Losing 50lbs in 2024

QuantumQuasar · 29/01/2024 14:51

Hello,

I thought I'd start a thread to keep myself honest about my project to lose about 50lbs this year. I actually need to lose about 100lbs overall, but I am trying to keep this vaguely achievable.

I'd really like to try for a baby, and I think I need to be in better shape for that. So that's my motivation. For my diet, I am following Dr Saira Hameed's "The Full Diet" pretty strictly, which is low carb, low sugar, and no UPF (as far as possible). But I'm not calorie counting, I'm aiming for more of a lifestyle change.

I'm also doing the NHS couch to 5k (C25K) plan, which means jogging (very slowly!) 3 times a week, as well as 30 minutes of body-weight/light dumbbell resistance exercise twice a week. Once I can jog for 30m straight, I plan to swap this, so I'm jogging twice a week and doing resistance 3 times a week.

I started straight away on 1 January, and I've not felt hungry at all so far.

SW: 18 st 12 lbs (BMI: 42.6)
GW: 14 st 11 lbs (BMI: 33.4)
CW: 18st 2 lbs (BMI: 41.1)

That's broken down as:
• 1 - 8 Jan: -7.4 lbs
• 8 - 15 Jan: -1 lb
• 15 - 22 Jan: -0.2 lb
• 22 - 29 Jan: -0.8 lb

You can see in the first week it's mostly water weight, but 9.4 lbs is already approx. 16.5% of my goal, so I'll chuffed if I keep it going gradually. I've also just finished week 4 of the C25K plan, and can hold a plank for about 10 seconds (which is more than I've ever been able to do in my life).

The next big goal is to get to a BMI of under 40 🤞

I'll try and check-in weekly!

🙌🏻 9.4 lbs. That is amazing! Well done.

Well done!! I've made a promise to myself to lose 80lbs. I started second week of January and have lost 7.5lbs so far. Lost weight the first two weeks and then maintained last week. My starting weight is a little bit heavier than you. I've been following slimming world and aiming to walk 10,000 steps each day. We can do this!! Good luck xoxo

QuantumQuasar · 05/02/2024 12:08

Thanks @YourGoatAteMyFishfinger ! And well done @AnxiousEveryday , 7.5 lbs is fab 👏 One day at a time!

I've weighed in this morning, and I've lost another 1 lb to make it to 10.4 lbs total, quite pleased with that. 😊

I've also been reading Dr Andrew Jenkinson's Why We Eat (Too Much) and that's been keeping me motivated. I find the more I understand why certain approaches do and don't work I find the good ones much easier to stick to.

I've decided to change my target weight a bit easier too, to keep a goal of about 1lb a week for the year:

SW: 18 st 12 lbs
CW: 18 st 1.6 lbs
GW: 15 st 2 lbs

Oops, I just saw in my OP I have it as CW: 18st 2 lbs, but of course it should be CW: 18st 2.6 lbs!

Hello 👋

Me again with a Monday update. I've lost another 1.8 lbs!

I'm still feeling very motivated, and so ce Thursday I've been trying to go for a 20 minute walk every day before dinner. Although if I can't it's not a big deal, the main thing is to keep at it with non-UPF eating and focussing on whole foods. I never really let myself get hungry.

I've also been following a YouTube account called Half of Carla - she lost 180 lbs in 14 months and I am just amazed! I think that's a bit fast for me, though, as I don't calorie count and I really am trying not to get loose skin (I'm also doing weight-based workouts twice a week to try and keep muscle). But I do find her very inspiring.

SW: 18 st 12 lbs
CW: 17 st 13.8 lbs
Mini GW: 17 st 9 lbs (which will mean I finally have a BMI < 40)
2024 GW: 15 st 2 lbs

Total weight loss so far: 12.2 lbs

I meant to ask - does anyone have any recs for other weight loss Instagram/YouTube accounts? There are loads of American ones, but I'm more interested in British or Irish people and I'm struggling to find those!

Well done that's his is fantastic! I'm in the same boat as you. Starting weight was 19st 2.5 and I'm down to 18 st 5.5. slow and steady. I recommend following team RH on tik Tok. Some.really.us FiL info on weight loss and sustainability although his methods are somewhat controversial. Take a look.

I lost 50lbs last year, I still can't quite believe it. I did SW which is basically, low carb, low sugar and no UPF. Well done, you're doing so well, it'll soon become normal and just a way of life .

I'm on SW and I've lost 11.5 lbs in five weeks so far. Hoping to lose 50-60lbs this year.

Sounds like you're doing really well OP, I'm struggling along with you trying to get back into all my clothes that no longer fit!

I've started watching LouisesJourney on YouTube, she lost 120lbs and has maintained that for a few years and completely changed her body through diet and exercise. I find her so motivating and honest as well.

I also follow Hasfit on YouTube when I'm in the gym as they have been the only weights workouts that I can actually finish 😁

QuantumQuasar · 26/02/2024 09:41

Quick update from me - it's been a bit mental at the moment as I'm job hunting and interviewing.

I only lost 0.1 lb last week, which was a bit confusing as I hadn't done anything different. But I've lost 1 lb this week, so that's more like it!

SW: 18 st 12 lbs
CW: 17 st 12.7 lbs
Mini GW: 17 st 9 lbs (which will mean I finally have a BMI < 40)
2024 GW: 15 st 2 lbs

Total weight lost so far: 13.3 lbs.

Well done everyone else on how well you're doing. Keep plugging away! And thank you for the recommendations :)
