How did you feel when you lost weight?

I am looking for a bit of hope and motivation please.

I am 3-4 stone overweight and feel awful. I never have any energy and my body just aches all the time, especially my back. I think this is down to the extra weight - I am only in my early 30s. I have young kids and think my pregnancies have taken their toll on my body too.

I was wondering if anyone has been in a similar situation and then felt much better when they have lost the weight? If you have felt better, in what way?

Thank you

Can I ask as well, I've got a stomach that really sticks out - almost like I'm still pregnant. I have been checked for the ab separation that can sometimes make your stomach stick out - apparently I don't have this. Did anyone have the same with their stomach and did it become flatter when you lost the weight? I'm not expecting to ever have a perfectly flat stomach but would love it to stop sticking out so much!

My stomach will never be flat again. Pregnancies, obesity, aging body. I accept that. But another thing that I have noticed since losing weight is that my lanyard no longer bounces up from my tummy and swings wildly as I walk. Instead it hangs down like anybody else's and moves gently (unless I skip 😄).

I lost 3.5 stone nearly 10 years ago. I have put back on a half a stone but I think that’s just where my weight falls, and it’s too much effort and unrealistic to lose that now (although I do try).

Happier and more confident.
Healthier, even my periods became regular for the first time in my life.
Suddenly loved fashion and shopping.
Full of energy. Sometimes I would even purposely park my car further away from where I needed to park, just to get more steps or because I felt like walking.

The only negative I can think of is my face changed and I looked older. My nose looked bigger. I’ve never been able to enjoy food quite the same since, because I’m always conscious of gaining. But it’s better than being overweight/obese.

Good luck!

Amazing! I've lost 2st 7.5lb. Was slightly more but Xmas. I feel great.

MsJuniper · 10/01/2024 20:07

So much healthier and happier. As others have said, you are also treated with more respect and kindness by others. It actually made me feel sad for my younger self.

Now back at the wrong end of the scales again and need to find that motivation inside myself.

Interested to read all these replies, but wishing everyone put their ages in. By menopause you realise age makes a huge difference! (I’m 49.)

@Ambertonix how did you lose the weight? I’m about to start a Bodyslims course, and hoping to plummet two stone. Size 18-20 just now.

coxesorangepippin · 10/01/2024 20:12

Re. Stomach sticking out after pregnancy

Mine sticks out a bit, I don't have that diactis recris or whatever it's called. However, it's a lot flatter now I've lost weight.

Did you have a Cesarean section, op? I did, and I think the lovely pouch you end up with doesn't make your belly look flatter

We do what we can!!

I’ve lost 2 stone and dropped from a 14 to a 10/12, I was top end of the healthy range before but felt so bloated, uncomfortable, and honestly I was embarrassed, I was starting to shy away from socialising and spent ages obsessing about clothes that would disguise my weight gain.

I now feel physically fresher and lighter, mentally I’m very much happier as it has eliminated so many of my unexpressed negative emotions about myself. I sleep better and my skin is clearer. Overall I’d say the mental benefits for me have been stronger than the physical.

Like a PP I’m now colder, particularly at night.

SarahLHs · 10/01/2024 20:24

Yes I lost 3 stone last year. I can run around after my kids for the first time. It's also so nice to wear what I like rather than always be in black shapeless clothes to try and hide my figure.

Just take it slowly and don't give up if you have days/weeks where you don't lose. When I've tried to lose weight before if I had a bad day it would turn into a bad week and that's the main thing I changed this time, straight back on it the next day. Good luck!

AngelicaJaneJones · 10/01/2024 20:29

I am four stone overweight and would really LOVE to lose it. I just cannot motivate myself. I start off well and after a week or two I just fold. I don’t eat rubbish at all. Don’t drink fizzy drinks or eat sugar. I just eat too much I guess and don’t move enough. Please give me your tips for how you did it!!

AngelicaJaneJones · 10/01/2024 20:30

I lost two stone two years ago and felt SO much better. I’ve put it back on plus an extra two stone.

Woaluka · 10/01/2024 20:34

I lost 5 stone last year and I’m now at the top end of the healthy bracket but I want to lose another stone-ish. I feel tons better, I’m lighter and bouncier, people are nicer, I feel attractive (in clothes).
I do get a lot colder and also I still hate my body, I analyse my stomach and arms and back fat etc. I’ve started weight training alongside cardio so I’m hoping I can get the stone off and build my muscle/lose fat. Trouble is you can’t target fat loss so I can lose it eg from my face and look gaunt but my stomach is still large.
Good luck, you can do it!

Tailfeather · 10/01/2024 20:35

I started Wegovy at the end of October and have lost almost 2 stone. I have another 2 to go, but feel energised and less bloated and uncomfortable, my face is more defined, clothes fit better, I have more energy with my son and feel more confident and happy to be in photos etc

mynameiscalypso · 10/01/2024 20:40

I'm a size 8 (was a 16). I still have a flabby tummy which I'm not sure will ever go. I blame DS 100%.

