather than a 3 week bug.

I have anti sickness tablets but I still feel awful. I don't think I can continue which I'm really disappointed with.

Have you spoken to your GP yet? Were you feeling ok at the lower dose?
Do not increase the dose without GP consultation

Menora · 07/02/2024 08:02

@Coshei its highly unlikely a GP prescribed this so I’m not sure what you expect they will do for OP?
Yes I stopped taking it for these reasons there is no magical way to stop side effects. You either have to learn to live with them or stop the med or drop back to 0.25mg and just take that.

Did you stop in the end @ShrinkingTeacher? I'm in 0.5 now, third dose yesterday, and am experiencing similar. I'm not sure I can carry on as I can't be too far away from a loo. I was fine on 0.25 and ok, bar some constipation, for a week and a half on 0.5.

ShrinkingTeacher · 18/02/2024 19:46

@Pushkinini I'm sorry you are feeling the same way. I honestly didn't think it would ever stop. I had 3 horrific weeks.

I literally ate bananas, crackers and toast for most of the weeks. I then bought peppermint tea, semathicide (from boots). Honestly, one day I woke up and I did a semi solid poo and then it just stopped. It took 3 weeks.

I spoke with the consultant and agreed to not go up a dose. So I stayed on 0.5mg and they sent me nausea and diarrhea pills. But honestly I'm fine now so I guess my body has got used to it. I'm glad I stuck with it, however I really wasn't going to. I was absolutely fine on 0.25mg, no side effects. I was fine on the first 0.5mg. Then took the second and it was awful for 3 weeks. But I've now taken my 6th dose on 0.5mg and I'm absolutely fine, no side effects.

However, there's absolutely no way I will go up to 1mg. I'm going to request the pen, buy some needles and probably go up to 0.62 and really really slowly titrate up. I really can't deal with the side effects again so I need to be really careful.

How are you feeling?

@ShrinkingTeacher thank you for replying. My tummy is all gurgly tonight and I keep running to the loo. I've been like this on and off since Tuesday. I've taken a couple of Imodium this evening so hoping that I don't have to get up in the night.

Tuesday night was awful - I had about two hours sleep and had to cry off work under the guise of a 'stomach bug' on Wednesday. Clearly I can't keep doing that though!

I might just try eating very plain food tomorrow to see if that stops it. I think I'm also going to split my last 0.5 dose in half and count the clicks halfway, inject mid-week then have the other half at the weekend when I normally inject. I was fine on 0.25 too.

ShrinkingTeacher · 18/02/2024 20:38

Your symptoms sound the exact same as mine. I had to take 2 days off work as I had diarrhea and I was throwing up. So strange how it just came on so suddenly for me.

I was also going to half the 0.5mg dose. The only reason I didn't as it was half term so I persevered on the proviso that if I was still having the runs at half term I would just stop as I didn't want to take any more days off work.

I really hope you feel better soon. IBS tablets really helped settle my tummy. Although I don't know if it was those or just time (3 sh*tting weeks!!).

Best of luck. I really hope they subside for you x

After very nearly giving up, miraculously by Tuesday morning the diarrhoea went and I've been fine ever since. I haven't actually had a poo since Wednesday so I'm going to take a couple of senna tablets tonight, but it's better than running to the loo every quarter of an hour!

I've actually got a 1mg pen arriving tomorrow but I'm going to take 0.75mg as I can't face a repeat of last week.

Aliflowers · 24/02/2024 01:18

Ive been on (and off due to shortages) Semiglutide for about 2 years. And best advice Ive ever been given was dose up slowly. So maximum dose I ever took was 0.8mg as this was sweet spot for me. Once I got to 0.5 I then went 0.6 to 0.7 to 0.8. by using clicks. Im back on it now at 0.6mg and sticking at this for the time being. I have minimal side effects and losing weight. Once i feel that dose it no longer working as it should Ill move up the 0.1mg

ShrinkingTeacher · 24/02/2024 05:20

@Pushkinini I'm so glad you are feeling better. I'm still on 0.5mg as I have my last dose to take this weekend.

I'm actually doing exactly as @Aliflowers recommended! My plan was to go up to 0.6mg as for me I think going up to 0.75mg isn't wise. It's the same jump that caused my misery so I'm not risking it 🤣.

I don't really feel like 0.5mg is doing anything for me right now at all as I'm hungry and not losing. But this is my second month on it

I got really ill on the lowest possible dose 0.25g so gave up as was vomiting everything I ate even simple food. Some people do get really bad side effects, unfortunately while others get none or only mild ones.
