How did you feel when you lost weight?

I am looking for a bit of hope and motivation please.

I am 3-4 stone overweight and feel awful. I never have any energy and my body just aches all the time, especially my back. I think this is down to the extra weight - I am only in my early 30s. I have young kids and think my pregnancies have taken their toll on my body too.

I was wondering if anyone has been in a similar situation and then felt much better when they have lost the weight? If you have felt better, in what way?

Thank you

Amazing. Literally like a different person. And everyone treated me like a different person too, which was weird. I was genuinely more popular thin than fat.

Definitely lose weight if you can. It will change so much more than just your clothes size.

BeachedOff · 09/01/2024 14:32

That is so good to hear @ConciseQueen thank you!

AMAZING. I lost 6.5 stone and the difference was astonishing. I had more energy, I slept better, I was happier, my skin was better, I was more sociable, I was treated better by friends and strangers, I achieved better at work… I’ve put about a stone and a half back on so I’m back to strict eating again because I have noticed a big difference. Losing weight is the best thing I’ve ever done for myself and I only wish I did it years ago. It was worth every single iota of effort.

peachgreen · 09/01/2024 14:34

Oh and yes, no more back pain! I was very lucky that my weight never really impacted my health, but even with that, I still feel so much better having lost it.

MattDamon · 09/01/2024 15:12

I lost 5 stone a while back. Aches and pains all disappeared. Much more energy. I feel nimble in my movements instead of heavy and clunky. Exercise is fun instead of punishment.

The best thing is that you'll probably feel significantly better after losing the first two stone.

BeachedOff · 09/01/2024 15:55

This is exactly what I wanted to hear, thank you - it does give me hope and I am glad it has helped you all to feel better in yourselves. I think it is a huge achievement to lose weight, I find it really hard to keep going with it.

I lost 2 stone and felt wonderful. My clothes looked better, I looked better and I had more energy and less strain on my knees.

peachgreen · 09/01/2024 15:57

It is hard but it becomes addictive, in my experience – it stops feeling like hard work and starts feeling really good. So much harder to restart after having time off though, I won’t make that mistake again.

DollyDan · 09/01/2024 16:01

Like I am a different person! I lost 4 and half stone and it’s changed my life, new confidence, feel healthier, no more heartburn! Definitely helped with my bad back and I sleep so much better, I don’t know why I didn’t do it years ago
don’t get me wrong it was difficult to change my ingrained habits, but I followed Noom and it changed the way I think and was easy after that!

Just commenting here to save this thread! I'm starting (yet another) new years plan to lose weight that has crept on over the last few years. I have about a stone/stone and a half to lose and want to be reminded of the benefits when my resolve wavers! Hoping to find improvements in confidence, back and join pain, energy levels and not have to buy new clothes! Well done to all who have succeeded and good luck OP!

Eggless · 09/01/2024 16:27

Yes, after only one stone. I was at the top of the healthy range and lost a stone basically for cosmetic reasons I'm not gonna lie. But it made me feel so much fitter and lighter. I know obviously I was lighter 😆 But I felt all springy like I had more energy just because it took less energy to make me move I suppose. Running/jumping/rolling on the floor with the kids - all so much easier. And this was after only one stone. Do it OP! It's so worth it.

BeachedOff · 09/01/2024 18:43

It's nice to know that you can feel a big difference losing 1-2 stone too!

3 stone so far I also feel amazing. My skin is the best it’s ever looked I actually am shocked by how much it has changed my face it’s brighter and more even toned. I have so much more energy and no bad back

TeenDivided · 10/01/2024 10:45

I have lost a bit over 3 stones so far.
I have more energy, I can walk faster, and have gone down a size in clothes.

Mainly though I feel happier and less stressed now I am doing something to help lower my blood pressure, prevent myself from getting diabetes and hopefully have a healthier retirement.

Ambertonix · 10/01/2024 12:26

Four and a half stone loss here and my main take-away is that i just feel 'normal' now. I dont feel embarrassed when walking in town or eating in a restaurant. I dont feel like everyone is looking at me and judging me anymore (im sure they werent then either but i was very, very self concious) I have gone from a size 20 to a 14 so not tiny. I am now 10 stone and ideally i would like to lose another stone. Excercise is so much easier now. I have a treadmill so make sure i walk for at least two 30 minute sessions a day, 3 if i can fit it in and i just feel so much better about myself. Im 51 now and i wish i had done it years ago instead of gaining and losing the same 2 stone over and over again. Good luck OP.

Movinghouseatlast · 10/01/2024 12:31

I had terrible loser back pain, it stopped me doing so much. I've lost 2.5 stone and it has totally gone.

Anjea · 10/01/2024 13:04

I'm on wegovy and loving my transforming self. I feel brighter and lighter and my face is starting to look pretty again Blush

Projectme · 10/01/2024 17:33

OP there was a lovely thread like this in AIBU (guess the OP wanted more traffic). It was called "unexpected or unusual advantages of weight loss."

Sorry I don't know how to share a link! I've tried looking but can't see how to do it on my phone.

That thread was really lovely and motivating so perhaps have a nosy at that.

tobee · 10/01/2024 18:33

I lost nearly two stone in lockdown. It made me less anxious about getting type 2 diabetes in the nearer future.

And I looked better; all my clothes fit better.

Femalefootyfan · 10/01/2024 18:35

I lost almost 3 stone (I’ve put about 3-4lbs back on) and went from a small size 14 to an 8, it took me around 9 months.
I feel so much healthier, I look so much better and my clothes, obviously had to buy everything new apart from socks, look great. I no longer have the back issues that I had, I can walk 4/5 miles a day without stopping to take a breath, I feel amazing, go for it OP!

BeachedOff · 10/01/2024 19:14

Can't thank you enough for all these lovely positive comments, they have been so amazing to read - I feel inspired by all of your weight loss wins. There were a few moments today where I thought of these comments and made a healthier choice.

Also, thanks for the extra thread of motivation too - will take a look now!

Can I ask as well, I've got a stomach that really sticks out - almost like I'm still pregnant. I have been checked for the ab separation that can sometimes make your stomach stick out - apparently I don't have this. Did anyone have the same with their stomach and did it become flatter when you lost the weight? I'm not expecting to ever have a perfectly flat stomach but would love it to stop sticking out so much!

I keep thinking that I feel no different on the inside - but then this week I found myself skipping down a corridor with a child. Last summer I could not skip; there was no bounce in my legs. 2 stone down made more difference than just a couple of dress sizes.
