Losing weight with limited exercise

Hi I’m desperate to lose weight this year around 4-5 stone i have pcos and suspected ms the latter means I struggle to walk far these days let alone do more intensive exercises. it’s been a hard adjustment and I have gained more weight (though I’m sure I don’t overeat or have a bad enough diet to warrant it 😫medications may not be helping however). I’m aware the vast extra weight is only making my health even worse and making me miserable too. The thought of how far I have to go is so daunting however so think I will be needing relatively fast results initially to keep me on track.

Previous to my more recent health problems I’ve done slimming world but the last time progress was slow pandemic hit and I gave up but I have far more to lose now so I’m looking at weight watchers but welcome any other suggestions. I’ve spoke to my gp but so far they have not been much help.
Can anyone offer advice or share success stories please?

Thank you

I lost 3 stone a decade ago on ww. I was all set on a huge exercise plan but I got injured so could only diet. It was absolutely fine! It's 80% diet.

I'm post dc now and have a bad back injury and have just started ww again. No exercise apart from some light strolls for me. I've lost 6lbs in 2 weeks and am getting used to it. It looks like healthy eating with nutritional food being free, so it doesn't feel too gimmicky, but actually quite sensible.

I was using MFP but it allows me to track too much crap.

I lost 2.5 stone in 3 months 10 years ago. Keto plus intermittent fasting. I broke my foot a week in so this was with zero exercise other then typing and mousing on the computer.

Im on SW and lost 3st so far since mid-May despite having PCOS. This was with minimal exercise as I was awaiting knee surgery which happened in September and resulted in 2 months in a brace and on crutches. I've just re-joined the gym last week to start some exercise again. I can't stick to WW for love nor money but SW I find easy to manage without being hungry.

I lost 5 stone last year and I'm lucky if I do 1000 stepd a day, calorie defecit is the main driver

FreezyFord · 15/01/2024 23:24

Calorie deficit is the way.

use the free James Smith Academy calculator to work out what calories you need to stick to. Log all food, including oil, ketchup, butter, etc on the free my fitness pal app.Stick to it and you’ll lose weight.

walk more, it will get easier as you lose weight.

oh, and look at the fitness chef

Diet is approx 80% anyway, so totally ok to move less but cut calories. Keto, fasting, reduction etc all valid.

You don't need to exercise much to lose weight. It's all about calorie deficit and being consistent over a long period of time. See a dietician, they can help set out a plan for you.

A year ago I weighed four stone more. Through diet and exercise and sheer determination I am now nearly 10 and a half stone. My goal is o 1/2.

i counted calories and wrote down everything I ate. I have also started swimming which makes a difference. I go four times a week and swim for around 50 minutes. It’s difficult, but facing up to your weight is the first step. Good luck.
