It's impossible. Low carb/fibre/meat

In a total impossible situation trying to lose weight.

I have PCOS and I know from experience my body only really responds well to going lower carb to lose weight.

BUT I also have IBD so I have to eat low fibre, I can't do lentils/beans (baked beans are ok on occasion) or too much fruit or veg. Ok with limited wholemeal bread etc.

And I have also recently developed an aversion to meat, the thought of eating it makes me feel ill. I am 'ok' with sausages, bacon and mince atm. Also can't eat eggs too often as I get sick of them really easily.

So really, it's totally impossible!

I know right now trying to do 'low carb' is not going to happen and I will end up binging. So I'm just looking for some meal ideas that are going to be better to help me lose weight than eating a bowl of pasta for dinner.

Can anyone recommend any meals that they love?

I am thinking:
Vegetable soups
Sausage, scrambled eggs and mushrooms
Cottage pie with green veg
One slice of wholemeal toast with scrambled egg or baked beans
Chilli
Egg noodle veg stir fry

Any other ideas?

I have PcOS and trying to lose weight too so having to low carb. I'm lucky I guess in that I actually like a routine so have no problem with eating similar meals every day.

I don't do breakfast, never have, I just don't feel like eating in the morning.

Lunch I make a batch of 4 portions of something and eat it everyday till it's gone. Generally this is the same base:

  • 500g 5% fat beef mince
  • 2 red onions
  • can of chopped tomatoes (usually pick one with garlic, herbs or chilli for a bit more flavour)
  • 2 decent sized carrots
  • whole pack of button mushrooms
  • bell pepper
  • whatever flavouring packet I have available - chilli, fajita, shepherds pie

Works out under 250 calories when split into 4.

I find a portion of that enough to see me through to dinner, but if I'm particularly hungry I'll add steamed veg or have a midafternoon under 100 calorie snack.

Dinner is whatever DH makes but instead of the carb element I have green veg, so roasted broccoli with olive oil and garlic, or pan fried asparagus, or greenbeans steamed with a knob of butter and plenty of salt and pepper.

It's working so far, I'm 10lbs down since 1st Jan.

I've added in 2 exercise sessions a week, I go to aqua aerobics. I've also been trying to make sure I drink plenty of water as water is used to break down fat.

I'm lower carbing and am vegetarian. I use a lot of beans as in kidney/black eyed/cannellini types (can't tolerate lentils at all!) and make veggie casseroles/curries/chilli with lots of veg in them. I think having a well stocked food cupboard with lots of spices/herbs helps lift most meals, and things like olives, capers and sun dried tomatoes. Veggie sausages roasted with veg in the oven is lovely - and I do use veggie mince occasionally for bolognese etc. I don't like eggs much but do make the odd tortilla with lots of veg and cheese - then cut into cubes in a box in the fridge so it's an easy snack. Soups are easy at this time of year too - a simple one is oven roasting veg like onion, pepper, mushroom, courgette and butternut squash then blending with veg stock and creme fraiche. I have greek yogurt with berries and purition powder in the morning to keep protein levels up.

I would swap out pork sausages for turkey, chicken or veggie versions. Pork sausages are really high calories and fat, they are not a great processed meat as your source of protein. You don’t mention fish which is far better

When dieting I eat the same foods to keep it easy, so I’d just select a handful of foods that are safe for you and stick to them.

I agree with the idea to switch to chicken/veggie sausages. My lunches this week have mainly been 2 chicken sausages with sautéed garlic mushrooms and spinach, or chopped the sausages up and sautéed with courgette/red onion/cherry tomatoes and some seasoning.

would you have meat balls in a tomato sauce?

I’m low carbing in a less strict way, so I’m just cutting out the major carb groups but not counting what’s in veg etc. for me it’s switching the mindset from ‘oh I’m having meatballs and pasta’ to having the meatballs with tender stem brocolli instead.

Have you considered doing Intermittent fasting?