FatherJoseFernandez · 10/01/2024 20:42

I lost just under 2 stone last year and felt amazing. My feet and knees didn’t ache and my jeans were comfy with a little extra room. I have gained about 7-10lbs back (estimated- not brave enough to weigh in post Christmas yet!!) I wanted to lose 2 & 1/2 stone in total so still a way to go now but I’m starting next week after my birthday on Sunday. Following for motivation!!

Slavetomycat · 10/01/2024 20:49

I've lost 4.6 stone over there last three years. Slow and steady. I walk at least 6 miles throughout the day, in short bursts. I have also done 16/8 intermittent fasting for the most part. I eat a healthy diet but don't restrict sweets or calorie count as long as I stick to my window.

I feel and look like a new person. Well, like the person I used to be. I went from 201 lbs to 146. It's actually amazing to think I am this size. It's still always a bit unreal to me. Cost a fortune in new wardrobe but worth it.

Littletinytarzanswingingfromanosehair · 10/01/2024 21:00

4stone and I felt on top of the world and finally in control.
At the same time I still shopped for size 16 when I was now 10-12.

It made it all worth it. To me, I now think nothing tastes as good as slim feels or how I feel fitting in a dress I've been admiring.

I still have treats every other day but I exercise daily, my energy and joint pain has disappeared and im no longer out of breath just walking up and down the stairs.

You know your body appreciates the hard work you have put in when you eat junk food and it make you feel sluggish and groggy. I never felt like that when I was overweight.

Projectme · 10/01/2024 21:09

@Dreamstosell thanks for the link.
Still can't see how to do it on my phone tho! 🙄

Littletinytarzanswingingfromanosehair · 10/01/2024 21:10

Oh and I didn't tell colleagues or friends I was on a diet, it took the pressure off!

I'm 205lbs and want to be 140lbs! Seems so daunting but I need to do something! I'm 53 and menopausal. It's become SO hard to lose weight. I've been reading up about fasting and was thinking of giving it a go, I tried it for 2 weeks before Xmas and I felt so much better and lost 3lbs.

Plumtop11 · 10/01/2024 21:14

After my last SC was born I was really motivated by the fact I knew I wouldn't get pregnant again and I wanted to feel like me again. Currently smaller than o was before kids as I think now I don't take my metabolism for granted as it's not as easy to shift. Before kids I would constantly yo yo and my weight is now pretty much consistent

BarelyLiterate · 10/01/2024 21:15

I lost 33 kg in just under a year. Of course I look & feel better for it, but it hasn’t been a ‘night & day’ transformation. I’m tall & quite strong, not small & dainty and I was also fairly active even when I was at my fattest, so although walking up hills is easier now I could still do it before. It’s a great feeling when people complement me on my weight loss, too.

I have a wardrobe full of clothes which no longer fit me, which is a nice problem to have, obviously.

The biggest difference, though, is that I am now much less anxious about my health. Being clinically obese really isn’t good for you at all, and maintaining a healthy weight gives me great peace of mind. Believe me, if I can lose a significant amount of weight, anyone can. I love my food, wine & beer and I’m not going to pretend that giving up booze, puddings, cheese etc was easy. But it’s definitely doable.

Ginandjuice57884 · 10/01/2024 21:18

I felt better because clothes fitted better. Sort of. But tbh I don't look better. My ribs show, my thighs are still larger than "average" (by which I mean off the rack clothes still fit me poorly), I still have terrible cellulite, and I've developed a chronic illness (unrelated to weight loss) so physically feel awful. Also cold all the time and having bony bits is uncomfortable. Considering if it's actually really that healthy.

surreygirl1987 · 10/01/2024 21:20

Awww this is so lovely. Great motivation!

OptimisticPrime · 10/01/2024 21:44

I’ve lost 2 stone since August, need another 2-3 off but am back in the mindset after a break from Xmas eve to new year. Feeling amazing, dropped two dress sizes. Still more to go. I’m fitter, more energy, don’t groan getting up. Knees don’t sound like packs of crisps any more. I’m loving clothes again.

I got a virtual PT for 3 months. But I eat more protein, and more veg. Few carbs (oats rice or sweet potatoes mainly), fats ok, olive oil, Greek yogurt. Some fruit (blueberries, raspberries, tomatoes, occasional banana). No refined sugar, just a little honey.

Far more water and steps/activity.

My stomach has shrunk., I eat less, don’t feel hungry very often. Obsess about food less, in fact I don’t really think about it now. I can resist chocolate, sweets etc because have cut out sugar.

go for it!

OptimisticPrime · 10/01/2024 21:50

oops. Edited for spelling and forgot to add I’m 48
