How to spice up rice cakes

Trying to eat more healthily and lose some weight. I'm sure I remember a Simpsons episode where Homer piles cheese and bacon on his rice cakes 😂

Without going this far, what are some nice ways to make rice cakes more interesting without piling on the calories?

Today I had them with cream cheese and cucumber; ingredients I love but together with the rice cakes it was the saddest, blandest snack ever.

Nutella. Life's too short for sad little rice cakes.

There’s only so much you can do with a rice cake, it’s never going to taste like toast or a biscuit! However they’re okay with peanut butter and something sweet - jam, honey, banana etc. Or buy salt and vinegar rice cakes, they’re nicer than the plain ones. Or you can buy chocolate covered rice cakes which are okay, but they’re still only okay. I don’t think a rice cake will ever be delicious.

I wish I had the enthusiasm for them that my toddler does. He'll scoff a hundred of them covered in humous.

Nutella idea duly noted.

Tuna mayo! That's a fantastic idea I'd never have thought of

I think they're not actually the healthiest snack as white rice spikes your blood sugar on its own, and if you're going to put cream cheese on it you may as well have that on wholemeal toast instead-- healthier and tastier! I hate rice cakes though so I'm biased!

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 10/01/2024 21:29

I wouldn't eat rice cakes either for the reasons above, wholemeal toast is the way to go.

DuploTrain · 10/01/2024 21:29

The marmite flavoured ones are quite nice.

I also don’t really understand them as a snack, they’re just air.. I think they leave me hungrier than before.

Ditch the rice cakes and get some Nutella on toast 👍🏻 this is my kind of advice 🙌🏻
