I'm considering getting Ozempic or Wegovy privately. Is one better than the other in your experience?

Hi everyone. I'm in my early 30s and overweight. My BMI is currently 28.6. I understand that you can only get Ozempic on the NHS if you're diabetic (which I'm not and certainly don't want to be). I've tried all the standard suggestions - fasting, weight watchers, weight loss groups etc but nothing works for me. I lose a bit of weight then put it back on quickly as soon as I stop dieting. I would prefer to try Ozempic as it seems to be more established compared to Wegovy, but it also seems to be in much scarcer supply. Does anyone here use Wegovy and how do you find the side effects?

It is the same drug with a different name.

I have used both with the different names

It is the same drug

Side effects:

Feeling ill

Going off alcohol

Going off food

Feeling sick

Benefit: the food noise goes away

You are only just into the overweight category. Is it really worth the potential negative side-effects?

tinker2190 · 04/02/2024 18:57

I think you need to do more research if you believe you should try ozempic over wegovy.

As they are the exact same drug.

It's called semaglutide and I'd suggest research around that before going down the avenue of purchasing.

Also it's for people with a BMI over 30

AhBiscuits · 04/02/2024 19:02

They are exactly the same drug. You can't get it unless your BMI is over 30.

Both the same. Pharmacy were out of stock of Ozempic last time I collected my prescription so they gave me Wegovy instead.

The side effects are really terrible but worth it for an overweight diabetic like me. I wouldn't consider taking this diabetic medication if I wasn't diabetic. I would be too concerned about what damage it could be doing.

I was told that a lot of people put weight back on when they stop the medication.

@plussizedgirl Ozempic and Wegovy are exactly the same medicine - semaglutide. Ozempic is only available for those with diabetes, Wegovy is only available for those who are obese. You're neither.

Pushkinini · 04/02/2024 20:00

You need a BMI of over 30 to get it on a private prescription so it's unlikely you'll be approved.

They are same thing. I've found it quite hard to get a hold of a in the past month or so. But not suron supply sses right now.
